Great video! Using this video for my assignment in the advertising and sales promotion course to complete my business degree. Thanks for sharing!
I have this in both hands AND the analogous big toe joints, or MTP joints! I am getting my feet fixed first, then the CMC arthritis.
Dr. Collier is the best!
Both hands are bad. Seeing Dr. again soon want to put off surgery as long as I can.
Dr. Collier is the best!
69 YOM. Left thumb done 2 weeks ago. Put this off and dealt with the pain for too many years. Got 2 cortisone shots, one in 23, one this year (24). Didn't help much and seemed to accelerate the problem. Picking up an empty Coke can got my attention. The rt thumb is not as advanced but is is getting worse. Understand now why the recovery can be a year. Thanks Doc.
Can't hear the dialogue
So scared i have this had an injection didnt work now on a waiting list for 1 year or more to see someone scared i have to stop workin
I had the injections and they didn't work. Then I had surgery, which didn't work, either. These were for my left hand. A year or so later, I got carpal tunnel in my right hand. i told my doctor I didn't want to experience unsuccessful surgery agan. She said "I don't blame you." Then she urged me to buy special "gloves" that keep the hands rigid while you sleep. If I don't wear these, I wake up during the night with my hsnds burning. They keep your hands riigid. When you don't wear them, you have a tendency to bend your hands. OUCH!
Absolutely the best foot doctor ever!!!! If you have a problem, please go see this doctor.
What a well presented thorough presentation. Thank you!!!
The BEST doctor that you will come across. ❤ his wound care staff and his Office Team.
I'm so happy it helped Barry! You are an awesome drummer and nobody else could be the drummer for this incredible band but you❤❤
Suffering with this in my left thumb now - going for my third injection since last September in 2 days. The shot is not lasting as long as it did in the beginning. The burning sensation I experience while driving/holding steering wheel is enough to make me cry at this point.
I've done the PRP injections for a wrist injury. That was such fun at the time (pun intended) but the results were amazing.
Thank you Dr. Puckett.
I'm getting this surgery later this month and I am convinced that it will work. I get this assurance from my Doctor and from watching this video. Thank you for taking the time to produce this.
Excellent info
This video explained it so well. Thank you.
I’m a “lifetime Drummer” and don’t plan on stopping. As a performer for 60 years with innumerable landmark shows around the World, my hands have taken a beating. I’m 73 and play keys too (which is like therapy to me) To lose these skills it’s not an option. Thanks for all the encouraging comments to GET R DUN. God Bless Y’all☮️🥁🎹🎸🎼🎷
I had fiberwire cmc surgery a year ago. Results are great. I am 77. Patients need to remember that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.😊
The age question answered,, thank you very much. I thought that i may be too old. Wish i lived besr you Im in Australia. Thank you again, you have a great manner. Appreciate.
how friquent is z injections
Where are you located?
Is it normal for both hands to do this at the same time?
This video is fantastic! Dr Goll you are a wonderful teacher and expert. I watched 11 videos tonight and yours is by far the best! I am having this surgery next week and have been scared to death as it is on my right hand. And I am right handed. I am retired and play competitive racquetball and pickleball and can barely hold the racquets. I pray this fixes the problem . Now I understand what the dr is going to do and I am no longer scared thanks to you! You ROCK!
Doctor- 1st Orthopedic Surgeon labeled mine “gout” 2nd one “pseudo gout” Rhemotologist M.D. “pseudo gout/arthritis” After a thorough series of crystal clear x-rays: Resident Orthopedic M.D. “inflammatory” something or another His boss, a hand specialist- cmc/stt Too many seem to subscribe to the idea that the person in pain needs just enuf info and no more to get them out of the office Me: a little knowledge is dangerous YOU - nailed it w/o seeing it
Wow An educated xpertise Thanks
This was a great video! I am in Birmingham and seeing a ortho hand surgeon. This helps me explain to my husband what is wrong and why at some point I will need surgery.
Dr. Robinson operated on me the second and third day were the worst days. The pain went away drastically on the seventh day I did not need a walker on the eighth day I was driving. And now I’m on my 16th day and feel very little pain. Actually, the knee that was not operated on feels worse than the one that was. At the hospital where they did the surgery everyone there was extremely kind not only with me, but with all the other patients and their visitors. Looking forward to doing the other knee as soon as possible.
I had surgery 11 months ago and still have tightness, pain ..especially when tieing a shoe or buttoning a shirt. I do stretch and have full strength but still have pain but not like before..it’s a different pain now. I got a few cortisone shots since surgery and they did help. It was suspension arthroplasty with suture, no ligaments transfer. Index finger is also tight, surgical site still a little sensitive. Can suture have been too tight? After Surgery had a nerve study, no carpel but a little nerve irritation. Feels like bone sticking out at mcp joint on ulner side. Why would I still have issues 11 months out and is it safe to continue cortisone shot? Thank you.
My sports orthopedist told me to live with my arthritis because if I have the surgery, I will never hold a hammer again. I like to work in my shop and my hands are very important to me.
I am a retired home remodeling contractor. I was promised that I would hold tools and be able to do sports, so I am getting it done next week. I hope your guy is very wrong!
I’m a contractor and had the surgery on my left hand 3 years ago. Had a longer recovery due to the type of work I do, but don’t regret it at all. Hand feels as good as new and I can hold anything with it. Probably going to have to have the right done this year and have no second thoughts about it. My surgeon said he would perform the procedure on a 20 year old laborer if need be. It’s durable and works.
@@mikeklein2865 Thanks. Did you have the surgery where they roll up the tendon and put it where the bone used to be?
@@vernonland5987 yes the LRTI surgery
I saw Dr. Goll today in his office. I got a cortisone injection before and I am just glad I met him. Thank you, Dr. Goll!
I have arthritis in both thumbs but left is worse. I’m hoping to have this surgery in the next 6 months or so. I have a great orthopedic hand surgeon. Just need to get it scheduled. This video was the best I’ve seen on this subject. Thank you!
Well explained. I have done a lot of research on this and I am very likely to have the surgery in the near future. I had a cortisone injection today for the first time and I know it is a temporary measure until I nail down a surgeon. Thanks for putting this video out there, more people should watch it. I have lived with the pain for 5 years and it's time to do something.
This is excellent video
Very good Person, Surgeon and Doctor!!! 1000%% recommendation!!!
Great video. Very informative. I’m scheduled for surgery in a couple weeks. I can’t wait cause my thumb hurts.
I love his hair.
Great video! Just had my second CMC surgery, I’m 60. My right hand was 5 years ago and it is feeling excellent my surgeon did the tendon procedure as well. January 18, 2024. I just did my left hand I am 2 1/2 weeks in just had my cast removed, and now in a removable splint. I guess I forgot how painful this really was….The end result is amazing. Just hang in there have trust in your medical advisors, it does get worse before it gets better, although you will not regret your decision I have forwarded this video to friends that have been having this issue! Best of luck, you will have no regrets!! Sue
Did you get your strength back in your thumb? I’m worried about that
What happens if I don’t have surgery
I put off the surgery for 2 years and it just kept getting worse. More pain. Less movement. My surgery scheduled for next week.
Excellent video. Had this thumb surgery 5 weeks ago and this video reinforces much of the info I was given initially but forgot some of it. Length of recovery is the most surprising part of this surgery. Much longer than I had hoped. Thanks for the video
I'm having this surgery on January 26. I've watched the surgery procedure on a video where they harvest a tendon for it but my surgeon says he uses anchors instead of a tendon. Has anyone had this kind of procedure?
Any updates on how you are doing?
Once again fobbed of with cortisone injections.
I had LRTI on my left in 2009 and my right in 2014. I was 64 yo at the time of my first surgery. Previously to surgery, I could not pick up a carton of milk. After surgery I had therapy for about six months on each hand and by one year the hand was like new. I could do anything that I could do before arthritis in the hand. After about ten years, the only thing to show for the procedure are the two scars. Both thumbs have normal movement and strength.
Thank you for sharing your great story! My first surgery is next week and this gives me hope!
@@mikebasson3798 You will get discouraged about 3-4 months after surgery as nothing will seem to move. Just keep working through the therapy. Do not stop. It will all loosen up. Total healing takes a year but it is worth it in the end 👍
Dr Arndt did an achilles tendon rupture repair on my right foot on 9/15/2023. I was in a lot of pain for several weeks complaining of severe pain at the back of my heel and at the back of my foot by the suture site. Dr Arndt said “ it looked good”, this despite several calls about extreme pain following 8, 12, and longer post operation. After feeling I was dismissed I went to my primary who ordered an MRI and got me a referral for a second opinion. The day of my second opinion my new surgeon ordered x-rays in office. I found out that my original achilles tendon repair FAILED! I do not blame Dr Arndt for the surgery failure as these things fail from time to time due to age, etc. I DO hold him responsible for my needless suffering for not ordering so much as an xray when I was in obvious distress. Had he done so a revision could have been performed sooner. I just had my preop primary appointment, got my chest xray, and bloodwork. Now I’ll wait for a new surgery date with my new surgeon. When I asked what my new surgeon might have done differently than what Dr Arndt did he said “ The only thing I probably would have done differently is I would have left you in the boot a lot longer. Again I’m not upset at Dr Arndt for a failed surgery. I am very upset that he not so much as ordered an xray for all the time I have been in severe pain! Dr Arndt while caring dropped the ball on this case and I canceled my appointment for Jan 4th 2024. When I asked the girl if she wanted to know why I am canceling my appointment, she said “ no, not really”! I hope Dr Arndt reads this comment and takes the time to reach out bc my new surgeon located my issue within a few minutes after reviewing the MRI & new x-rays and consulted with the radiologist. A few minutes of Dr Arndt’s time would’ve shown the failure and all these several weeks in severe pain might have been able to have been resolved with a second surgery.
Btw...I really liked this as it explained everything clearly!
You didn't mention using a cast, do you not do that? My doctor said I will have a cast.
At what point do I see a surgeon , I have it but it’s not pulling fingers down
I am 15 and I am boy and I have osteoarthritis in right and left thumb and in all fingers of left hand 😭😢
This is the very finest explanation of CMC joint treatment I’ve seen. Thank you. Wish you were in Connecticut.
