Howdy! Travis is my name, and preserving & documenting history is my game! I get paid to play on steam locomotives, and I’m also a riverboat enthusiast and trained storm spotter. Most of the videos you see here (which are branded under the name “Georgian Rail & River Productions”) are going to focus on railroad operations, historic preservation, and the occasional riverboat video.

Southern Railway No. 630: Our Historical Heritage, Episode 11
In this episode of Our Historical Heritage, we explore the history and operations of the Southern Railway steam locomotive No. 630.
This episode is very special, because it is the first fully filmed and "live action" episode of this series, featuring interviews with several people onscreen, along with myself doing the on screen narration. I hope you enjoy this episode, as many hours of work went into its production.
I'd like to thank my friends Kevin Gilliam, Jason Fields, Ryan Miller, Brian Hunt, Andrew Durden and Zach Langley for helping make this project possible, and I'm hoping this opens the door for similarly styled videos for this podcast series in the future!

Over the weekend of March 23rd and 24th, the Tennessee Valley Railroad began steam operations for the year by rolling out their 1904 built consolidation No. 630. Still decked out in its late 1970's steam program look, the engine puts on a fine show running back and forth on the museum's mainline.

Spent a couple of days doing something I don't really have time to do anymore, and that is go sit by the tracks and just watch some trains. I only shot video of two of the trains I saw, those being a northbound CSX empty coal train at Resaca, and a northbound mixed M280 at Ringgold. Hope y'all enjoy!

Ya. Why restore an actual historic American engine when you can let it rust away ir get scrapped while you buy a Chinese engine. Thats the American way
@@kirkstinson7316 A lot of the reasoning was from an economic standpoint as well. The thought was “why spend $1 million plus on a tired American engine that could take years to restore, or spend the same on a brand new locomotive that’s ready to run essentially after being unloaded from a ship.” While I’d rather see American engines restored as well, working in this business, I also understand why some companies chose to purchase new engines from overseas.

120 Years Old. I know that this engine has been rebuilt and modernized countless times, but the same basic underpinnings are there. The fact that true heavier than air aircraft existed for less than year when 630 was built is maddening

1877 is an “eastern dome” and has a lower profile, which allows it to fit through the tunnel.

@@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyan It’s not an original. It was made for 4501 in the Birmingham Steam Shops in the late 70’s or early 80’s to get the Princeton off the engine, as the machinist there hated that whistle.

Excellent video Travis! I'd love to come up there to film these trains, only thing is I don't know their operation schedule. Do you know what days they operate and from where they usually start from?
They typically start around LaFayette or Rock Spring most days. They run Monday through Friday, and go to Chattanooga for interchange on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
