Hello! I'm Cory Allen. I make Computer-Aided Design (CAD) content. I've been working in programs like AutoCAD, Inventor, SOLIDWORKS, and Revit for about half of my life. I try to share what I've learned to save you years of YOUR life. I'm currently learning other types of design and may bring that content to my channel soon too. The channel is dedicated to teaching you how to design in a practical application.
A little about me: I'm an educator at a local college, I'm trained in many design disciplines, and I'm currently learning game design and development. Needless to say, I love DESIGN, not just one specific genre of design.
Like the content I make and want to show your support? Consider a contribution to the cause! Money buys me time to make more content! Below is a link to Ko-Fi where you can donate.

very helpful vid, thanks
You're welcome!
Thank you bro!!! Seriously
@@micahmartz4 Absolutely! Hope it helped!
After using Catia V5 and then using this software. Is a nightmare for a designer 😢
I've never personally used Catia as it's not popular in my area, but that's interesting!
Very nice Cory! I appreciate your efforts! Well done.
@@shannonmoser4717 I appreciate it!
this was very helpful
@@JohnathanTroy-l3i I'm glad you thought so!
Really Nice Tutorial... thank you... keep it up
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi man! Lets say that I draw a 1/87 plastic model car, just the body and I wanba draw the glasses like one internal block .5mm thick. Is there an easy way to do it? Thanks
Give me more context. Maybe! Hard to say so far haha
@@CoryAllenOfficial You never had a plastic model as a kid? Like Revell, Tamyia... If you did, you would know.
@@wuhegthonjunior8504 I did once upon a time lol. When you say glasses like one internal block, what do you mean?
@@CoryAllenOfficial The windows, front and back glass, maybe my Englis is wrong.
@@wuhegthonjunior8504 no you're all good! So you can definitely create multiple features and have them all in one part to make the glass one entity. How to make each sheet of glass is the only tricky part. I'd imagine probably "sweeps" for each window. What you may find easier is to model each window individually in place then use something like shrinkwrap to combine them after the fact, making one block.
Hi, when I export as a rfa, my textures are not preserved. Did I miss something ?
It's hard to say without more information to be honest. Maybe, but probably not lol. Did you have custom appearances on the parts? Or did you apply to face? Perhaps it needs to be one or the other.
@@CoryAllenOfficial Could you share your model ? That might help me to troubleshoot
Unfortunately I no longer have it :( I just made this for designing our lab on campus. Those files are long gone. I wish I could provide more context on this issue!
This part was almost my downfall. I want to say we call this one the Pac-Man. Lol
Still notorious 🤣
I hated this part 😂
Thanks Buddy 😊
You're welcome!
thank youuuuu
You're welcome!
Can you do one each for 2024 Chapter 11 exercise 5(Pulley Wheel) and 6(Bearing Seat) please. Thanks
I'm currently not taking requests but am looking to create a patreon for that very thing!
Don't know if you're still watching these comments, but when I click insert frame, it says "Content Center query failed. Please check your Content Center configuration to make sure all required libraries are preset or check Content Center connectivity to server."
I do! The video needs a redo because 2024 inventor has a differently laid out frame generator though. Your issue sounds to me like you may be missing the frame generator add in or possibly the content center parts. I'd probably do a full reinstall or Google around to see if there's a way to install content center again
@@CoryAllenOfficial I figured it out! I had the wrong directory for the content library. I found the right one and put it in, and it worked! Thanks for the reply tho!
@@aaronfeenstra1695 sweet! It's the little things 😂
@@aaronfeenstra1695 I have this problem. And how did you do it? Did you find the right path and place it? What is the right way? Could you please speak? Thanks
@@mariagoncalves4619 yes, i don't remember exactly where the files were, but I did find them. I have my license from my work basically, and was installing it at home. If you don't know whether or not you have the files, I would try to reinstall inventor. I just happened to find the right file path.
Burh, this vid's too underrated. Got me through the struggle of tinkering with constraints myself.
Sometimes just a good overview is all you need to get going! Glad it helped 😁
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you! I'm glad it helped!
Great Information
I'm glad to hear it!
AutoCAD 3D is not super friendly. No truer word I have never heard. It so frustrates me compared to SolidWorks which is what I started out with for 3D cad work.
Yeah to me AutoCAD 3D is best reserved for simple models like chairs and small mesh-like models. One day they should just pull the plug on that toolset and double down on inventor
i need the all the answers🙏🏽 is there any other channel that does all of these
Maybe! I'm not sure
It would helpful if you moved a bit slower
This video was going to be so long that I definitely had to go fast to not drag it out anymore than necessary. I now use different recording software and have key tracking and mouse highlights to make it easier to follow. Hopefully I will get to re record these down the road because I know it's darn near impossible to track some movements in the vid. Sorry about that!
How started drawing with default title block?
In your case you'd have to use the default AutoCAD template files. These are the templates we use in class at my college.
Would you please share the book? what is book name and author?
It's the technical drawing book from giseke! I'm on mobile rn but if you can't find it lmk and I'll send more info
Thank. Found it. But idk if any pdf available online. Helpful to get a copy
@@abdullahzubair86 unfortunately no PDFs online. VitalSource is a relatively cheap ebook option
can you do chapter 5 problem 8

Part 2?
Thanks Cory - not really used joints before, always been a constraint user. Your video really helped me.
Glad to hear it! I'd like to think both have their use cases. Perhaps one day joints will replace constraints as they upgrade the features
man could you please please do a walkthrough video for the chapter 4 floor plan in the 2023 edition book there is only one video and he does not complete it fully

Since I use this content for the college I am unable to give out the files just in case there's some overlap with the students. Sorry about that! I can tell you the assignment is from the Technical Drawing Book from Geisecke

Hey, When I insert new frame, it's also showing sketch of the frame at starting end. There's seems no option to disable the visibility of the sketch. How do hide the sketch?
It's definitely hide-able somewhere. I would imagine it's either hidden under "Frame reference model" or something to that avail. Usually it imports your sketch as "reference skeleton" and puts it under frame reference model.
Many parts in this exercise don't seem to be best practice. e.g. one sketch per feature, and keep sketches simple. Fillets should be added as features, not in the sketch.
The book starts simple but I agree
you save me and teach me, thank you
You're welcome!
thanks
You're welcome!
15:15 how did you set up the extrusion short cut on your screen.
Around 15:30 I did an extrusion but that's just the default ribbon with no shortcut used. Check and see if you are on the tab that has the features buttons on it
Thanks for this great Video. Quality incresed enormous.
You're welcome!
Video quality is a problem. Not legible.
Make sure to set the video quality to 1080p!
Thanks for posting, very good.
You're welcome!
Please make a video on the yellow dot disappearing (the center dot in the drawing) and how to make it reappear. Thanks!
I love your accent BTW.
Why doesn't the yellow dot show up?
Hi there, it's been some time since i recorded these. What green dot are you referring to? The yellow dot is the origin point. If yours does not show up when creating a new sketch it may be a setting, however you can always bring the dot in by using project geometry and choosing the origin point! Yellow stuff is all projected geometry FYI :) Thank you! I am from the south haha
@@CoryAllenOfficial Hi Cory, love your accent. Thank you for responding. The yellow origin point sometimes disappears while I'm creating a drawing. Are you familiar with this phenomenon? How do I get the yellow origin dot back? Thanks!!!
@@solarwinds- thank you! So you just use project geometry to project the center point back in your sketch :) it can be lost but always found again!
Hey i know this is a somewhat old video, but I'm still having a hard time doing some of these absolute units, usually on our hw it would have measurements like 2.00, but when i put them, they're inaccurate for some reason.
Hi Moji, what you explain here is relatively vague haha. It sounds to me like you are either drawing without dimensioning or you are drawing without editing dimensions. There's no real way to ensure accuracy with proper constraining and dimensioning
Hi. Try using relative once in position in ABS. Use the @3,4 format (move from current position relative x 3 units, y 4 units).
Thanks for enlightening me to expanding the Dialogue Box while making the Flange for the screw mounts. We were trying to get this portion using the Bend Command.
I didn't know about this for years myself! It's too hidden haha. Glad I could help.
Basic means for beginners that means you may slow down a bit for our beginners to follow the basics.
Thanks for the feedback
Is there anyway i can download this assembly?
Unfortunately no :( it's unethical to give it out since I teach this content at a college
Thank you for making this video
You're welcome! I hope it helped!
You know more than my professor. Thanks Professor Allen
I appreciate it! I'm still in the industry which keeps me sharp 😎
bro, are too fast such that one cant really grasp what you are doing . maybe you can do it slowly
In the settings for the video slow it down to like 0.75. I'm working to rerecord these with my new software that tracks what keys I hit but slowing it down helps until then 🙂
