Thanks Mike... probably a sense of relief that myself and this stubborn yoke were back on talking terms. We'd come close to blows in preceding weeks...

Preston tuners... not the easiest to work with - a threaded bolt with a hook attached for the string (looped) to be attached to. The strings are looped at both ends so a special tool has to be sourced to add the loop to the string. I can see how they went out of fashion about three hundred years ago...

Hi Devin - I came across one of your vids a few months ago and gave you a like - keep up the good work. I'd be useless as a tutor for bouzouki - I play entirely by ear, but there are people out there on UA-cam doing tutorials etc. The bouzouki in Irish trad music is largely, though not exclusively, seen as an instrument for accompaniment with melody instruments such as fiddle, flute, pipes etc. I enjoy using it as a melody instrument in itself - the ADAD open tuning (or DAD in this vid as it's a six string zouk) allows use of open strings with sympathetic notes - sort of half chords - or couplets. Delighted you liked this.

Thanks Mike... not exactly slick - but I was considering re-recording from scratch this morning - and decided it wasn't completely woeful. It's a beautiful and simple melody - and rather than start all over again I decided any new effort was not going to be any major advance on this rough recording...

Thank you very much for the comments - and yes, I've fallen in love with the shruti box. The 'wooden synthesiser' I call it. I got it in from India during the Covid period - works nice with the bouzouki which is already heavy on drone, especially with the ADAD tuning I use. Good luck with your bouzouki purchase - I'm sure you'll enjoy playing it.
