Been busy with the walls and stonework of the summer kitchen. It isn’t anything new, but more of the same- rebar, laying stone, forms and concrete. With the west wall done, only the NW corner and north wall will need finished. Finally, the gables will need laid up before the roof can go on.

Petunia’s piglets are weaned and moving off the farm, and we are down to our last three. Two are awaiting pickup by their new owner, but one- Peonie- will stay and become part of our herd.
Drilling Beans with the Ford 4000

Getting beans planted can be nerve racking- especially if you want the ground worked well. This year has been good, with plenty of time to run the disk mulcher over the chiseled ground. The soybeans went in in about three hours (14 ac field), at about 2 bu per acre…. I love it when everything goes according to plan!! The Ford 4000 pulled the JD 8300 drill well- it was its maiden voyage working....

    Nice. They sure are calm! No squeals at all. My dad had spotted hogs the whole time that I lived at home.

      @@FailureatRetirement I wanted to cross with something I knew I could easily identify, so I used the Duroc semen (my boar is a hamp x york cross, so no reds!). Got to figure out why so few piglets- she had 15 last time. Let me know if you have any guesses- and thanks for watching!!

      @@reppfarms4493 having a way to easily identify them was a smart idea. It’s been so long that I honestly don’t remember a whole lot about hog health issues. Hopefully it was something about the AI, another thing I know nothing about, and not something else. Maybe you missed the timing by a little bit or something.

      @@FailureatRetirement Yup- bed the sheep & hogs with it. I baled some oat straw as well, but I figured I’d bale it up and stick it in the barn. I can feed the oat straw if I run short 😊

    Looks great- I’ve considered a 430 baler. I like the equal angle hitch weight vs the long drive shaft with CV joint on the end that is on my round baler. Ain’t getting any younger you know…😎

      @@HumbleHaymakers Thank you Humble! That 430 has been a solid baler. I considered buying. NH 640 this summer, but decided to hang onto the 430. It’s simple and I know it by now. 16 bales rolled up in less than two hours- it beats small squares by a long shot!! Thanks for watching

      @@reppfarms4493 it’s coming along but slowly now. The general has finished the bulk of his work and we are waiting on subs to show up and complete their work. Stucco guy started last week and the drywall guy starts today. The painter is waiting on both of them. I will do another update but I expect that is a few weeks away.

      It worked up real nice- I went over it with the mulcher and the tw25 and it was like powder. Always nice when ground really works up the way it is supposed to!! Thank you for watching Failure!!

      @@HumbleHaymakers they ram ok- not great- but it will feed the ewes and finish the lambs. IMO- oats are undervalued for feeding. I always like growing them!!

      Yeah, I had to delay work on it until everything was planted and I got first cutting in the barn. I’ve got more time now to get at it, and I’m hoping to have the stonework done by august!! Thank you for watching failure

      Yeah- those selectodrives (“selectospeed” over here) had a bad reputation of jumping into gear. I had a good friend that was injured when the tractor jumped into gear and ran over him. Be careful!!😊

      Yeah- funny story… I started out with four from my Veterinarian. He asked me if I wanted some because he had “extra”. I’d have 60 if I hadn’t given a bunch away 😊

      They are handy! My friend That has the mill is does it as a side business. I only harvest the dead trees each year and it keeps me in lumber

      Thank you Amanda!! Spring is such a wonderful time on the farm. The ewes bring out their lambs, the geese with their goslings, and soon the sows will have their piglets and show them off. All this new life- it constantly amazes me. Thank you for watching!!

      No, I checked the fluids - they were ok and I didn’t want swap fluids until I got home. Charged the battery overnight, put in some fresh diesel in, and cranked it twice to get the oil flowing. Third crank it fired…

      The old gent that had them was a machinist, but a farm boy at heart. Mechanically they are very sound (just dirty!!)

    Nice looking tractors. The 4000 is actually pretty common here in the west. They were used a lot in the orchards. I have run several over the years and they are very solid runners.

      Those 4000’s were built in Highland Park, Michigan (about 2 hours from here). Failure- what about that Super Major? Those are rare birds out this way!!
