I am very happy to announce the new availability of this arrangement through the good folks at Hal Leonard’s Arrange Me service! In 2000, I wrote this extended concert treatment of the classic composition from Kind of Blue for flügelhorn soloist Mike Johnston and the US Army Jazz Ambassadors. Mike and the band played so beautifully on this, with special kudos to Tim Young on piano and Todd Harrison for his creative colours on drums and percussion.
In addition to performances by Mike and the Jazz Ambassadors, the chart has been played in concert and on recordings by other fine soloists, to include:
• Tim Leahey with the USAF Airmen of Note
• Rob Parton on his big band’s recording We’ll Be Together Again
This music reminds me that I’m especially grateful to Kevin Laird, retired leader of the Army Jazz Ambassadors, for his encouragement and support of my music. Thanks, Chief!
