This can cause dizziness or lightheadedness, which may induce panic and further hyperventilation, worsening the CO2 imbalance. Additionally, anxiety or stress can also drive hyperventilation in the absence of high CO2 levels. In summary, hyperventilation can occur in response to both elevated CO2 (to eliminate it) and reduced CO2 (due to a physiological or stress response).
