      There are quite a few! Ranch riding, ranch trail and ranch rail or working western rail are quite common. Different associations have different names and classes so you might also see ranch pleasure or versatility ranch, ranch conformation etc.

    Unfortunately, I think the high cost of being “competitive” in any equine discipline will soon start a decline in the industry. Having 100 exhibitors at a show with $10,000 horses is a far better scenario than having 25 exhibitors at a show with $50,000 horses.

    • @hayescofell1944
      @hayescofell1944 Рік тому

      Hey Katrina! What is the goal of the lungeing? How to respond when he’s lazy is dependent on what the goal is. The live session was more focussed on fresh horses and getting them ready to focus. Is this a young horse?

    • @stronginthesaddle
      @stronginthesaddle Рік тому

      @@hayescofell1944 He's coming 4 with a really good start (reining foundation). He knows how to lunge, but he's just that classic laid back gelding. I've been lunging him a bit just to get some movement in. I haven't been able to ride much over the winter and I gradually want to bring him back into condition.

    • @hayescofell1944
      @hayescofell1944 Рік тому

      @@stronginthesaddle ok, riding is better than lungeing to get him back in shape but if you are lungeing and need more forward - touch whip! Make sure you do it on the fleshy part of the hip and then done keep chasing him with your body, just touch whip again when he slows on his own.

    Is it possible to cut the saddle skirt length shorter? I know there are the “it’s probably not worth it just get a new / different saddle” for the real world, but for curiosity / interest sake, could a saddle like the one you spoke of, where the skirt is a ridiculous length behind the seat, be cut in theory? I know the aesthetic etc. is a factor but just from like a do-able standpoint and how would that affect the saddles ability to be ridden in, is it something that could be done without ruining the integrity of the tree?

    Great info in this video! I wish I would have seen this about three weeks ago! I bought a saddle as part of a package deal with my horse and I think I kind of lucked out. It fits him and I both great. I come from a barrel racing background and now, as I move into reining, I'm amazed at how restricted I was in my barrel saddle. Having a flat saddle that is bigger with a slick seat is so much better. I am actually able to move with my horse.

    Thank you both for your regular UA-cam videos and particularly for raising this topic - I’ve just returned from the Tulsa Reining Classic and this new rule change makes things even more discouraging for me as a weekend rider nonpro .. it’s hard enough competing w/ trainers’ spouses and kids (😀) who declare as non pros and now to think that their obtaining sponsorships will make it even more difficult for us to be competitive - am now not particularly motivated to spend derby type entry fees for larger shows - the sport will lose grassroots type nonpros in my view.
