A Story of History by Arnold J. Toynbee (Chapter 5 : The Disintegrations of Civilizations) - Part 2
Toynbee argues that civilizations arise in response to challenges, leading to periods of growth and creativity. However, he argues that internal weaknesses, such as the rise of dominant elites and the decline of religious and moral vitality, eventually lead to stagnation and decline. Toynbee draws on numerous historical examples to support his theory, examining civilizations from ancient Mesopotamia to modern Western society.
In this abridged version, Somervell effectively captures the essence of Toynbee's vast and complex work, making it accessible to a wider audience. The book explores key concepts such as the "challenge and response" mechanism, the role of religion and philosophy in shaping civilizations, and the impact of contact between different cultures. Toynbee's insights into the dynamics of historical change, while sometimes controversial, continue to resonate with readers today.
The book contains five major chapter:
1. Introduction
- Part 1 (The Unit of Historical Study)
- Part 2 (The Comparative Study of Civilizations)
- Part 3 (The Comparability of Societies)
2. The Geneses of Civilizations
- Part 1 (The Problem and How Not to Solve it)
- Part 2 (Challenge and Response)
- Part 3 (The Virtues of Adversity)
- Part 4 (The Challenge of the Environment)
- Part 5 (The Golden Mean)
3. The Growths of Civilizations
- Part 1 (The Arrested Civilizations)
- Part 2 (The Nature of the Growths of Civilizations)
- Part 3 (An Analysis of Growth)
- Part 4 (Differentiation Through Growth)
4. The Breakdown of Civilizations
- Part 1 (The Nature of the Problem)
- Part 2 (Deterministic Solutions)
- Part 3 (Loss of Command Over the Environment)
- Part 4 (Failure of Self-Determination)
5. The Disintegrations of Civilizations
- Part 1 (The Nature of Disintegration)

A few days ago I found a bag that was almost the same design as my dream bag, but the price blew my mind. I have a soul resonance with kislux . It taught me that beauty doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to be right.

I'd rather buy a $300 knockoff of a kislux and have $3000 in the bank. At the end of the day it's just a bag and will wear out like any other bag. The cost of the raw materials isn't that high. The real question is, how much do you value the authenticity?

The AI narration speaks the words with no proper inflection, no understanding of the import of what is being read. It is literally a waste of time and a shameful disuse of literature

For a long time, as Chanel prices have risen, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I would be happy to have a kislux as a travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one would have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.

When I choose a bag I always look for practicality, it needs to match the majority of my wardrobe and be able to hold my essentials, and the kislux delivers just that.

Halfway through and so far your history's lies haven't been any different than what I've been aware of most of my life, I'm 73. So where's the lies I was expecting......I think also this would actually be interesting if you didn't spend 6 hours repeating 60 minutes of information.

I saved up money for a few months to buy a ZP, but it got scratched on the third day. I cried so much, and then my boyfriend bought me a bag from kislux for me to carry alternately. Anyway, there are so many bags on the street, so as long as others can't see it, I think it's fine. The thought is there.

I love a good knockoff kislux because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing. That’s the part. That’s it. I feel like people discriminate against knockoffs, but for me, I’ll pause when buying a trendy big-ticket item or when I feel the over-consumption frenzy is coming for me.

The main problem for me is that the quality is so bad nowadays. The quality is much better and the prices are much lower in kislux small boutiques. There is just no marketing. When I was a little girl the luxury goods were much better than the cheaper brands.

The religious word atheist was created by our species in the 1570s. After the female egg chooses the swimmer the growing baby starts receiving messages through the womb from their birth mother's EMOTIONS and knows her mental state of mind IN that PROCESS and we ALL had those experiences without having a BELIEF in those experiences while growing in our first classsroom the WOMB and without having a BELIEF in God / diety or a religion we all had those experiences for nearly a year while growing in the womb.
