May I ask if there were any dead notes on your MD60BG when you bought it? I really am wanting to buy this guitar, but there are none that are being carried at any of my local guitar shops. Every single Alvarez that I have played that ARE offered in the stores here have dead notes. There is also a youtube short from a guy that shows his MD60BG with dead notes all over the fret board and he calls this guitar garbage out of the box. Thank you for posting this video...

Gorgeous! I would have liked to hear it strummed. I’m looking for something I can open tune and kind of play it hard. I have a ‘92 Taylor 812ce and a ‘96 (?) Martin DM-1 The Taylor Is so bright, and the Martin is kindOf deep. I have the opportunity to buy one of these, but I’m afraid it sounds too much like the Taylor.

Yea bro I bought 10 pkg D'Addario BG strings, and they seem to die quickly, not break, but start sounding dull.

I own this exact model ofguitar. Same weird open top tuners and the black label. Mine says Republic of China made in Taiwan. I got one in 2020 online for $170 at auction and I am so glad I got it. It had old rusty strings. They sounded alright actualy, but I put on it Earthtones Rock and Blues Ernie Ball strings. They sound great. It just immediately impresses with its powerful resonating sound which none of my under $300 guitars have. Mine must have been used a lot as it has small wear and tear but everything very minor so the owner must have taken care of it. They are made in the early or mid 1970s. If you own one guitar like this I highly recommend some of the lower sounding open D tunings. Especially the one with CACGCE tuning (called Open C6 tuning). It is used in Led Zeppelin song Friends, for example. The lower strings make this guitar resonate so nicely.

I think they're very nicely made with a big deep sound- really impressive for an all-laminate guitar. I'd caution folks who are considering one to check out the action- if it needs a neck reset that's going to cost around $300- which is really about the upper end of what an FG-160 is worth in the first place.

I have the tan color Fg 160 Yamaha it was made back in 1973. My old guitar has a great rich deep sound but,, I’m only can play it for 20 minutes for it burns my fingers and I have been playing my Gibson J45. For the last 21 years. The point I’m making is the Yamaha FG 160 probably needs some adjustment Because I really would like to play it longer than 20 minutes out with the band

My all original 1974 FG-160 with tan label says Nippon Gakki, Hamamatsu, Japan and uncommon 5 digit serial number. Has good full bass and plenty of mids. Needed no repairs when I got it recently. I had to choose between this FG-160 Jumbo for less than $200 from a private seller and 1970 FG-110 OM style priced at $795 from a dealer.

Just bought one of these $429.00 . Your right! Guild has wired these little monsters right another the bracing has been scalloped enough and placed in the right places . Just wondering what kind strings have founded that sound the best . It’s sounds great with these super old strings that were on it . Try Ed a lot of guilds and didn’t like most of them . This one definitely a keeper til the next diamond catches my ear. Hey man thanks a lot for your most helpful reviews.

That’s usually my problem after about a month or so my ears start saying just ok. Tell me what you think now about this guild if you still have. Thanks Jeff Clark from Rockdale Texas

Great video and very nice sound demo. Below are all the specs on this guitar, straight from Alvarez: And I have made a couple videos on this guitar too and can very highly recommend it. The materials used are AAA solid Sitka Spruce top and solid African Mahogany back and sides, with a mahogany neck. The MD70BG has solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides. The bridge and fret board are made from Indian Laurel (for the newer guitars and rosewood for older builds {mine is about 5 years old and has rosewood}). Also has a bone saddle and nut. The neck to body joint is a dovetail joint with wood glue and not epoxy. I had a few comments on my video trying to say they use epoxy to glue the guitar together. No, they use wood glue throughout it's construction. And this information came straight from Alvarez, as I contacted them for clarity on this. To me, this guitar sounds more like a Gibson J45 than a Martin D-18. I'm not sure why but it does, at least to my ears. But that's not a bad thing. To me, this guitar sounds like a guitar you would spend triple for, or more. So if you are looking for a quality, all solid wood guitar, and can't afford a Gibson, Martin or Taylor, you need to check this brand out. Recording King is another great guitar if you want the Martin sound. I also have one of these (Recording King RD-328 solid Adirondack Spruce top {that's over 40 years old before it was used to build the guitar} and solid East Indian Rosewood back and sides). Just be aware that Alvarez makes cheaper guitars, around the $200.00 to $400.00 range, that are not all solid wood. These guitars still sound good, they just don't sound like an all solid wood guitar does. Sorry for the long comment. I think you did a phenomenal job of showing this guitar off and giving a high quality sound demo.

I bought a 1973 FG-160 tan label last year from a local seller to restore and resell. After I cleaned it and had it set up, I decided to keep it. I fell in love with the sound so much that I didn’t want to part with it. It has such a unique tone and resonates like crazy. By the serial number, it’ll turn 50 years old next week and it still looks and plays fantastic. Glad I found it. It’s a keeper for sure.
