My 457th time watching this video, and it will never get old. Lights my soul all the way up
In 1973 I went with The Fall Creek Band to Winfield KS when Fred Shellman went up to Sam and said, "we're starting a Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, do you want to come"? and Sam said, "where is Telluride", to witch Fred grabbed him by the ear and said, "come on we'll show ya". The rest is history. We built a new stage in town park and for years and years NGR graced us all with their incredible talents. So many top groups came to "jam" with them, because Sam was just a magnet, and every year Telluride Bluegrass just grew and grew. Sam is now on his 49th "consecutive" year in the park and really is the King of the park. My wife Lexie and I are on our 49th consecutive year of marriage and fell in love to some of Newgrass Revival's love songs. Over the years Fall Creek's dreams came true and groups like John Hartford, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dillon, Joe Cocker, Emmylou Harris, Neil Young and so many more have come to play music in our small town called "to-hell-you-ride, the town without a bellyache". I think if it weren't for the Fall Creek Boys there may not have been a Telluride Bluegrass. Thanks Kooster (RIP), Freddie (RIP), picker and JB for your inspiration, not to mention you fun music, and a big thanks to Sam Bush for starting the Newgrass sound, so many years ago, I hear his old riffs everywhere.
Oh My My 👏❤️🙂👏❤️🙂👏❤️🙂
That was amazing to hear. Oh I WISH they would all 4 get back together, even if it were just one show. Even if it were one song. The guys have all still “got it”… but that won’t be forever.
❤from Nepal huge fan of this song since 2003
Nice
❤
Wow Wow Wow Have always loved everything about this song...
I saw them live at Down Home Kitchen twice in the early 80’s when I was 13-15 years old. A life changing experience for me for sure. Luckily I have a dad that can appreciate great music. I wish they could have stayed together longer though. Definitely a supergroup.
I've got a Patrick Eggle Tony Eggle Tony Iommi Legend prototype and the guitar has an amazing quality and sounds fantastic!
what is the device he used in teh begining, it creates long sound on the guitar
It's an Ebow
We were there for this concert! It was incredible! (In fact, we've been to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival every year since 1998.) It's so good you can't resist going back once you've experienced it!)
I live a million miles away and I'll sell my soul to make it back and bring my children to be a part of something so amazing. One of if not the best music and atmosphere on earth ❤️
Love it.
Only Pat Flynn is missing.......
Love this song! Does anyone know what year this was recorded in? I first saw this video in 2006.
Have to say love this version, definitely miss Pat,on the album "Commonwealth" yes , however the album version line up was original, "originals" Sam Bush,John Cowan, Curtis Birch (guitar) and Courtney Johnson (banjo) the first New Grass Revival,if you listen to the album you will hear the difference, both great, but ONLY one "Original*👍😎
No Pat? Then it's just Sam, Bela, Jon, & somebody sittin' in, not NGR.
SOME GOOD MEMORIES YOU GUYS ARE GREAT
OMG thank you for posting this. I am just finding it now.
There's got to be a reason why Pat has never joined them for a reunion. I wonder if some personal issues are involved. It's a shame the whole band has never appeared for a reunion.
I wonder if they are singing this song to Pat
dark rumors of bad blood between Sam and Pat...just rumors but there must be some reason they won't play together. Sure sounded great back in the day.
Sam rockin' a Cardinals shirt!?
+Tyler M Yeah, I've heard he's a big fan. His idea of a perfect day is playing mando while watching baseball. LOL
+Tyler M sam's a huge cardinals fan. notice the shirt he's wearing in my photo.
To those asking, the track is called " Jungleyes " by Simon Phillips ( the drummer in this video ! ).
Completamente incrivel...
peerless
I first saw these awesome musicians/performers in Telluride at Bluegrass 1986. They were awesome then...they've only gotten better. I "did" Telluride for 18 years, my last was in 2002. My soul misses it but my memories are precious.
These guys are the best - true talent and you can tell they enjoy bringing their music to the people - Cowan is one of the very best vocalist in the world !!
Yes he is. I have only likde 4 vocalists in my life time and he is one of them. I don't dislike the others, I am just an instrumentalist kind of person.
It's New Grass!
Right, it's "Newgrass"
The song instrumental and vocals are wonderful but this isn't bluegrass
they have been told that for 45 years.
Amazing song! Sam Bush is the best mandolin player!!!
Amen!
They are my favorite band...after The Beatles, that is. Can't wait to see them again in June! Sixteenth consecutive festival this year!
Simply amazing. Bela Fleck could be the most technical musician in the world. A true master of his instrument!
well...there IS Bruce Cockburn's guitar playing. I do get your point though.
LOVE IT!!
...and in a Cardinals jersey no less!
sam bush is the only one that can still rock the hair hahaha
Amen!
The best country band. Fantastic musicians.
It must still be cold in Colorado in June! Everybody is bundled up!
Dude, Telluride is at 8000 ft altitude.
This is from the DVD...
@laylahh1951 John is on tour with The Doobie Brothers! Sounding great-he was with them for a while in the late 80's, now he is their permanent bass player. Pat Flynn has been touring with Michael Martin Murphey.
@Plocky241 Fender strat or warmoth guitar. Essentially you want the neck and body and nothing else. Drop in a callaham bridge or a wilkinson bridge. Then an earvana or buzz feiten nut. Locking tuners. Decent electronics, you should be good to go. You will still come out cheaper than most guitars and definitely way cheaper than anything in the price range. ~ Sean
This if from the DVD...boooooo
Good sound! great
@MrMacWilkens The first fest I missed in 18 years. Unfortunately, have not been able to attend since 2002, though EVERY Father's Day week-end, my heart flies to that canyon in God/dess's Country.
The song name is "Deeper and Deeper,". It's on their 1981 album, "Commonwealth." It's a GREAT album, every cut is fantastic. They have two live albums out, one from Telluride 1977. Sam Bush and John Cowan still have vibrant solo careers, you can find 'em places. To hear John sing, live, is awe-inspiring.
@MrMacWilkens whats the song name?
Ok, If I were to buy a guitar and install Andy's DiMarzio pickups to get close to Andy's tone and not spend 2,600$, what guitar anyone recommend??
From about 3:15 - 6:10 --> Simply Awesome!!!
Why isn't this performance included on any Telluride albums? I want to buy an MP3 of this performance. Who do I pay?
@kjfeit If you know these guys, tell them we in south Mississippi are starving - STARVING - for a good concert. We don't have any good venues, but we've got fields a' plenty.
@kjfeit To north005. Sorry, I misunderstood the question. The song title is "Deeper and Deeper".
