Replacing Leaf Spring Liners on a C3 Corvette
Переглядів 662Рік тому
I painted the leaf spring on my 77 corvette with POR15 but didn't want to install the old worn out liners. The custom cut liners cost about $60 before shipping at the time so I drove down the road to Speedway Motors and pickup up a roll of leaf spring liner to cut myself.

Great job. What bolts did you buy, and did they have the threads sealer already applied?
Great Video Bro! Gave me a place to start looking.
Now take it apart and flip the rubber over so it’s not holding water and dirt and they will be perfect
Wow, I didn’t even think about that. That’s going to bother me now. I’ll probably be taking it apart and flipping the rubber
I’m sorry when I read what I wrote it sounded like I was breaking your balls didn’t mean to. Believe me I am rebuilding the whole rear suspension on my 79 and I know what you’re going through. But hey it’s a lot of fun working on a car you don’t need a computer to work on it . Good luck and keep going.
Just stumbled across your channel because I bought a really cheap rusted out 2 door 65 Impala (not SS). My goal is to save it from the crusher and maybe one day have a nice streetable car. Point is, your work, your channel should have more views and more interaction. Hope you still have the Impala, appreciate your work and you sharing it.
Thanks! I actually don’t have the impala. I sold it to my neighbor, but it is still running around and I still get to see it!
What if you're not getting 12 volts of that and also what prongs do you poke into to check your voltage
If you don’t have 12 volts there then I’d check a fuse or the wire harness
@@iowadiy6361 its got power The shop thinks it's the relay that sits on the firewall but they can't find a replacement for it
Could this resolve p0014?
I put a 350 in my 91 toyota 4x4 pickup. And it has a toyota 3 core radiator with 2 mini pusher type cooling fans. As im breaking in the newly rebuilt engine, I shut it down at 240° as the fans are obviously not moving enough air through the 3 core. I really didn't want to plumb another radiator into the back but it looks like I'll have to do just that. But do you think the stock iron water pump will have enough ass to move that much water?
Can a bad spark plug cause a misfire?
I have a misfire on cylinder 6 on my 98 Chevy Silverado
you have a line wrench
This was a great tutorial. Helped me out a bunch on my 18 sierra.
Did you have to do a AFM delete??
I’m not getting fire too my actuator plug any idea
You ever figure it out?
First check is always the fuse! And then start following the wire back to look for problems
Did you have any issues with the lower rad hose being in the way of the fan motor??
Great tip! I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. A plastic knife might be better, but I didn't want to burn myself in a tight spot. Took about 10 minutes to cut it out. I also removed the blower resistor to give better access.
Red lock tight👀😅
Always make sure that your two dots on each sprocket are lined up together first before you pull the old set off! You can bump your starter as much as needed to get them lined up or just put the harmonic balancer bolt back in on turn it with a socket until you have the #1 piston at TDC (Top Dead Center). You can also check your rotor and make sure that it is pointed at the #1 plug and those two dots are aligned before you remove the old one then don't turn the engine at all and then you are safe to install the new one! Lol. But great vid, Ty so much!
Can you tell me what the name for the thing so I can order it
Fixed my issue is 5 minutes!
If you have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, you may have to drain your radiator hose that's below the fan motor. That's what I did to get that hose out the way.
Nice truck, do you have more videos of it?
You never put grease in a pilot bushing cause they are self lubricated.
I cant get the fan out the bottom for shit, it keeps getting hooked up on something ive got all the bolts off but its like stuck in there, do i just need to keep screwing with it until it comes out? And im starting to think getting it back in might be just as difficult
Hi, thanks for posting this video. Unfortunately my truck won’t start after changing the sensor. Any suggestions? I hooked up my scanner and got 35 different codes. Too many to list. Erasing them didn’t help
It sounds like a connection is missing, or somehow the transmission module has lost communication. Could be a blown fuse? Or perhaps the whole main connector got disconnected.
Hi, thank you for responding. Thank you for posting the video. Yes it was the main connector. I thought it was seed correctly. But I drain the fluid inspected all the connections and it was not fully seated. Before replacing the pan and filling the oil I attempted to turn it over. PIA
I believe those bolts for the cam covers are one use? Since you’re fixing a “ leak “ it would probably be a good idea to use new bolts. The 10% more torque sounds like an idea if you don’t have a set of new bolts. Are the covers leaking again and how many miles?
Unless a bolt is torque to yield, they’re reusable. No leaks until we sold the car! I think the seals were replaced around 60,000 and then we sold it around 90,000.
@@iowadiy6361the water pump has, I believe 3 TTY bolts, I just reused them, no leaks. I'm not recommend it, I'm just saying I had success. Also I have experience working on cars.
Impala 12 bolt
You skipped the pan install!!!!!
You talk way too much and repeat yourself like 5 times, literally, every time you say something… and the so’s.. my god, so, talking, talking, so. Talking, so. Talking so, talking, talking, so…. I’m sorry if nobody has ever pointed these out to you, but you need to know so you can correct it. It’s either I tell you or you go thru life annoying people and have said people talking behind your back or worse, avoiding hanging out with you… and this extra important if you want your channel to gain any traction…. If it’s a nervous thing, just remember that it’s only you and the camera, you’re not performing in front of an audience. The audience doesn’t see you at all until you’re comfortable with the content that u just created/edited. When you think it’s ready for UA-cam, then and only then, you can release your creation with confidence.
I feel bad for your wife, or maybe she's just as schizophrenic as you are. I'll just leave this here: the creator of the video did just fine. He's reiterating things because it is of significant importance you bonehead.
You did a good job pointing out a couple of very important things on a Small Block Chevy engine. While searching the Internet looking at Photos and watching a few other Videos they fail to make you aware that that dowel pin when facing it on a small Block Chevy will be on the right side. If you line the dots up with timing at 6:30 and Crankshaft gear at 12:00 with the dowel pin on the left you will be 180 degrees out. I bring this to your attention because I came across drawings and a couple videos showing the dowel pin on the left and people in forums asking about installation problems. LEFT is WRONG if dowel is on the left. Good Video Thanks.
Glad it helped you out!
Thanks!
This helped a lot!
So... None of the 04 Silverado comes with cabin air filter ? I just ordered one and having problem locating it to replace..lol. Can you confirm this for me please? Thanks.
It was an option for the year. Some have it and others don’t
@@iowadiy6361 I checked and mine didn't. Thanks
Just before reinstalling the timing cover, did you place the black rubber tab at the bottom of the cover?
The seal for the oil pan? The oil pan ended up coming off after the timing chain install so it was not an issue for me
Tighten nut till you can’t move the washer, then back off nut one notch at a time till you can move the washer. Then pin it!
I wish you showed how you took the last one out because he’s definitely not easy even from that side. Stuff like this makes me hate engineers
Good video!! Just use the dielectric grease between the ceramic and the boot, not on the electrical connection. Dielectric grease is an insulator.
I thought the negative battery terminal is supposed to be disconnected for reason it can trigger some fans or something if not disconnected??
That is new information to me. The fans were not triggered on, but if they were, I was not working in the fan so it would not be an issue.
What is the transmission temperature supposed to be at when it’s hot?????
When it’s hot I’ve seen it go up to 180 degrees. Even hotter is normal. The cooler is in the radiator so up to 210 is normal
@@iowadiy6361 thanks
Since the Vortec heads block the internal coolant bypass holes, I was wondering how you handled this? Some people drill holes in the thermostat, some add an external line from the manifold to the water pump, and others say that nothing is required if the coolant is allowed to flow to the heater core at all times.
I could be mistaken, but aftermarket heads will do the same thing. My understanding is that nothing is required additional
@iowadiy6361 do you know what torque is required on the rocker arm bolts. I'm mess with my 72 Chevy El Camino. Lost my manual when my vehicle was broken into.
@peacepoet1947 for a small block Chevy it should be 50 ft-lbs lubricated with engine oil
@@iowadiy6361 intake manifold depending on aluminum or cast iron varies on the different video I watched from 11 ~ 20 psi. I also learned that you can turn the pushrod and tighten the rocker arm bolts until you hit the feeler gage. If you can't turn the pushrod , it's too tight.
Yup glad I saw your way of accessimg the 8
It was way more work than expected!
I saw a video where they removed the wheel well covers
hello I would like to replace the chevy van 3500 gasoline engine year 2000 with a diesel engine, can you refer me to a diesel engine model that can work on the van please.
My car cools a little too well. I have a 1978 Malibu with a 350, and I cannot get it to get hot. I was running a 160, then I switched it to a 195, but it made absolutely no difference. When the car is idling, it does go up to 160, but as soon as I start driving, it immediately drops back down. I do have a direct fan, but it's the job of the thermostat to retain coolant until it reaches the set temperature of it? One time I even removed the fan entirely, and as soon as I started driving, temperature plummeted. Any advice?
I would maybe try to verify that the gauge is working properly. That sounds a little suspicious to me that it would cool down while driving without a fan. Could it be a mismatched sending unit to the gauge? Where maybe 160 on the gauge is actually more like 210?
Nice, some cars call for 0.002" spec. You can get Arbor Shims from Zoro for a decent price. I might use aluminum foil. I've usually ground the back side of the rotor that touches the hub.
I would have definitely preferred to use the proper shims, but the scarcity of parts after Covid got me. Arbor shims worked well for me! As far as grinding the hub, I don’t have a way to ensure that I can grind it flat so I didn’t try that method
@iowadiy6361 grinding is kind of a pain, but just hitting the high side. This was the first video where I saw someone talk about it and then actually show how to fix it with parts you can find!
@esiljander2362 This is my first Corvette, and it’s been a learning curve, but the rotor runout and the trailing arm rebuild are two things that are difficult to find much information on.
quarter to three eights of an inch off the bottom of the pan
Fuck $500 vs this is a no brainer
Good video and great information thanks you for the help 👍
Can you please tell me what size socket(s) you used for the pitman arm?. I have to do take my steering gear box out my 98 chevy today or tomorrow. Thank you good sir .
Awesome video buddy
Oil change shop guys say I've got many leaks on my wife's '15 1.4L, but of course they don't wanna get specific, so saw this cam sensor leaking when getting gas today and looked it up and I guess a couple $9 rubber bands from Romania and an E10 ETorx socket are in my cart now to get along with the last of the Christmas stuff. I guess I'll keep fixing all the oil leaks I can find like this one until the top half of the engine stays dry and then maybe see if the dealer I got it from can find the rest. Too old to lay down and look for this stuff any more, but if they're up top like this one I can do it.
I got 4 thou to
Good info..thank you
