Yeah it's a Star wars reference hence the Han Solo picture. Fun fact George Lucas fucked up when he wrote parsecs because that does not measure time although he saved himself by saying it's because the run goes by so many black holes doing it in a short distance means he when through as oppose to around them. The More You Know.

I think of the Kessel Run as a series of maneuvers that typically take up a lot of space and if you can do them at a certain speed in less distance, it shows your skill. That way it bothers me less.

The Kessel run is around 16 (if my memory serves me right) but Han can do it in under 12 because he is able to fly closer to the Maw. Basically he doesn't have to fly around all the shit because his ship is faster and wont get pulled in or destroyed, making the distance shorter. :3

I hope this and never stops. They have made the best music I have ever heard. What I listened to before I found them, I have no clue. This band changed everything about music for me. I thank them.

i don't let my friends listen to these, because all they will think is that they suck because they don't approve of music i listen too (god knows why) but i'm glad because they will never know such greatness ^_^

It is interesting to think of how that translates to the speed once can achieve. in Star War under the official explanation. I mean a parsec is over 3 light years. So either Han is doing races that last well over 36 years or he is traveling WAY over the speed of light.

Oops, you're right, the official explanation has been covered multiple times over. I do still like the "Han made it up" explanation, though. (As you can tell, I'm happy to ignore all the "expanded universe" world-building Lucas did later on.)

It's a direct quote from Han Solo, and there are two common explanations for what it means. The official explanation: the Kessel Run skirts a cluster of black holes, and Han's ship was fast enough that he didn't have to go as far around, so the total distance of his route was especially low. A popular fan explanation: Han was just boasting and didn't know what he was talking about.

Considering that it's hyperspace, perhaps they were able to fold the entire Kessel Run into 12 parsecs.

Doesn't mean it makes sense. Star wars uses it for distance literally in the next few movies

I thought he was pulling some Halo type of machinery that would cause him to punch a hole in space/time causing him travel shorter but instead he traveled next to black holes that WOULD warp space/time to make the travel distance shorter. Speed has nothing to do with it, by cutting corners, one can cut down on the distance.

The Kessel Run is 18 parsecs long but as Han Solo bragged, if one were to take more risky action and cut corners, you can supposedly cut the distance all the way down to 12.

Ok so for those who dont' know yes a parsec is a distance, but since the millenium falcon is fast enough it bent space and time to the point that it could do the kessel run shorter than the actual run itself. Hence...it did it in less distance. I'm sure a bigger star wars nerd can explain better but yeah.
