The Pacific Northwest: A lecture by Evan Weiner
Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver: The Pacific Northwest or the Pacific Southwest? The three cities were products of the gold rushes and opium trading and grew after differences were solved in a disputed territory that both America and Great Britain wanted. America wanted all the territory on the Pacific. Seattle and Vancouver both were destroyed by fires.

Isn’t Joan Baum marvelous? Informed, articulate, precise and present, she clarifies the nuanced with aplomb. Brava!
Hmmm.
Good old days best job ever! Out of West Islip
I agree, Christine Haag is classy, beautiful, nice, mature. After reading about Carolyn Bissette, she was on Cocaine, fought openly with JFK Jr, seemed to have bad attitude. She did not interact with the media. They were having marriage issues. Christina Haag much better fit for JFK Jr. Sad it was not meant to be, fate.
very nice!
My ancestry has many ties to Long Island. One end was the Hampton's with the Lyon Gardiner who's Grand Daughter marries a Mulford and the other end of Long Island with the Dutch where The Vandervorts were early settlers. I really appreciated this video and history of the Gardiner Family. New Netherlands in 1624, the Gardiner's in 1639. Keep up the good work
I am also a descendant of Lion Gardiner. His daughter Elizabeth is the mother of my grandmother , his granddaughter Elizabeth Howell, married Jacobus Loper who I’m a descendant of
David Blight is great - kudos to you for inviting him.

Dear Ms. Leonnig and Mr. Rucker, I've just concluded reading A Very Stable Genius. It's impressive in a very dark way. I appreciate the compelling narrative and wealth of evidence that you present regarding Mr. Trump's conduct as president. I have several suggestions regarding how to make your next edition of this important book tighter: First, you use the word "nonplussed" in exactly the opposite way that's correct. Many people do so because the word just looks like it means unfazed, indifferent. In fact, it means astonished. On page 28, you say that Trump was "largely nonplussed" when his lawyer, Don McGahn, went into the Oval Office to inform him that the FBI had interviewed Michael Flynn in the White House. You say that Trump "expressed no concern about" Flynn's having lied to Pence, and that he just asked rhetorically why the feds were already questioning "our guy." There's nothing in that summary to suggest that Trump had erupted into one of his notorious rages. In fact, the opposite is true. Later, on pages 67-8, you say that Bob Mueller "had a taciturn and nonplussed demeanor." Of course, it's hard to think of any public figure more opposite to having a "nonplussed" demeanor than Mueller. I was surprised that no one reading your manuscript, no editor or journalist friend, pointed out to you that you use "nonplussed" precisely to mean its opposite. Another point involves your discussion of Trump's role in reading an excerpt from the Constitution for a documentary called The Words That Built America. You refer to "the treasured documents that have united the nation for more than two centuries." (39) But, in fact, the Constitution did not unite the nation in the 1850s and 60s, nor during the Civil Rights era, the 2015-16 campaign, or as regards abortion since Roe v. Wade. I know you're well aware of that. Additionally, on page 4, in your prologue, you write that Trump "stepped into the presidency so certain that his knowledge was the most complete and his facts supreme ..." Most commentators assert that he "believes" this or that, without seeming to consider the fact that, as a textbook example of a psychopath, he regards actual beliefs, facts, and knowledge as entirely irrelevant. It is highly unlikely that he is not completely aware that he has little to no knowledge of much of anything outside of real estate development, running a reality show, and manipulating other people. In fact, at a late point in your book, you include an unusual admission by Trump that he's completely unprepared and just wings it all the time. He knows that he does not read any books or even magazine articles. He knows that he didn't read the daily briefs from his cabinet officers and military experts. He knows that he's a supreme bullshitter who has gotten amazingly far because of his father's money and his own boundless drive and egotism. On a simpler level, he knows that one of his chief attributes is to say whatever he thinks will advance his interests at any given moment, and that actual truth is almost always an obstruction to his goals. Does anyone really believe, when this malignant narcissist has endlessly claimed that he knows x subject (which he's never studied) better than anyone else on the planet, that he actually believes his own claim? As many have pointed out, Trump is a consummate con artist, the quintessence of the ugliest kind of blowhard for whom bombast is the fuel on which his engine runs. In other words, he is a psychopath, though few in the media have addressed this fact head-on, and it seems to me that no analysis of the man is worthwhile if this core fact is not highlighted. At the bottom of page 91, in discussing Trump's considering Reid Weingarten as an attorney, you write: "After all, the president believed he hadn't committed any crimes." Again, we do not know what he actually believed about his own guilt. We only know what he claimed, and you provide so much evidence of his terminal mendacity, his criminality, and the fact that he knew for sure that he'd committed crimes and was simply employing the oldest trick in the book: Deny everything. Furthermore, the quotation you use from him right after this contradicts your assertion that he "believed" he'd committed no crimes: He concludes a conversation with Weingarten by saying: "If I smell trouble, when I smell the jail cell, I'll call you." A person convinced of his innocence does not speak thus. On page 133, you refer to the "Korea" (sic) peninsula. Of course, it's the "Korean" peninsula. Any writer can make such a mistake, but Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post journalists publishing a book should have the resources to fix such mistakes before they get into print, just as you do with the daily paper. On 134, you discuss Trump's ranting to General Mattis about NATO allies not spending enough on their national defense. Mattis tries to enlighten Trump about the great value of the alliance, and why his aggressive stance was counter-productive, yet you write that "Mattis wasn't trying to convince the president of anything." That makes no sense, and you must know that, since, just a few lines later, you write: "More broadly, Mattis argued that ..." Again, this is the type of thing that any good reader/editor/fellow journalist should have pointed out as a weak passage which could easily have been fixed. On page 195, you refer to a certain "Goodlatte" whom you never before refer to in the book, and who is not listed in your Index. Who is he or she? What happened there? On the top of 238, you write that FBI agents "had significant evidence to suspect that (Michael) Cohen had engaged in three kinds of federal crimes ..." The "to suspect" there is entirely extraneous. If anything should replace it, "to conclude" is far better, though a deletion of that phrase is best. The sentence is far stronger there, and, anyway, "evidence to suspect that" is a strange phrase. On 247, the paragraph in the middle of the page that begins with "We have a lot of work to do ..." ends with a question mark after "documents," but that sentence is a statement, not a question. On 290, near the top, you write: "On September 5, Trump become (sic) irate when ..." Obviously, "became" is needed there. On 406, you write that "the Trump lawyers firmly believed that their client was innocent." How on Earth do you know what each of them actually believed? You don't. All we know is that they were doing their job by insisting that Trump was not guilty. On 416, you write that Trump was exactly the kind of dangerous demagogue that Alexander Hamilton had in mind when he wrote about the need for the impeachment process in two of The Federalist Papers, "according to Hamilton's biographer, Ron Chernow." Why is that part necessary? We don't need Chernow to state the obvious fact that Trump is precisely the sort of tyrant feared by the Founders. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to being in touch with you. All the best from Keith Fitzgerald

I am here as a descendant. Our link broke when David Lion Gardiner (middle son son of Jeremiah Gardiner) dropped the i with his death certificate naming him David Gardner. His son was named Lyon Gardner III whom in turn named his son Jeramia Gardner. Our conjecture is that it’s possible David Lion Gardiner may have taken the side of the colonies and Americanized the spelling. This is all on my dads side which all originate in Ny with ancestry in the areas Sarah Gardiner also acquired. Pretty cool, my son has mapped it all out
How many people are here because they are descended from Lion Gardiner?
I'm here because I was randomly looking at the eastern shore of the USA (on Google Earth) and happened to notice Gardiner Island. It immediately caught my eye and I had to know more about the place :)
I found this because I was looking into 10gf Lion Gardiner.

A very interesting story thanks for putting it on UA-cam for us to have a listen to, Sinatra was nothing but a wannabe the older Dons like Buffalino and Acardo couldn’t stand the prick it was only the likes of Giancana who had any time for him. It has been said in the past that Sinatra was called back to Chicago and got spat on and slapped by Acardo for being the asshole that he was. A good story so thanks I’ve been researching organised crime in America for over 40 years now and I’m really learning a hell of a lot more due to people like yourself so thanks again from Stevie boy in Britain, and of the mob was heavily involved in drugs they are illegal, you don’t need to say anymore then that on the subject, and usually when a boss is whacked you can guarantee that he will find the closest people to him will be in on the hit, a cop once said if you wanna find the killer look for the one who sends the flowers first. The first things I learnt all those years ago is it’s full of betrayal and it’s always gonna be your friends. That is also very true, these days the gangsters don’t wanna except the consequences of what organised crime is all about and going to jail is part of that life, the mob hasn’t finished as such but the mob has we know it is finished they don’t have the unions, judges cops or the politicians like they had years ago so that part of it is finished I think and I’ve always put that on Genovese and the power grab that he made plus the narcotics has helped ruin the mob it’s to easy now to cut a deal with the Feds I’ve listened to the whole video and it’s been very interesting thanks again buddy
