Havens Homestead Pollinator Garden – A ReWild Adventure
This presentation covers the steps involved in planning and planting a large pollinator garden as well as what we have learned about critter control, irrigation, and cooperation with the many stakeholders involved when gardening at a historic site.
Kathy Dhundale and Jean Branna are the primary gardeners at the Havens Homestead ReWild garden. Both are graduates of the Suffolk County Cornell Cooperative Extension's Master Gardener program, class of 2022.
Kathy and Jean are part of a group of master gardeners who created and/or revitalized five gardens on two Ketcham Inn Foundation sites in Center Moriches: the Ketcham Inn and the Havens Homestead. The gardens include a community vegetable garden for produce distribution to local food pantries, a kitchen garden, an all-white-flower boxwood garden with plants available at the time of George Washington, the Havens Homestead ReWild Native Garden, and flower gardens at the front of the Havens Homestead on Montauk Highway.

How can I find the eco region map that includes Mexico from the beggining?
What a great project and result! We are so happy to find your organization, and this project. We love that you are doing all of this with organic methods and you are sharing some of the pest challenges, with innovative solutions that others face as well. Great job!
A non-offensive droning voice is still a droneing voice. Static blue pages are not wild, not native, not plants. I had to hit dislike. Even as a radio broadcast this would be deadly sleep-inducing. Where's the plants!
Hi, what's that pine behind you? Oh, I appreciate your information about barberry, but one qualification: some species of berberis *are* native to some parts of the country.
Eden, you are a delightful spokesperson!
Great information, I will share this video.
1. We say that native plants adapt and do the best in our area relative to desease , pest and moisture requirements…..but if a non native becomes invasive, doesn’t that mean it is also adaptive to desease, pests and the available moisture and is thriving which is why we are told to use a native . It seems like if we plant a non native and it thrives. We are told to use a native so it has natural limits…and if we plant non native and it Doesn’t thrive, then we are told we should have used a native so it would have thrived and self propagated
Hey native adapt and are at the same time in balance with nature and don't destroy eveything around it like Garlic Mustard. Non native invasives (not all non natives are invasive), destroy the ecosystem and are dead zones for pollinators. This is a really easy fucking concept and not hard to understand.
Have you tried not being ret@rded?
Natives adapts and can be aggressive but they won't destroy eveything around it. They are essential for pollinators. Non natives that are also invasive are dead zones for pollinators and often destroy eveything around it. It's really not difficult to understand. Non invasive non natives require more maintenance, watering fertilizer, etc etc
I'm still watching!
Thank you!! I am slowly replacing my lawn one native at a time ;) I’m going to design a rain barrel system too :)
Good job!!
This was by far the best program on Native Garden Maintenance. Thank you ReWild Long Island and Anthony! Your community is so lucky to have you.
Thank you! would be more engaging if there were photos or videos of examples of topics discussed, truly appreciate the info!

Awesome love this thank you
Love this!
Thank you! How do I go about getting a space authorized to be planted in? For native plants.
I can’t wait until spring Rain barrels , rain gardens , butterflies, and sunshine!!
Thank you so so much!! I’m so glad I discovered them through their informational pdf.
Thank you so so much! More information please, you are so helpful! I’m learning so much. Thank you
My goal is to be more responsible as we are leaving future generations a mess.
Really excellent advice! Well put together. Have personally applied the same approach which excludes all bark mulches. Weed germination dramatically reduced over the 3 to 5 yr development of a micro prairie up in SW New Hampshire, by chopping up, then spreading all the grasses.
Great video🎥👍
this was the best list and information ever, thank you!!!
This was great!
Thank you for Sharing🫶
Thank you for your videos! Can you share some of the research articles you are referencing. Thank you.
