The Seaport Village Redevelopment transforms San Diego's waterfront into a vibrant hub, set for completion in 2028 with a $1.6 billion investment. This was extremely informative, and that’s coming from someone who is in the industry and constantly perplexed by the moving target of ADU protocol. Thank you for taking the time to outline this. I am not surprised that an east coast person had to lay this out for everyone. I submitted drawings to convert a 12‘ x 22‘ garage space into an ADU and it has been 13 months now waiting for approval at the permitting department. I was told that the engineering department is 4 1/2 months behind schedule. Not sure where the other 7 1/2 months are being spent in their department, but the city of San Diego is a complete joke.
Yes I find permitting in San Diego to be extremely frustrating. I do my best to gain a comprehensive understanding so we can guide our clients + make designs which avoid unnecessary complications whenever possible.

This is super interesting! Is the zero-foot setback for <16ft a San Diego only rule? Can't find anything like this for Oakland, CA.
It was a rule in San Diego. It's been changed now.

Is it true the ADU must have solar ? That’s what I’m learning working for a solar company . I’m looking to partner with ADU builders .
Yes, if the main house doesn't have solar panels installed already.
In most cases yes, but not all the time.
I didn't pass my inspection because there was no Heater in my ADU. It's a small area so I'm having trouble finding a Heater that fits my place. Does anyone know if the ASHLEY Hearth Products Model #DVAG11N will pass inspection in Los Angeles CA?
