Ride the Mangapurua Track - Bridge to Nowhere - 4K
Come and take a ride with us on the Mountains to Sea - Mangapurua Track, also known as the Bridge to Nowhere ride.
We take a shuttle from Raetihi to Ruatiti Road to start our ride through the beautiful Whanganui National Park. We used the Bridge to Nowhere Lodge jet boat and stayed at their lodge on the River.
This 36km grade 3 ride has a unique and fascinating history which makes for a great ride.

These types of bridges in the middle of nowhere.are military.made.probably round ww2. By look of the concrete. After war project s like this were abandoned

Wow, I rode this track way back in 1992, when I was still a mountain biker. There wasn't a Siberia curve bridge back then.
I remember that the first time i rode it too. We rode from the Featherstone end back, was hard yakka
Did it last week on an e bike. 25 mins to the summit. 30 mins to cross creek stopping for sights a cuppa a pics took 55 mins all up.

Yeah I think you could, the trail is very well maintained and we saw all sorts of bikes out while we were riding.

This looks super chill and scenic, perfect for a newbie. How many hours of riding is in here, you reckon?
Yeah this loop “Course C” was rated grade 2/3, a couple of good climbs but mostly just good flowy fun. At 21kms it took us around 2 hours on ebikes fluffing around with cameras etc.

Great video. I did this ride for the first time April 2022. I found it challenging, but then I am a senior and I was riding an electric bike. I am glad that I experienced the trail.

Woah, I've never noticed that option to the right at 4:04 - I've always pinned it straight ahead between the two rocks!
I think I’m 50/50 between the rocks or up to the right depending on how I approach it. It’s fun taking all the different lines through that section, especially in the wet!

They've taken out all the good stuff. made the track easy to ride a road bike I suppose when they redo the incline railway it will be interesting It is disappointing when no-one chats away, so I just turn the volume to 00 Cheers

Hi Ben...I like the details of this video on you blog, thanks for sharing the details. I would like to take ride on this trail with kids (1.5 to 2yrs) with kids seats and trailer. Can you suggest if this is doable based your experience.
Yeah I'd say its doable on certain sections. Would be down to your confidence with kids on the bike. Also I'd aim to stay away from the road sections, and maybe the bridges could be a little narrow for a trailer. Would be good fun on the train for the kiddies thouhgh!
