How to Avoid Stress Buildup & Dysregulation in Kids & Ourselves
My guest this week is Jason Campbell.
We are discussing how to avoid stress buildup and dysregulation in kids and ourselves by learning how to create more space in your life-and I don’t just mean physical space-we’re talking about the space we need in our minds, thoughts, feelings, bodies, and the environment around us. Learning how to create this space allows us to be more reflective and responsive when things happen, as opposed to being reactive. We explore practical ways to not only avoid the buildup of toxic stress, emotions and experiences, but also how to be more resilient, especially when we’re navigating particularly tough times and seasons with our kids and in our own adult lives.
Jason Campbell’s journey into meditation, music and wellness began 44 years ago, at the age of 8, when his teacher told him to never listen to notes, but instead to listen to the space in between the notes. He’s been creating music ever since and has released over 100 albums and has been #1 on multiple billboards and Amazon charts. Jason is also a seventh degree black belt and co founder of Zen Wellness. His unique perspective on health, wellness and spiritual growth comes from his lifelong study of both music and the ancient arts of Eastern Health, medicine, meditation and enlightenment. His music and teachings have opened meditation to thousands of people who have never meditated before, or who have tried meditation and failed in their effort to simply sit still and clear the mind. Jason often says “Be still for one song, five minutes per day, close your eyes and breathe with the bell. It can change your life.” On a personal note, Jason is the father of two young adult children and understands what it means to navigate the many challenges that come along with having kids and the extra needs they bring.

Yep. I was drugged as a child. I'm 32. I can 100% say I was reacting to my parents mistreating me. No amount of drugs fixes that. It just makes you more sedated but you're still being abused, and your doctors aren't helping anything. I hated them then, I hate 'em now. I'm so glad I rose up and threw off the chains of zombification and asserted myself and my interests against everyone who had been keeping me down for decades. I moved out, ordered my doctor to draw down everything. Everyone was telling me to quit smoking weed and that coming off the meds is a mistake. I told them your disapproval doesn't mean anything to me. I've seen what you approve of and we're done with that. You've had your decades to ruin my life. No more. It created a relationship where I felt like I was at war with every authority figure around me in my life. I was called a bully for fighting every drugging. I could see and do what they couldn't.

I’m not a medical professional, but I have read enough to know that one must be EXTREMELY CAREFUL getting off their meds. I recently watched a movie on YT titled “Medicating Normal”, which demonstrated the powerful effects of some of the drugs being prescribed for mood/health issues. It probably behooves you to work with a professional … maybe this doctor can help: ua-cam.com/video/uqrFS6OtAmE/v-deo.htmlsi=NoL6ginyRXUerEmn In any event, I do not have an answer for you, but I sincerely hope you find the solution.

Absolutely; amongst 30+ different psych meds over 44 yrs (starting w/Ritalin @ age 4 in 1971; my DOB: 7/20/1967), Mellaril @ age 8 in 1975, Thorazine @ age 10 in 1977 (it fucked up my sexual development), Haldol @ age 11 in 1978, Triavil @ age 14 in 2/1982, & Trilafon & Elavil (the individual components of Triavil) @ age 16 in 1983 & 17 in 1984, "respectively". The cumulative adverse effects from psych meds actually worsened my condition (Bipolar Disorder & ADHD, respectively). I've been psych med-free since 1/1/2017 after Zyprexa (which I had massive weight gain & suicidal feelings) & Depakote (which "zombified" me) 4 just over 8 yrs (from 2008-2016). Since becoming psych med-free; I've had struggles but @ least I can own my feelings.

Hello, I ran across this video while searching and had a question. This isn't the same situation as the regression you spoke of but I hope you can help. I have a niece and she is almost 9 years old. She only started going to the bathroom a year ago and that was only to pee. She still will not go poop in the commode. She poops on herself even at school. This is a very smart, brilliant child with no developmental issues. She has been to the doctor and had X-rays and everything was fine. She is spoiled beyond what spoiled is though. Do you think this is a health issue, or because she's being lazy, or just doesn't want to wipe herself? I have never heard of a child this age still messing in her pants.. especially knowing that she is extremely intelligent. Thanks for any information ❤

Is the idea of serotonin re uptakers debunked? I have been on an antidepressant for 33 years. I have been on anti anxiety medication for about 12 years. I am terrified at the thought of being without them. My experience was that I wanted to be dead before I took the antidepressant. The time I weened off, those thoughts returned and I could not function. As for the anti anxiety, experiencing severe anxiety was terrifying. I never felt numb. I think I will be on these meds for life. Am I mistaken?

My son was deeply despairing at a young age. I eagerly reached across the desk for a prescription for my suicidal 8 year old. Not to say it was not agonising at the same time. One of my three children was off the charts intense and I was terrified he would carry through with a suicide plan. I am filled with doubt I was a good Mom. I placed him in psychiatric facilities 3 times during his growing up and as a grown man he has let me know that was unforgiveable. My best was not good enough and the pain my son had over decisions I made is unfair. We have not thoroughly discussed the medications and his experience of that. He expressed his feelings and thoughts very articulately during his growing up. I kept record of these expressions and my observations and discussed with his doctor. His doctor was very cautious and seemed very sincere in offering the best care.
