This comment is dedicated to the memory of my Grandad (1934-2016). He lived in Eastbourne with my Granny, who is still alive today, until his death in 2016. Historically, when going to Eastbourne, Dad would usually drive me down. The radio reception as we went through the South Downs (which are full of chalk) was quite poor, so we usually had a CD playing in the car - often an album by The Killers. I don't think there are any albums by The Killers that Dad doesn't have. To this day, I still associate The Killers with East Sussex (the county in England where Eastbourne is located).

As kids we were all happy because we didn’t know what life was really like. As we grow older we realize how chaotic and laden with suffering life really is. Breakups, deaths, depression, betrayals, aging, dead dreams, etc. These experiences make you want to breakdown and cry but you have to save face so you at least appear happy. Smile like you mean it…

Yes this song is about Brandon's parent's and his mother Jean getting brain cancer. Also about his father realizing about the Mormon faith. He moved his family from Las Vegas to Utah. So Brandon was introduced to his faith in God during his years in Utah. The great divide is when Brandon came back to Las Vegas. This is directly from Brandon's uncle. Jean's brother. He's my good friend. He is very proud of his nephew Brandon!!🤗👏❤

My parents just sold their house the house that I grew up in with my brother and that had been in the family for 50 years, this song hits hard now knowing that someone else will enjoy all the things I did. I guess Dustland is a song with heartfelt meaning but I don't get it, no offense intended to Killer fans. It usually takes a few times of listening to a song for me to decide whether or not I like it. Also, I've never been into poetry. I often never understand what poets meant if a poem isn't in clear, plain english. The many comments say this is a great song so I won't disagree people like what they like. Sometimes the words in songs touch me but usually it's the music that initially gets my attention and moves me. I'm new to the Killers' music so I'm not familiar with it but will listen to more.

One of my favorite killers songs, and has been since I was 9 years old when day and age first came out. Saw them play it live when I was 15 years old and then when I was 17, it was amazing. Just hauntingly beautiful and poetic lyrics.
