Today we are talking about the 1976 film Burnt Offerings and how it impacted horror in its time and why it should be remembered today. Thank you so much for watching. Patreon: www.patreon.com/praiseofshadows
Jesus christ dude, not only did you screw up by attacking Wendigoon to start with... You then screwed up by being like a cry-bully, "Oh woe is me... I made an ass of myself and then people rightfully shat all over me, poor me"... After the copium wore off, you then decided to attempt a phony non-apology... And you couldn't even do that right! All you had to do was say "Look guys, I fucked up, I called people horrible things, made ignorant personal attacks, and made a really horrible accusation. I apologize my actions and from this point on I will work to earn your forgiveness yada yada yada"... But you couldn't do that because that'd require you to even pretend to take responsibility for your actions
Now that the air's clear and the sides have forgiven each other, I can watch all parties guilt free again. Particularly your channel, as I believe you make very nice content. I'm enjoying the shorter and more concise content on this channel, and I think it's a fun direction to go in. Best of luck, and I'm interested to see how your career goes now.
The correct del Toro Top 3 💪
"nobody was harmed at all" so publicly calling people racists until proven otherwise isnt even a little damaging in this society? Gtfoh.
Eww it's back your lucky wedigoons a far better man than you or I for that matter.it would have been better if you never reared your head on any social media platform again
I always love a time piece, but I just wish this film had more budget to explore areas that could’ve been expanded on. Once again always love a surprise video from you!
Starting a new channel won’t save you from your absolute brain dead and pathetic thoughts.
Hell yeah
Nice to see you man. You did nothing wrong imo.
Love your vids bro keep it up
I can’t wait to see this!
Love to see you highlighting new horror films coming out, especially small ones like this that I don't think I would've heard of otherwise.
lol had to create a second channel for a "fresh start". It don't work like that, Amigo. the only way youre getting out of this is if you publicly apologize to the man you brazenly said should be shunned from society purely because he votes Elephant and you vote Donkey. till then, enjoy this dislike and goodluck with rent!
"Also, in the name of Appalachians coming together after the hurricane, I want it to be known that In Praise of Shadows reached out to me & apologized. I believe him to be genuine and fully accept his apology. We’re both Christians from the mountains & that’s all that matters." - Wendigoon, 08/11/24
Saw this one last night. Thought it was mostly a snooze fest (and I'm usually the drawn out suspense guy), and the ending was laughably bad. I'm glad I saw it---it was fun to start the year off as early as the 3rd---but I wouldn't recommend it. I will say though, sound design was epic. Best stings I've heard in years.
Would LOVE to see more of this, especially of smaller films that won’t get attention. I noticed this film was coming out yesterday, saw you’d reviewed it and was really grateful.
I realy enjoy the shorter videos you put on this channel.
Hadn't heard of this one. I like videos like this.
If you want to see more Draugr monster movies there’s a Viking dark fantasy one simply called Draug. It’s very good. Would recommend as a watch and as a Darksides
i hope you do more reviews like this, would've loved to see your opinions on Nosferatu.
Nosferatu will absolutely have a big section dedicated to it in my eventual Dracula video down the line
@@IPOSDarksidesit has three films now, an occultist for a production designer, a fictionalised version of the shooting directed by Elias Merhige/produced by Nic Cage and Orlok is in SpongeBob. How does that not qualify for a franchise analysis? Like the Carrie one since it’s the same story told three times, plus the first vampire film ever, plus all the weird stuff
It definitely could qualify if I wasn't already doing Dracula! And it would be a fun idea for sure. It is a weird problem I often have where movies will overlap with different video topics and I have to decide which one will go where and how I want to cover them when the time comes.
@IPOSDarksides since Dracula would be so long and you’d probably want all the space you can get for as much coverage as possible into other films, you could do a smaller Nosferatu franchise analysis a year before Dracula as a test/practice for the big vamp himself.
Solid takes. Agree with you on the music.
Almost every time you post I have a new movie to put on my watchlist ✨ I'll have to come back to this once I see the movie myself.
I never could put my finger on it, but you absolutely nail it. Crimson Peak is the best adaptation of a survival horror game that never existed.
I am so thankful you covered this. This is one of my favorite films. Williams' performance is incredible and he makes One Hour Photo one of the "scariest" films I've ever seen. Making us empathize with a man who either became a monster or who never wanted to admit he was always a monster is a rare and incredibly powerful talent. The only complaint I do have is that the film was ever changed. As a victim of CSA Williams performance has always brought upon a feeling of profound disquiet and, when learning what he was actually playing toward, you can see the traces of that abuse in virtually every scene, every mannerism. It completely changes the entire read of the movie for me. In the real world male victims of childhood abuse barely matter to the world at large and are treated as if their experience should never be brought up or discussed. It is perhaps worse once they have grown up into adults, still carrying that trauma into every aspect of their lives due to their years of forced silence and trying to adhere to some harmful standard of men never showing emotion or weakness. So much of that can be seen in this performance, but the powers that be in Hollywood still found a way to sweep male victims under the rug to not be discussed. If you really think about honest depictions of adult male victims of CSA depicted on film you must be thinking of a very small list.
I really love this, I get more of one of my favorite Burke County natives while learning about movies I might not have otherwise. I still have yet to see Nosferatu, but follow Eggers so knew about the film. I wouldn't have heard of this until I ran across someone else's review or saw it on a torrent site. I think "day of" new reviews are amazing. That does put you ahead of almost any channel I come across on a regular basis, which is great exposure. Then cover the bajillion films in the back catalogue you'd love to say something about but not maybe 1 hour+ worth of conversation. I'd love to hear about what you are reading as well, be it comics or novels. Why not talk about the occasional new album that released you can't stop playing. Movies are fantastic subject matter for the channel, as you always seem to have well thought out observations and insights that are worthwhile to listen to. Every once in a while breaking that up with a book or a record that you just can't keep quiet about would be really welcome as well, for me anyway.
Damn brother, wild hot drop. Did you like catch a morning matinée and start drafting this on your way home?!
lol no I saw the movie last night and wrote the review when I got home before I went to sleep, then got up and recorded/edited it before posting it
@@IPOSDarksides What an absolute hero.
Hiya! Hope you enjoyed the holidays. 💙 I would honestly love day 1 horror movie reviews, been watching you for years at this point, and I trust your opinion as we have very similar tastes. As a side note, your videos have brought me so much joy and I recommend you to all my friends, keep up the good work. (Your John Waters video was one of your best imho).
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
I'm really enjoying the content on this channel so far, but I do have a criticism that I hope is constructive. You do a good job at touching on many various apects of a work in a really concise way, but I feel like you often don't spend enough time discussing the themes of something, or you do so in a vague and indirect way. For example in this video you bring up the idea that the movie explores the grief of doing what you need to survive, but I don't get a feel of your perspective on how that theme is conveyed in the film. I think that just a couple of sentances on an interesting example of how the movie expresses a theme, for instance, would make your thematic analysis more interesting than just pointing out the existence of an idea in a work.
Thanks for the feedback! I can work on that, I've been trying hard to keep these short because I know I can go on for a long time if I allow myself to do so lol but knowing that that is a weaker aspect of these shorter videos I can work on expressing those concepts more in the future with them
Hell yeah, I'll watch more of these
I enjoyed this and like reviews of new things but I also don't go to the theater much to watch films so I end up getting excited about them from reviews and then forgetting when they hit store shelves and end up never watching them... Perhaps a good middle ground would be doing decent films that recently released on blu-ray or streaming services so those of us who avoid the theater could go out and watch the thing right away? Side note I was looking for something to watch yesterday and was on both your channels looking for fresh content, was happy to see the upload when I sat down to lunch today!
I'm usually a couple years behind whatever the hottest new films are cause i got a long backlog and cinema tickets are expensive so I personally prefer Darksides focused on anything but new just so I'm not getting FOMO. Not relevant but I just so happened to rewatch the Crimewave video earlier. Did you know the lead actor left a comment praising it?
Oh I wasn't aware of that! Thank you for letting me know I'll go check it out
@@IPOSDarksides np it’s like the highest liked comment so should be easy to find
I like this would love to see your thoughts on more recent movies as they come out 👏🏼
Super excited for this review! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new Nosferatu, as well.
I'm kinda split on new release reviews tbh. On one hand it would probably be great to engage with new releases to promote channel growth especially with anything big that's likely to get algorithm attention. On the other, there's a massive list of old stuff to cover which I feel a bit selfish for wanting more coverage over things that I wouldn't be as connected to. Maybe just reserve these for big releases and anything that resonates very strongly to you? Also Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year to you as well! And that's totally fair, doing these also hopefully won't interfere with the normal release schedule. They will just be little bonuses every now and then, I'll still have the normal Darksides every Wednesday like normal. There will be a regular one on an older film this coming week and on weeks I do a new review there will just be two of them that week. But if it become too much I'll probably stick to doing them sparingly
Happy New Year 🎊🎉
Thanks, same to you! Hope it is a good one
You did this review the same day you watched it? That's incredible! It would also be interesting to know if your opinions on these movies change over the year too, letting them settle in more. I've seen a lot of movies that I didn't like or outright hated at first, but a few months later after thinking about them again I realized I liked them more than I first thought, they just weren't what I was hoping/expecting them to be at first and was put off.
I watched it last night and wrote the review but then woke up and made the video today before posting it. And same! Often my views shift on things as time goes on. There's been a few times where I've considered revisiting a film in a second video that I was once maybe a little harsh on. Hellraiser 3 is one of those which I used to not like but have learned to really love since I made that project back then.
Nice intro!
FYI, Brits going to Iceland to do commercial fishing is a whole crazy thing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_Wars
Reading about this now, that is interesting thank you! I wish the movie had included a little information about all of that because without context it feels a bit strange as to why they are there.
6:55 , I would personally love that
I'm a simple girl, I see IPOS post I click immediately :3 your videos are an absolute JOY to watch, and you are my favorite content creator on this site bar none <3
Never heard an actually apology, just 18 minutes of blaming life and everyone else aside from the fact you made false criminal claims about people for social media clout. It remains embarrassing to hear and every “follower” needs to think long and hard about ever interacting with Zane ever again
Would you go on the Unsub podcast if you were invited?
You're not welcome in this space, Zane.
You're not welcome in this space, Zane. You attacked people over arbitrary lies and claiming you have a black friend (editor wearing a maga hat) doesn't change what you did. Your sexuality isn't an excuse for your attitude. It wasn't pretty bad, it was as bad as shit can get. You spread false rape accusations, false accusations of terrorism and murder, etc just as you were complaining about people spreading lies about you. You could not say worse things about people than what you said and you don't deserve forgiveness.
Gotta give props to u at least u touching grass
I cant even find your main channel when I type it in. I expect the same for this one soon
Yall are pathetic, still going at it.

Stop talking. Im serious, just stop talking. Stop making videos, stop posting online, stop sharing your views. You have 0 right to air out any thoughts you have online after what you've done.
You are definitely the guy that loves the sound of his own voice. You need to start listening and really thinking about your crap.
IPOS has a reputation for grooming minors. I'm surprised he's still allowed to have an account.
In Praise of Shadows has a long history of inappropriate interactions with minors. Im surprised he is still allowed a platform.
Lmfao, yall are pathetic really.
