The song “Back in Dubai” encapsulates a deep sense of nostalgia for me. This song is a musical time capsule, capturing memories of a carefree youth in a unique and vibrant city. It reflects the special moments of that time. It’s the soundtrack of the best period of your life. 1980’s, Jebel Ali village.

I remember this so well we moved to Dubai In 1969 I was at school there Dubai English speaking school in the 1970s it's brings back so many memories !💚
I well remember this song with considerable nostalgia. We moved to Dubai in early 1978 and stayed in the Gulf until May of this year (2015). Sal Davis was a great entertainer and this song will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
Hi I've found this video alongwith the Lulu in Dubai tour broadcasted on channel 33 back in the 80's recorded by my Dad in his archives. Pls wait till I get it converted from VHS to a cd to upload.
@ifpr534 funnily enough, I'm literally this moment transferring a VHS tape (from 87 I reckon) titled "Dubai: Pearl of the Gulf" and after the main feature there's a couple of extra sections of footage of sights around Dubai, including a section for the song, leading into footage of the chess Olympiad.
man! sal davis is a true kenyan Legend.this are days when you did'nt have to trip off your cloths, create tattoos on your body, dress immodestry or swear.you simple sing out your voice and they made it as compared to today's crappy music.i love this .i think when this song came out i was only probably 4 years but love it everytime i listen to it
@Archangel3583 I never did see the video on TV. Only heard the song on the radio. I could not begin to imagine how you could find the video. Maybe if you knew someone with access to the Ch33 archives.
@nulifeagain I went to school in Abu Dhabi, came out with my family.. What does one do when in school? pretend to study, have fun with friends, go to the beach every Friday.. Left to finish schooling, came back in 94, and stuck here in Dubai ever since. Yes, it surely has changed since then..
@nowvoyager05 i wasnt there in the early 80s, but can tell you now, the entire place is a construction pit...not exaggerating, i've not been ANYWHERE in dubai that is 'complete' or that doesnt have some construction going at least 1/4 of a mile away...the marketing they do is AMAZING because when newcomers arrive here, its NOT even CLOSE to what its marketed globally
@Pjotrtje1969 can you tell us what you use to do in those days? what brought you there and what took you away? have you been back? its SOOOOOOOOO different now, sadly, not for the best in many peoples' opinion
my dad asked me to search for this song today...he used to live in dubai during the time this was released, at the time on radio, he wanted to record and send this song on tape, back to mom, so when the song played, he jumped out of bed, crashed against the player, only to find out he pressed the wrong button, so the RJ played the song once again, just for him !!!
Was a great time, those days. Actually, I was in Abu Dhabi, which will always remain that one step over Dubai.. Anyone know where to find the other UAE-related song, about the 7 Emirates?
I totally agree. This song brings a lump to my throat. I still think of it as home even though I was only there for seven years, but oh such good years. I went back once and it was a total culture shock. Yes it does break your heart.!
My husband and I listened to this today and Back in The Emirates...for the first time in a long time. We met and fell in love in Dubai - I was in the UAE 1979-1981. It was truly fabulous...we went back with our boys a few years later and it did break our hearts...have no wish to go back to modern Dubai...too painful. Today, we are celebrating havng met 40 years ago to the day and have played the songs...so evocative and emotional. Very glad we had those days, Carolyn
Ohh, I remember the childhood days of my life in UAE.This is where i grew up and i still miss Dubai but times have changed. When i went back to Dubai in 2008 after 8 years its crowded and Traffic was horrible. But whatever you say no place will beat the UAE. including Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. UAE is UAE and i will always love it as long as i live.....
Through shifting sands I lost the track but as long as you're calling I know I can find my way back so hoist the sail i'm home at last I'm longing to feel my feet standing on my ground
(Chorus) Back in Dubai there's a sun and it shines there all the time going home to the smiles of the kids who remind that Dubai is mine Back in Dubai there's a song and they sing it there all the time I can hear in the crowd there's a voice to be heard and I heard it singing out loud
All your morning light never looked so well on the day that I left you I had made a mistake I could tell when a southern breeze gave a last embrace I was caught in the time that was rushing from place to place

Brings back memories of Friday morning breakfast while listening to Richard Coram.
