WV Waterfalls Trail - Mill Creek Falls at Hawks Nest
This is my fourth video on the West Virginia Waterfalls Trail and today I'm at Mill Creek Falls at Hawks Nest, West Virginia. To get to the falls you'll walk along the incredibly scenic Hawks Nest Rail Trail. It's just under a mile to get to the falls and the trail is well maintained with points of interest including a wooden bridge, huge limestone cliffs, and gorgeous views along Mill Creek.
If you own a VR headset, like the Meta Quest 2 or 3, and would like to see a 3D, immersive video of this location; visit my channel on DeoVR:

If you don't own a VR headset, you can still view the video and tap, or click, and drag to pan around the view.
I'm going to be visiting each waterfall on the WV Waterfalls Trail and sharing videos of them as I do. I hope you'll subscribe and check them all out.

Another major update is coming in December 2024 for the Calf-Visinse, VR180 camera. We aren't sure yet how it will be implemented, but there will be some level of exposure compensation capabilities added via firmware update very soon. This will really round out this camera and give us the control and quality that we hoped for when it first became available for purchase. Check out my DeoVR chann...

way to much work just so i can fly in my house.
Drones are over-regulated.
I returned my insta360 x4 today. I am not going to get a new phone to use a camera. With the money I spend on a phone and camera I can easily buy a blackmagic. these Chinese companies need to stop trying to get into our phones.
Agreed.
There is a fun hike at Gauley Bridge going up to Blue Hole tunnel that was abandoned in 1906, even has a waterfall that goes over top it
Brother, I kid you not... you have enough historical knowledge of this area to run a UA-cam channel exclusively on that. That's awesome, I'll have to check it out... when the weather decides to become friendly again, of course. ;) Hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving!
Hi if i was to get davinci resolve 19 pro and pay for the full version would i need to do all of this . your work flow if very good . and i have subscribe to your channel , i am just about to get the Calf gen 2 and was looking for a quick one stop shop workflow . would the full version of davinci pro 19 solve this .many thanks Scott
Great question and thanks for subscribing to my channel! Yes, getting the pro version of Davinci Resolve would mean that you can handle all of these tasks (color grading, trimming, combining, and adding music) in one place and still export at 8k resolution. It's definitely the way to go if you don't mind paying the price for it (and it is a great value, IMO). These steps are just for folks who want more control and flexibility while only using free tools. Oh, and Hugh Hou has tutorials on how to get even more out of Davinci Resolve like adding text and titles to immersive content. Plus you can take advantage of all of the video transitions that DR has to offer too. Take care and good luck!
@@WildWonderfulWeekends Hi thanks for the Quick reply , I also Subscribe to Hugh Hou as well i can learn so much from your videos and his , they are great from both of you . thanks for all the help. I did have an insta 360 x4 but i found the 8K content was a lot sharper on the Calf Gen 2 i had upload the test video from Hugh Hou site and played it back on my apple vision pro . it was very good quality and i dont think that copy was even the 8k version but i was impressed with the Calf gen 2 so much i have just ordered it today . i will look at more of you content to learn more many thanks Scott .
@@scottmarshall9034 Wow, thanks so much for that very kind feedback, my friend. I am enjoying my Calf gen 2 and I've even been monetized on DeoVR... which is a really cool platform for posting immersive content, if you would like to check it out. I believe you will like the camera very much. It has its limitations, of course, BUT Calf is keeping their word and making some really important firmware upgrades. In December we're supposed to get an update that will give us some exposure control. Once that's in place, I believe we'll have a very good camera, especially at this price point. I subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to seeing what you capture with your camera. Take care!

My pleasure! For what it's worth, I now use DeoVR to post 360 and VR180 content because it doesn't rely on metadata to display content correctly. That'd be great but honestly according to me the number one priority to fix is the out of sync audio and the image stuttering. Those two major flaws being fixed and it'd be the best vr camera so far for its price range.
Wow, yes... that would definitely be a deal breaker. I can't remember if I had asked you this before, but have you talked to support about getting a refund or trading cameras?
@@WildWonderfulWeekends No, why would I? I've got an insta360 evo and if it was not for this stuttering and the audio sync problem the Visinse is way better on many levels, so I just hope that they'll fix all that, asap.
@@vincentculleydavison2763 Yeah, I know what ya mean. I was very disappointed in the Visinse when I first got it, but I figured I would hang on to see if the firmware updates brought it up to where it should be. I'm glad I did. But... I'm not sure I would be able to hold my peace if none of the updates had cured the stuttering images and out of sync audio.
@ Exactly. This product is interesting since there's a lot of room for improvement. If they stick to their updates plan (an to their current price point) that should lead to the best consumer-friendly vr180 cam in a few months from now... Fingers crossed!

Thanks, my friend!!
I bought an X3 today and I haven't been able to activate it. I was told the same thing at the beginning, try another device, change the language etc. It activated once on my Samsung tablet, but then it didn't activate again and the message "can't activate" came back. Tech Support gave up and told me they couldn't help me, to ask for a refund where I bought it. I can't help but suspect that they don't care because I don't live in a first world country.
That is certainly poor customer service. I believe the next time I buy a 360 camera (if I buy a 360 camera) it will be from a different company. They have competition now (QooCam, for instance) and I will support them. Insta360 needs to do better. What's worse, is it's becoming normal for companies to deliver a half-baked product and only improve via firmware updates when customer's complain enough. I wish you luck, getting your camera activated! Hopefully a friend or family member will have a device that will magically work. My daughter recently bought an x3 and we tried her devices, my phone, and my wife's phone and it wouldn't activate. Finally, it worked on my son's Motorolla.

Would it be possible to have you demonstrate the external storage option instead of TFT or internal memory - or hasn't that been implemented yet?
Good suggestions... so far the only storage I really use is my micro SD card. I find it most convenient since it has plenty of storage capacity vs battery life of the camera. One day I plan to demo the live-streaming capabilities of the camera and also how it performs connected to a power supply.
Excellent video with lots of useful info... Can I suggest when you do the intro, not to have your laptop so close to the mic? We can hear the fan on the laptop churning away and it adds a lot of background noise
Great advice, thanks!

This is a great start but something crucial it's missing is how much money to set aside for taxes. Is there a place you'd recommend adding that? There federal tax and state tax that needs to be calculated into this sheet for profitability. I'm hesitant to buy this sheet with out a tax section. I know based on my state and federal self employment tax that this needs to be in my records.
Hi, thanks for this video. Do you think I would I be able to batch the ffmpeg process by writing the code as follows and also use 60 fps? ffmpeg -i *.mp4 -filter:v fps=60 *_60fps.mp4
Something went wrong Sorry... Requested page doesn't exist. Update deovr link so i will watch the videos after update
Thanks! I updated the link, it should work now.
This powerbank is rated 15w max output power yet it has 6 output port(a single port 20w is needed to charge my ipad mini). Amazon page also does not reveal crucial information on the power bank such as rated capacity or Watt Hour. 36000mah means nothing without the given voltage. This feels very unreliable and I don't think people who buy this type of equipment wants that
Make your own decision about what you purchase, that's always a good idea. As for assuming what others want... I like mine, and I would assume others would want it. :)
@@WildWonderfulWeekends customers are not legally protected because the 36000mah is not a proper measurement. They can say they tested the device under low voltage so it is 36000mah (mah amount changes depending on how much voltage it is outputting), the real measurement of capacity is by watt hour(wh), which is voltage(v) × ampere (mah)/1000. They did not give the tested voltage(v), hence the capacity is not actually measurable
Have you tested the efficiency of the solar panel? And also how's the efficiency to turn stored up power into electricity? Solar panel powerbank is usually bad at both the solar power part and the powerbank part due to lack of space
I'm not sure what you mean by "lack of space"... do you mean capacity? And what metric are you interested in for "efficiency"? Time to charge the unit vs time to charge a device with the unit? It charges my drone, cameras, phone, and flashlight in, what I would consider... as a layperson and not a solar/electrical engineer... a reasonable time. As I said in my video, it's best to charge the unit at home via an outlet and use the solar panel to extend the life of the unit's charge. Relying on the solar panel, alone, to charge the unit would take a long time.
@WildWonderfulWeekends lack of space as in tightly packed, since it need to fit both the battery and the panels, it usually compromise on the efficiency of both tools. Now what I mean by efficiency is that even if you put 36000mah into the battery, not all of them comes back out due to conversion. Average good powerbank has 70% conversion rate, meaning around 25000mah of total energy will actually be delivered to the device plugged in, but some low quality ones may have 40% only and waste a lot of power. The solar panel is basically useless as the max wattage it gives is 1.5w.
How's the audio and the chromatic abberation? Especially At the edges, quality is bad from what I saw earlier. I actually hope they'll keep it at that "pre-order" price.
I would definitely like to see the price remain the same as well. As far as audio goes, I use a Rode Wireless MEs and it works well with this camera. It's internal mic is pretty crappy and from what I'm reading from others, this update didn't help that in any way. I haven't actually gotten to check out the camera's performance since the update. I am going to be going on vacation tomorrow and I'll be shooting a lot with it while I'm at the beach so I will be sharing examples and thoughts very soon, including audio examples with, and without, the external Rode mic. I hope you stick around for that. Take care!
Thanks for good information. I also have a calf visinse and update it. Color profile changed smooth contrast is good. Now we can see dark and bright parts without editing. And we can choose several options fps,4,6,7,8k. However I noticed even change the option , file size all same as bitrate. Different resolution make that change the details, however change the fps movies clips doesn’t have a additional frames. Please check it. And it shows clearly buffering when something move quickly. I recommend to take vr movies from calf visinse ( 30mbps 30fps 7680*3840 (8K))
why 30 mbs???
@@francoispierretremblay4784when I saw the all of samples 25Mbps~100Mbps on quest3, 7k 25Mbps sample was not so good. Some pixels have not enough information, so it makes mosaic. However over 30Mbps sample has less mosaic and not too different than 100Mbps sample. With my eyes it looks same. Maybe image sensor has limited expressiveness. And when I use internal storage and take vr video with over 30Mbps setting, it has little bit buffering . You can check other people’s youtube vr movies.
Thanks for that info! I haven't tried out the new firmware update yet, I am going on vacation for a few days and plan on checking it out then. I will definitely pay attention to file size and buffering. Take care!
Thanks for keeping us updated. I was almost checking daily for reviews of this cam. Any idea why they changed their website to say “pre-order”? I will be going to Thailand in a few weeks and was on the fence if I should buy this for the trip. I still have my insta360 evo and wasn’t convinced this was worth the upgrade yet. Any comment? Looking forward to seeing any of your new vids after the update. Thx again!
Thanks for watching my video! I'm not sure why Calf has changed the wording on their website back to "pre-order" but it looks like they've extended the period of time this camera can be purchased at the reduced cost of $699 as well. So that begs the question, "is this camera worth it at that price point?" For me, that is a resounding yes, but mainly because I'm so into the idea of capturing immersive video of some of the places I travel to, in and out of my state. With the workflow I've started using... ua-cam.com/video/w_A-1VlR7ko/v-deo.html I'm getting very satisfactory results from this camera. Now that it has more flexibility (WB and different frame rates / resolutions) I expect I'll enjoy it even more. I'm also going to experiment with ShotCut for editing my VR180 and 360 videos, which should make the whole process even easier. So, if it was me, knowing what I know now... yes, I would buy this camera. I hope that helps! I'm going to subscribe to your channel and I look forward to seeing what you record in Thailand. Take care!
I’ve used the exif fixer, and it still doesn’t show. Tried to upload from iPhone, iPad and computer. Even added fake camera data like the Ricoh Theta S as that used to work. IS it the size? Years ago I uploaded without issue but facebook had size rules of 6000x3000 pixels. But now their doc says minimum of 30000 pixels in one aspect direction, but no more than 135,000,000 pixels total. But that wouldn’t make sense as if one side horizontal was 30k, the vertical would need to be 5k pixels in order to stay under that 135m. Thoughts or any help would be appreciated.
I understand your frustration... recently I too have had trouble posting on FB and even UA-cam when it comes to 360 and VR180 content. In fact, I'm pretty much using DeoVR for all immersive content now and just sharing links to it on Facebook. At first, that probably doesn't sound like a good solution but if you check out DeoVR I believe you will really like it. It's purpose-built for hosting 360 and VR180 content and does it so much better than FB or even UA-cam. If you do check it out, have a look at my channel there and say hello. deovr.com/channel/wildwonderfulweekends

Amazing! Appreciate the updates. Looking forward to test out the new settings.
Thanks for sticking around! I'm looking forward to checking these new features out too. I hope they deliver.
Before i pay, i asked about manual ajustments of ISO or other stuff they say this: "The Gen2 camera does not allow for manual adjustments, but it will offer multi-scene modes such as indoor or outdoor environments in a future firmware update. The Gen2 camera was designed to make it easier for customers to use the camera." But looking on footage... i doubt its a software problem... you cant solve some of hardware limitations. The only thing is if they can do improvements on post production or on export footage using AI stuff like Topaz do to get better image quality. IMO It was a dick move from marketing team. Probably, they expect that a lot of users will buy this cheap camera so they can loot more money to go one... Hard to say. So i decided to not bother. IMO they still has a lot of calf 1 already so there is no point to sell same camera by quality but with cheaper price.
Very wise moves on your part, my friend, and I agree... Calf has really revealed themselves to be a pretty shady company. BUT, if you are still interested in this camera, I have put together a workflow that is allowing me to get much better video quality in my final output than what I'm getting straight of camera. If you would like to have a look at it then decide if it's acceptable workaround until Calf does something to improve this camera, here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/w_A-1VlR7ko/v-deo.html

Hi, how did you manage to upload this video in 8k format? I have the same camera insta360 x4 but when shooting a video in 8k format and when uploading the video to UA-cam the highest number is 4k. I tried a lot through the Studio program on the PC but I did not succeed 😅
Yes... it is very frustrating. I experienced the same problem. After I uploaded this video it was only available up to 4K for about 5 days then, finally, UA-cam recognized it as 8K. So it appears the only thing we can do on UA-cam is wait. BUT, I now post my immersive content to DeoVR. It is way ahead of UA-cam when it comes to hosting 360 and VR180 content. Thank you my friend! Much appreciated.
Also I should’ve started my last comment with: THANK YOU, this was a solid, honest review. (I liked AND subscribed). I wanted to ask how are you viewing the pics and videos in the Quest because the native “meta tv” player makes the pictures look horribly pixelated for some reason. Viewing in Skybox and or Pigasus they look measurably better. Time of day is important as well. Recording at the brightest time of the day gave me better photos/videos (but wants to shoot at high noon everyday??) We need exposure control or better dynamic range like the GoPro /Insta360 cams or atleast a better flat color profile. Thanks again. I appreciate your insight.
Thank you for the kind feedback, my friend. Very much appreciated. I just responded to your other comment without realizing you had made this one as well. But yes, definitely check out DeoVR. It is like UA-cam but you can also view your locally saved files as well. Plus there is a lot of control over how the videos / photos are displayed and it performs faster and smoother than Meta TV. I put a link to my latest video in my other comment response. I talk about DeoVR there and also go over my (admittedly lengthy but effective) workflow for getting the most out of the Calf-Visinse... until they correct some of the problems with this camera.
Wow, Hugh has given us YEARS of great info, reviews and tutorials and people turned on him so quick (not you). The first words out of his mouth were “this isn’t a review”. And it was HUGH who FIRST told us this camera is 7.2k even though the box said 8. People heard what they wanted to hear. Me included. A vr cam at a great price that does in camera stitching… Hugh listed the negatives and we saw the footage…and we still bought. (And for the record I bought TWO of these cameras so I hope and pray they do what they said they would.)
Very good points! It seems volatility is high these days, especially when it comes to this camera. I think you're spot on about people hearing what they wanted to, me included. I was really excited about a VR180 cam in my price range. A couple things I've learned over the last couple weeks with this camera though... DeoVR is way better at hosting immersive content than UA-cam. AND you can edit, and export, VR180 footage using Insta360 Studio. This is super helpful if for nothing more than adjusting white balance (which the Calf-Visinse is terrible at getting right). On my Visinse camera the convergence is off. I took a picture of my self and I'm seeing double. I'm really disapponted with this camera. The picture quality is trash. I wish I spent the money and saved up for the Canon R5 Mark 2 with the dual fish eye lens.
I know exactly what you mean. It's one thing to have the "typical" problems that folks are noticing in these cameras, but for the convergence to be off... there's no getting past that. Have you contacted support about returning the camera? If so, what was their response?
This camera would make sense at the $350 price point. You can tell because Insta360 X4 has an 8k 360 camera for like $500. So,if you cut the insta360 X4 in half, you get vr180 doing 8k AND stabilization and software, and reliability and all. So, saying, hey, we have an $800 camera that isnt remotely close to the quality that we know insta360 could meet if they made a vr180 camera and we wont give you stabilization, plus you get a crap interface and weak hardware all with a tiny sensor.... They are not competitive here and I bet the first model was also not worth buying either because 5.7k is not enough to do vr180. 8K is where it just meets the range of being ok, but you wont like it. Basically, vr180 wont look good ever even for 8k. You cannot expect awesome quality when your field of view is so wide. You can find out by just buying a fisheye lens and shooting 2d vr180 and you will instantly see that the quality just cannot look good. Its going to be rough. NOBODY ever shoots 180 degree FOV with a normal camera. Why people think its going to look great just because you are doing 3d is baffling. 3d doesnt not fix the massive lack of pixels to cover 180 degrees FOV. It wont ever. Try shooting your SLR at 640x480 with a normal FOV and tell me it looks good. Thats all that is happening here. Too many degrees, too few pixels. VR180 is just a dumb format below 8k at a minimum. Its partly why the insta360 evo died. First, we should have 3d cameras like new versions of the Fuji 3d w3 camera. There should be something under $400 that is just normal 3d out there. But you have to build one to do that, which I pretty much have many custom builds for 3d. Used Z Cam K1 pros keep selling on ebay for under $400. I got one for $250, junked the lenses and shoot Laowa fixed 7.5mm and its pretty good. You can do vr180 with it if you want, but you probably wont like the quality, and that camera sells new for $2000. I also shoot zcam e2 cinema cameras, so you can just stick any circular fisheye on it and see you never will get to nice VR180, believe me, I have tried. Optically, maybe never even if we had a perfect sensor, realistically, its way off still. I mean, its ok, but its not going to be like a wow factor. Its vr180 and its rough as can be seen by the demos. This is why the FM DUO costs a fortune. I basically have the z cam k2 pro, because I have twin zcam e2 cameras, so I can say, there is nothing special going on there either. The Zcam K1 Pro is probably the best practical one going right now, and it easily sells cheap on ebay. Dont worry if the lenses are scratched because you can plop a meike 3.5mm f2.8 on there for $140 each and its totally fine. You do not need the original optics. Good luck on the software side of things, but its doable and fairly cheap. That is not a bad 3d camera when you swap the lenses out to a normal super wide. Keep in mind, super wide is still really really wide. So shooting a laowa 7.5mm lens on the k1 pro is still very very wide angle. Its fine for vr.
I'm using two Panasonic S9 with the TTArtisan 7.5mm
Before i was using two Fujifilm X-S20 with the Meike 6.5mm
great review. Can you suggest better 3d vr camera under 1K.
Thanks for watching and for the kind feedback! I wish I could, unfortunately this is my first dive into 3D / VR180 video. BUT, I used this camera at a cosplay event last weekend and I have developed a work flow that allows me to overcome a lot of this camera's shortcomings and to edit / post VR 180 videos without needing expensive software. I'm working on a video to share that workflow with my viewers and I'm uploading a VR180 video to give a real-world example of the results. I hope you stick around to check it out. It should be up in a couple of days. I'll also be keeping viewers posted as soon as there is a firmware update and what it gives us. Take care!
@@WildWonderfulWeekends definately sticking around :) will be waiting for it, and also wait for reviews of some other VR cameras. continu the great work in this new kind of camera as there are not much availabe on internet abouth VR cameras.
@@sohailzafar4340 Thanks so much! I have almost finished my workflow video, I should have it posted tomorrow. I hope it's useful to you. Take care!
Inability to upload to youtube an instant NO BUY! Good review.
Yeah, UA-cam is definitely falling behind on the immersive content front. I'm going to be using Deo VR for all my VR180 and 360 content from now on. If you haven't given it a look, you should check it out. Look for my channel there to see what I've shot with the Calf-Visinse (WildWonderfulWeekends). Also, if you are thinking about getting this camera, my last video shows a workflow that does help overcome some of the shortcomings of this camera. ua-cam.com/video/w_A-1VlR7ko/v-deo.html
thanks for the video, is there any other simple solution for injection for silicon processors (Spatial Media Metadata Injector dont work), I tried with Exiftool but it only works in VNC, not on UA-cam exiftool -XMP-GSpherical:Spherical="true" file.mp4
I dont have most of those issues. my register was fine after the update. what kind of micro sd card are you using? to record at 50 mbs or 100 mbs only one work on the market. u neeed a v90 uhsII.
I'm using a SanDisk Extreme Plus with a write speed of 90 mb/s and read speed of 170 mb/s. I use those with my drones and my 360 camera as well... I think it should be good.
@@WildWonderfulWeekends no good not fast enough. SanDisk Extreme Plus have a max speed 90 mbs and it is a v30 ush-I. v30 mean minimum 30 mbs for video. the max speed is total bulls**t! 90 mbs that is for data not video! The only micro sd that fit the 100 mbs spec for this 8k vr 180 camera is the delkin v90 uhs-II. That is what i have and absolutely no problem with people moving on the screen. maybe getting some info before saying that cam sucks! the only complain that i have is about the color saturation and the brightness and contrast. they will fix that and the next firmware adding 4 new modes for different scenarios like inside and outside etc... and self ajustement. I think you review title is way too agressive and the review itself show that you didnt do you homework. Sad that your bashing that cam. It is not the best way to have new products on the market for vr with comments like that! We all knew we were buying something new that need improvements and we all know those improvements are coming soon with the new firmware at the end of octobre and end of november. The earlybird deal was exactly about that! The first firmware corrected the language and registering issue just fine. there was 2 options in that firmware. for me the second worked perfectly! You cannot register with an email. you have to write a pseudo. you should ask people who know more than you before doing a review!
Thank you
Thanks for checking it out!
