The scariest Twin Peaks sound effect
The most disturbing sound of all of Twin Peaks, introduced in "Fire Walk With Me" and reused in "The Return". And the surprisingly simple way it was achieved.
The recording appears on the "The Twin Peaks Archive" digital album as "Teresa's Autopsy".

Procol Harum - A Robe of Silk (Live 1973)

This one is a great discovery: "A Robe of Silk", a tune written in the late 60s and occasionally played live. It was eventually published on the studio album "The Well's on Fire" in 2003 but this early version shows a much more exciting interpretation. It's a bootleg from a Procol Harum concert on 24th April 1973 that took place at "Felt Forum" (Madison Square Garden Theater) in NYC.

"Circus Gambet" by german Jazz Guitarist Volker Kriegel. Originally included on the album "Topical Harvest" (1976). These days the track is available on the CD issue "Das Beste aus den Siebzigern".

That's the title track of the album "Salomao". While the LP is very rare this track is available on the "Highlights" CD. The whole track is about 13 min I had to cut the end for UA-cam.

This soundtrack plays in Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me when Mike confronts Leland (Bob) in a van and accuses him of stealing the corn while Laura looks on in horror and disbelief.
It can also be found on the song as “It’s Your Father” and plays during the scene where Mike in his van confronts Leland and Laura while driving

Volker Kriegel is unforgotten! I saw and heard him and his jazzrock band on tv in "das Aktuelle Sportstudio". Harry Valerien, one of the best german sports reporter, invited the unknown jazzrock band for about three times. Absolutly fascinating! Propably 1976? I joined two concerts - one in Nürnberg, another nearby. He opened a gate into jazzrock. Great. Unforgotten!

This version is ultra-intense compared to the straight-laced version on Wells on Fire! And much more experimental, with the slow section.
The Salvo remaster/reissue of "Shine on Brightly" contains the 1968 studio rendition as a bonus track if you are interested to hear it.

In all honesty, the tune Kriegel is playing playing is from a 1974 release called "The Colours of Chloe" by Eberhard Weber. Metheny's first release was 1976.

This seems a very early version…Has it in my ciollection but haven't listened to that show yet. It seems they used to play robe of silk/piggy pig pig quite a lot back then.

@Jazzman1985 I am remembering Volker Kriegel through his great recordings. Most are now available on CD, including the phenomenal Inside:Missing Link. Also the Dave Pike Set albums with Volker.
I've been picking up his MPS albums, solo and with the Dave Pike Set. I really like Topical Harvest, Inside:Missing Link, and Infra-Red. Lift is pretty good too.

I bought a record in the early 80s or maybe it was before that, nvm, Volker K. i dont remember the name on the record, they siting behind a table and there are some dogs there 2, looks they have a party, i liked the record alot, and nice to find this music here, keep on diggin` jazz, thats life
Ever since I saw Volker Kriegel and the Mild Maniac Orchestra live in 1983 or 1984, I'm a total fan. I've downloaded his "Das Beste aus den 80ern" from itunes and listen to them a lot. (Contains most of my favourites from Octember Variations.)

Habe Kriegel und Weber beide mehrfach zusammen und solo gesehen, bin noch heute nach 35 Jahren sehr glücklich darüber. Wenn Du mehr von ihm hören willst, such eventuell auch unter Dave Pike-Set bzw. United Rock- und Jazz Ensemble. Habe selbst einiges an Vinyl aus der Zeit, gibt so gut wie nichts auf CD.
Hey Tarabos1!Danke für deinen aufmunternden Kommentar!:) Heftig,für die 70er...Aber soviel ich weiß,war Krautrock,Canterbury Scene und diverse Jazz-Nischen schon damals"Underground" waren und es heute noch sind! Musik,die sehr vielseitig und kreativ ist und eigentlich nur leute kennen die einen guten geschmack haben! ;)..bin auch erst vor ca.1 1/2 Jahre "auf den Geschmack gekommen"Grüße zurück..Möge die uns die Individualität nie langweilig werden!
+einbert alstein - versuch mal ADHD live on KEXP - eine neue jazz(?) band aus island, sehr interessant und sympathisch... :-) das, was du über die musik von damals sagst stimmt - ich war dabei, ein teil der krautrock szene, einer der vorbereiter der neuen deutschen welle, aktives mitglied der internationalen kassettenszene der frühen 80er bis in die frühen 90er - hab gerade endlich das rolling stone magazin vom märz 2016 erhalten, wo mein stück "science fiction park bundesrepublik" auf der "rare and exotic tracks" beilage cd drauf ist - das ist der titelsong der cd compilation über die deutsche home recording szene, erschienen auf finders/keepers in england, auf zickzack hier in deutschland... - werbung mach - :-) wenn du wirklich einen guten geschmack hast, zieh dir meinen song "diet - abbelstiel" rein, auch von eben jener compilation (den titelsong hat bisher leider noch keiner hochgeladen, dafür einige andere) - mind you: das ist echtes homerecording, im keller, ohne mischpult, ohne computer, ohne sampler, sogar ohne snare, da musste ich mit nem blechteller improvisieren, dafür aber mit autofeder percussion, alles mit einem mikro direkt in ein tonbandgerät gespielt und tschüss... :-) yeah, das waren verrückte zeiten....... aber es hat nicht aufgehört, es geht weiter bis heute, und man muss halt mal ein bisschen rumforschen um auf gute sachen zu kommen - ich finde da die japaner teilweise klasse, und inzwischen bin ich ziemlich auf lofi hiphop, welches mich vielfach an unsere kassettenzeiten erinnert - bei interesse: "axian" hat mich mit seinen mixen gehookt und ist ne gute einstiegsluke... :-)
Hallo namaste91, da Du ja in D bist, schreib ich auch auf D : Ja, ich bin über 30 Jahre älter als Du und kann dir sagen, dass ich selbst in den 70ern mit meinem Musikgeschmack (ECM, Canterbury, Jazz/Rock...) ein Aussenseiter war (bes. in der Schule) Ich freue mich und es lässt mich hoffen, dass es auch noch junge Leute gibt, die diese fantastische Musik mögen..Also: Immer schön kritisch und individuell bleiben und nicht immer "mitschwimmen"....Alles Gute!
Ooh,what a lucky man you are!See,I'm one of these young people,living now in 2009..I'm very interested in the music of these days ( so in the music of the 60s and 70s : Krautrock,Freejazz,Funk,Soul and so far) and it makes me sad that most of the kids today just listen to crappy chorus girls from DSDS..But i also have friends,that have an similar alternative music taste like me!;) greets
Thanks, Tim. Weber suffered a stroke in april or may 2007. I read that he is doing better but i don't think that there are news about him.
wow.. This is just incredible. This represents all the things that were really cool about fusion... exploration, good tune,creative arrangement.. and none of the silly Grandstanding & Showboating that sunk a lot of fusion bands.

Fantastic rare version...from the Band SPECTRUM (1974) Eberhard Weber (b) Volker Kriegel (gt) Rainer Brüninghaus (pn/kb) Joe Nay (dr) Volker and Eberhard had musical disagreements that year and thus Eberhard formed his COLOURS while Volker moved on to found his MILD MANIAC ORCHESTRA that eventually lasted until 1980. I´m glad to have been a young fan these days! (Not envious to the young people living in anno 2009)
Ja, Eberhard Weber ersetzte Hans Rettenbacher und Mark Hellman den Peter Baumeister..Weber und Kriegel gründeten danach SPECTRUM. Dave Pike verzog sich wieder in die USA. Dort spielte er später das so wunderbare Album "Times out of Mind" ein..hört mal dort rein...fast besser, als das Dave Pike Set (!?)
It's difficult indeed, even here in germany. Most of Kriegels work wasn't released on CD. Unlike Weber, Mangelsdorff and other companions he seems to become forgotten. Very sad.
