Really beautiful!!!
Is this soluble in turpentine? I’d like to use it at a varnish for an oil painting.
why did you play music over it?
Composition please
Do you still sell charcoal?
Excellent video. Your not making videos any more ?
wonderful video .thank you
Beautiful what is the comp?
You have your screens sizes mixed up in the video. you capped off your 40 screened charcoal in the small 1/2 liter container and were about to put the 60 screen on the 20 again.
We are manufacturer of abrasives using phenolic resin but so many of our resin become very hard so it's not in useable condition new. Please help me how can I make it liquid again?
Alcohol
Hello kromair22; that´s a nice idea for charcoal crushing. As I am regularly processing larger amounts of charcoal by hand, I wonder how durable your setup is. I figure those waste disposers are not really designed for this type of "waste"; any experiences about the lifetime of such a setup? Any min HP you would recommend? I saw that these crushers are not that cheap... Great screen idea as well. A warm thank you for any help! Keep up the good work. Admiral
man just ball mill that stuff
Ah yes, my friend from Canada, Rafael
Great video. Got some Paulonia seeds germinating right now. Cant wait to make some large batches in a few years. Was the wood you show in this video still green or had it dried for some time?
he said it was green
Any formation about melamine formaldhide resin ??or videos
excellent setup.
This may be a dumb question but can you press this into charcoal bricks like you grill with and use them to cook?
NOOO!!!!! HOW DARE YOU!!! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WASTE THIS?!!?!?!? ITS ONE OF THE BEST CHARCOALS IN THE WORLD FOR BLACK POWDER!!!!!!!
Ha! Just made a small batch of Paulownia charcoal in a 5 gal metal DIY retort. Put it in a 55 gal drum surronded with dry Sassafras followed with dry Black Locust and Cherry branches. The Paulownia was a little moist, it made a good amount of steam at first. Cooked for about two hrs. Came out perfect! Sure beats buying Balsa at the hobby store! What was I thinking!!
Chris Barth glad it all works out for you. Let me know how it performs for you.
Chris Barth I also understand the locust is good to make charcoal too.
I figured Black Locust was too dense? Very hard wood! It's it good for certain types of BP? Does burn very hot as firewood, IIRC, it rivals anthracite coal! Ever heard of sassafras being used? Just seems like a good wood for BP charcoal. BTW, have you ever been to the MAFF(mid Atlantic fireworks festival)? Few years ago I went there on a whim since it wasn't too far from where I live. Holy s#!t, did not expect an "amateur" fireworks show like that, man, what a surprise! I was amazed at the hobby after that, built my own DIY ball mill, read up on the BP process and successfully made small batches. Just never got beyond simple stuff, only made small paper shells that go boom. Lol, you wouldn't believe my fuse lighting method, it combines one of my other hobbies, lasers. I use a very high power handheld lasers in mag light body (1W for 405NM, 6W for 445NM). I build them myself from diodes harvested from Blu-ray burners and DLP projectors. They can ignite a fuse from 30-40' away! Have to stay very still though. It will even instantly ignite straight thermite from a distance which is very hard to do without some sort of "helper" (flash powder, magnesium strip, etc.) even a propane torch won't work.
Nice videos! I've made my own BP from DIY balsa charcoal but never thought of using Paulownia. Just so happens I have a ton of it growing on my property here in Calvert County MD. Very fast growing tree, I had one grow over 30' in just two yrs. Got about a dozen big trees, 12"-15" wide, maybe 75' high I also build RC planes, heard Paulownia is slightly heavier than balsa but much stronger, almost as strong as spruce. Will have to try it out for both black powder and critical structural parts on my planes.
Good you have them growing there. You will find the balsa makes a faster bp, however the gas production limits it uses. Paulownias makes for a very fast powder too but much more gasses for better lift and break.
The gas produced from balsa is much less than paulownia. Both burn simmmilarly fast. Glad to hear you have an abundance available to you!
Yes, from a strength to weight ratio, paulownia fits the bill for many construction applications
awesome!! I will try it :D
Hi! How many hours does someone needs to wait before we can say the charcoal is done? Thanks!
Dionne Alabas it depends on how dry the wood is when you start and the way it is cut up. Mine takes 2-2.5 hours.
When destilation smoke stop then its done !
Ever planned of doing this for Sydney or Hobart
What do you use the powder charcoal for? Is this the same as biochar?
no
nice video , thanks for sharing , 1. how old is the paulownia? 2. how much charcoal you can get of a tree? 3. and if you grow paulownia for charcoal, what's the best spacing?
hey Scott. thanks for the comment. I have to be honest, I am not even close to being the first guy to put this contraption together. However if you would like to see something that is my original product designed and made by me you should check out Www.pyroshaker.net. I have more videos there too. yeh, the kitchen tools and appliances are always in jeopardy of being confiscated for Hobby uses. lol
I'm surprised no one commented yet! That's pretty cool! I showed my wife this and and now she's pretty wary about all the kitchen appliances now LOL. You ought to patent that!
are you going to sell any of it
sorry for the late responce. I just saw this notification. Yes, I am selling charcoal. If you are interested in purchasing some you can send an e-mail to bobby@pyroshaker.com
hi i really like your video..... :}) i normally buy my chemical from www.skylighter.com but i"m going to try the website www.pyrochemsource.com. PEEK UP WITH THE GOOD WORK BUDDY THANKS!!!!

***** Thanks. I have some adjustments to make. The next one will be better.

Great hit Nick! We need lots more of those this Spring! Ty Smith
Please can you tell me, where to get phenolic resin?
great video. can you please tell me how to cure phenolic resin, that would be most helpful and thank you
I am not sure what you mean by cure. The resin comes in large chunks and is crushed and milled to a powder, and added to a composition. Denatured alcohol is used as a solvent to soften the resin in the composition for it to become a binder, and it also gives fuel value to the composition. Hope some how that answers your question.
I meant how can you turn it into plastic as beads or blocks. thank you
I would think this particular resin is not what you want for that application. It is far to soft and fractures easily when in a solid state. There are many types of resins better suited for your needs.
@@kromair22 It's very difficult to me for collect phenolic resin, please tell in what grocery or electric devices I can collect this without ordering
@@kromair22Hello! I’m currently conducting a thesis and I would like to ask what is the ratio between the phenolic resin and the denatured alcohol? It would be a huge help if you would answer. Thank you so much!
wow, that is action!:) mega!
Outstanding!!!! Im at home recovering this year so it's great to see some of the fun you all are having this year.
For the record it was 2,000 2.5" salutes... had the great privilege of helping set it up and tearing it down.
