Heretic was so underrated

THIS DIRECTOR IS GOOD AT CREATING INTERESTING VISUAL DESIGNS...BUT THAT'S WHERE IT STOPS. THE STORY TELLING HOWEVER...LACKS. THE MOVIE FEELS THAT IT STARTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORY, AND THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS AND THEIR FATE. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH BACKGROUND OR CHANCE TO GET TO KNOW ALL OF THESE PEOPLE. THERE WAS SOME GOOD ACTING BUT IT FELT IRRELEVANT PRECISELY BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GET TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS. THE CREATURE LOOKED TOO OVERLY DONE ON MAKE UP EFFECTS, RUBBERY...AND THEN THERE IS THE FINAL PRODUCT....HE LOOKED LIKE A GUY THAT WOULD WORK AS A CAR MECHANIC. NOT SCARY. I DID ENJOY DRACULA'S VOICE AND USE OF THE ROMANIAN LANGUAGE. THE GYPSIES LOOKED GREAT BUT THEIR PART WAS MADE INNEFECTIVE. THE NAKED GIRL ON A HORSE WAS SILLY AND SO WAS WILLEM DEFOE'S ACTING.

Happy New Year! I love your video so much and wanted to ask if you could talk about the A Nightmare on Elm Street movies?

The standouts for me were definitely Smile 2, Heretic and Alien Romulus. Naomi Scott blew me away in Smile 2, so unexpected and performance of the year in my opinion. Oscar worthy for sure (not that I at all expect a horror movie getting that Oscar). Maybe an unpopular opinion but Terrifier 3 really didn't do it for me. It dragged on for way too long and it felt a little like they were out of ideas for kills, a lot of rehashing what we'd already seen from Art. Maybe I just watched the three movies too closely together and felt burned out with Art 🤷 There are far too many on this list that I still need to watch. A Quiet Place: Day One I've been meaning to watch for too long and your ranking here might push me to that, so thanks! As well as The Substance which for some reason I've been sleeping on. Some other movies I watched recently that didn't release this year, but stood out for me: The Final Girls - really fun slasher comedy movie with Taissa Farmiga (a favourite) and Malin Akerman. I just had a lot of fun with this one and it also has some really heartfelt moments that really got me. Would love to hear your thoughts on this one. Bokeh - a weird one, super slow burn but I went on a Maika Monroe binge because she's a favourite. Hugely underrated movie in my opinion but also understandable if you go in expecting something more stereotypical and flashy. Follows a couple on vacation who wake up to find everyone else on Earth has disappeared, but definitely not your normal apocalyptic survival movie. Anyway I'm done rambling on, Happy New Year and thanks for all the great reviews! ❤

RomCom’s aren’t my go to type of movie to watch if I had to choose. Immaculate kinda disappointed me because I thought it was a supernatural demonic type of movie, but ended up with some Frankenstein type of scientific priest pretending to be God. It wasn’t a total loss since Sydney Sweeney was in it 🥰 A Violent Nature is one I haven’t seen yet. Something I can watch to bring in the New Year. Art the Clown in Terrifier 3 was something I never miss. Another goodie for me is Alien Romulus 👍🏻 I know you are into horror movies, but no Marvel movie…Deadpool and Wolverine? There is some bands I need to check out from this video. It was nice to get one from Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace with the exciting return of Adam plus a new song Mayday, 10 years came out with an EP, The Offspring with their new album and the epic return of Linkin' Park, Seether with a few new songs of their now out album! Where to begin, agree with Hybrid Theory and Meteora but Minutes to Midnight is probably their 3rd best album as it was when they were beginning to refine their sound slightly and consequentially some of their album filler wasn't as good as with the previous two albums but it has a lot of solid songs and Given Up is easily amongst their very best songs which really elevates the album, The Hunting Party is probably and quite controversially their 4th best album as it was getting back to the heavier stuff that had been lacking a little since the first few albums and generally heavier than the previous albums however it varied considerably from their iconic sound without any real need for scratching and wasn't really marketed as well as previous albums, but From Zero is easily the single worst album as it is comparable to One More Light as with One More Light we saw an album that was missing one of its key elements as it was very Mike lite and probably the softest most melodic of their albums and again with From Zero we saw an album that was missing key elements being that LP had lost Chester and Rob and in that regard was similar to One More Light but as much as they have tried building a nostalgic impression through sampling from their old songs that their sound is still similar its really not that similar and its just not as good with their new vocalist Emily not that she is a bad vocalist but for the most part it feels like an album of filler where they had lost their passion and almost everything is hit and miss.

HT and Meteora GOAT no question. HT gave us the Linkin Park sound and Meteora refined the sound. MTM was when I began to loose interest honestly. Some great songs just with the production was better. Like What I've Done should have had heavier guitars. It doesn't quite get there. Same with Bleed it Out just doesn't get there, builds but no climax. ATS not that interested, the sound changed and didn't do it for me. Living Thing same not for me. The Hunting Party was where they started to win me back. It had been so long and was nice to hear guitars, heavy guitars back. Then One More Light which was a disappointment. From the promise of more rock and we got pop. Sounds that were popular then. One More Light was a good song. Taking what happened aside it just wasn't what was needed musically. I haven't listened to From Zero in its entirety but what I've heard so far I'm liking it. Not GOAT status but 100% a damn good time. The new era is looking good so far. Every album has at least one great song just as the albums when on. The great songs became less and less to the point most tracks are skipped. Not the sign of a good album. For me Hybrid Theory and Meteora are outstanding and always will be.

One of my favorite albums to come out this year was Make them Suffer's self-titled album. It's just fun metalcore that just kicks your ass for like 40 minutes straight. Also Blessthefall quietly released an absolute banger with Alpha Wolf called drag me under. My favorite song to come out this year though has got to be Pulling Teeth by House of Protection

I liked your review. I’m a slow burn fan. I mean, heck, I liked Werner Herzog’s 1979 take on it and his filmmaking can be like molasses running uphill in dead winter. So, I can’t wait to see it, you’re well versed, you talk fast and you’re cute AF. I’m going to subscribe. 🙀

Why did the movie have characters with non German accents, with the movie taking place in Germany ?

Just such a pity its being compared with Murnaus (and to an extent Herzogs) Nosferatu. Eggers has completely changed the entire plot, which would never have worked in the original. Completely changed the characters, and their purposes. Generally made any story event considerably less believeable and woefully over complicated compared with the original, whilst removing the rather poignant beauty of the original. Just the original plot worked so beautifully and everything followed well and was believable (up to the vampire bit). Lucy's connection, why Johnathon went in the first place, her connection, the vampires defeat and how it worked. Eggers really had nothing to do with murnaus Nosferatu, being considerably more akin to stokers, which of course murnau tried to change, just not enough. Murnau's masterpiece, (cinematography aside) makes Eggers version look like it was written and produced by a 14 year old.

I actually felt it was a tad too rushed, especially with the stuff around the plague. I wanted an extra 15-20 mins in the latter half showing the effect of the plague on the people. That was my favorite part of Herzog's version.

I imagine this movie will win an Oscar.

I blame the marketing. They have heavily promoted to the general audiences, and released at Christmas, an arty film inspired by a 100 year old silent film set in the 19th century. So they may pull off making it a blockbuster but some are bound to be confused and disappointed because of expectations and being lured to a movie they wouldn't normally go see.

Well one thing's for sure. It's a thousand times better than that piece of crap. Last voyage of the Demeter people say it's boring but if it tells a good story, it's not boring. Nosferatu was not meant to be Terminator 2 judgment Day for f*** sakes people are nuts

He is here! What an exceptional work of a classic legendary story retold and incredibly performed. Nothing short of phenomenal & a new horror masterpiece in cinematic folklore. Robert Eggers delivers once again. No surprise. An adventure so tense and chilling to the core, staying with you & holding you tightly. Worth the wait & absolutely revisiting, many times again. P.S Did you get that Nosferatu popcorn bucket?😄🍿

Nosferatu is a major upgrade to the original one from 1922 which of course was black and white and silent 🤫 I hear that this movie could be a contender for the Oscars 🏆next year. Given it already centers on twins, I initially assumed Ivan had a twin and I missed something 😂 The nice thing about watching at home is that you can pause the movie and take a jaunt to imdb, I would have remained very confused otherwise
