When AlAnon starts caring enough to be honest with people & tell them it isn't good or wise or healthy to stay in a relationship or live with an active abuser, then I'll support AlAnon. If you go to AlAnon, it might be wise to also see a therapist, so you have a more balanced, objective viewpoint.

Some people I came across decided to buy their own home. It took thirty years to pay off the morgage. The morgage was paid on a Friday and the husband dropped dead on the following Monday.

Great video except it's sad to hear that her 'church' was against Recovery. There is Christian faith based Recovery program (Celebrate Recovery), in many Catholic churches we are given the place to hold AA meetings. In numerous Christian churches various Recovery meetings are being held. I hear that AA Big Book people were faith based. At that one point regarding 'church' is misleading. Hope she will let resentment go.

I like the danger-response list of flight, fight, freeze and appease, bc it makes so clear that people-pleasing is a reliance on a trauma response. This is a terrific series. Thanks for your service!

your story has been helpful. I know there are a lot of churches that are that legalistic type church, but, there are those who actually do teach and preach truth and a relationship with Jesus as our Lord. I encourage those with this type of experience to not give up on finding a good whole church. perhaps non-denominational is a good place to start. Learn to ask questions. on another note, I'm new to alanon, and I am grateful for this video... I live in a town in SD with about 12000 people and it is a small alanon (5 or 6) group here... looking for all the support and guidance I can find. My story of course is different from yours, I have no extended family in this state and my 3 kids as well as husband all drink. And I did drink till about a year ago, but, was not addicted to it... therefore, they are all mad at me and 'occasionally' think I'm 'crazy' because I think they are all addicted to it and would be better off with out any alcohol in their life! Therefore, I am isolated and feel like I'm so alone in this journey. Trying my best to do the hard work and things to make myself well and healthy. Thank you for sharing and being a support to so many. My God Bless You !
