The Films of Chloé Zhao
Переглядів 7563 роки тому
One of the most acclaimed storytellers of our time, director Chloé Zhao makes films about the vastness of the land and people’s relationships to it, about the spirituality of nature and the things that shape our identities through in places and characters we rarely see screen. This is a small tribute to her three features so far, a trilogy of sorts: “Songs My Brothers Taught Me,” “The Rider,” a...
Great Films of 2019 NOT Nominated for the Oscars
Переглядів 3904 роки тому
The 2020 Oscar Nominations have been announced, and they're... pretty depressing. Apart from Parasite, many of the best films of 2019 got ZERO nominations. From The Farewell to Hustlers to Uncut Gems, these were films that defined the year, and to see them snubbed so resoundingly is a profound misstep by the Academy. In honor of these great films, we've made this video tribute, set to the incre...

Remember Me: The Best Animated Films of 2017

2017 was NOT a weak year for animation. If you look beyond mainstream releases, it was a year with plenty of innovative and daring storytelling within the medium. "The Breadwinner," "Birdboy: The Forgotten Children," "Loving Vincent," and "In This Corner of the World" are just a few examples of form and content being pushed to new and unique heights in animation. "My Entire High School Sinking ...

...And I’m verklempt. Talk amonst yourselves. I’ll give you a topic. “The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy nor Roman. Discuss!” This is a fantastic tribute to Paku-san, and actually shows nearly all of his directorial works. Heidi, of course, gets the first nod, as she should. I would have added a clip from Lupin the 3rd, and maybe also Hustle Punch and Wolf Boy Ken, but this is damn near perfect. If you’re a Ghibli Freak and haven’t seen these fantastic movies, here’s your new homework assignment. You need to see all of them, they’re all fantastic. Heidi, Anne, Chie and Gauche are all on UA-cam, so check them out while you can.

+Daniel Thomas MacInnes Your comment was awesome. I'm a fan of Ghibli, myself, even though I haven't seen several of these films. That being said, "Grave of the Fireflies" is completely amazing, and made it into my Anime collection, years ago. :) One day, I hope to see "Princess Kaguya", because it looks absolutely breathtaking.

@@MP-cv6if Yes! I finally did see it...and was not a fan...oof. I will say that it is visually stunning, though. It's truly a moving piece of art. It resembles a water color painting come to life. I also finally saw "Only Yesterday"...and was not a fan of that one, either...(how can a character have such potential, as a child, then grow up, & become such a boring adult?) UA-camr Jelloapocalypse does a review on all of the Studio Ghibli films, & his opinion on "Only Yesterday" pretty much sums up how I felt about the film, as well...

Top ten Isabelle Huppert films (leading or supporting - just based on her performance) And which three movies do you recommend I watch (that showcase her versatility) I've only seen her in the French movie Amour which I enjoyed and was deeply disappointed when Emmanuelle Riva lost that OSCAR to J Law. I have yet to watch Elle. Thanks in advance! :)
