😂 this guy has obviously not driven a powerboat out of key ditch to Charlotte harbor. First once you get out of key ditch there is a large sandbar across the entire exit with about 1ft of water on both sides to navigate around. I had to put kayak motor up and row. Once you clear that you are looking at large flats that are 1.5ft deep that my motor kayak with 2hp motor was scraping bottom to get across. A lot of the cuts are very narrow allowing for only one boat to get through. This is just a fantasy. Unless you have a flats boat with a 10” draft it just is not navigable.

Digging a straight cut through is the worst thing they can do to that area, the name of the canal is the "spreader" for a reason, by design it's supposed to spread the freshwater runoff throughout the whole estuary, allowing the natural filtration process to happen, not just dumping at the south end and possible soon to be north end. Ever since they removed the dam, the water quality, seagrass and fish has diminished every year and has not stopped yet. Digging a canal anywhere along the shoreline will be another nail in the coffin for Matlacha water quality. If people don't like the 45min+ ride down the spreader they shouldn't have bought property there. If they keep changing things with the water flow, the reason everyone wants to be here will soon be no more. A glimpse into the future is, they cut the canal and people gain quicker access but now it's a few years after and woo-hoo you made it to the harbor in half the time but now you have to drive to the far side of pine island because there's no good water or fish left in matlacha.

We are getting ready to jet ski here and mark the area as we go on a map. I know there are rocks, as I had my jet boat through here a few weeks ago, but it closed in fast around the first turn. Do you know of anyone that has gone through it recently since the hurricane?

I think this location survived but the original Blind Pass Lazy was destroyed. Luckily we got to spend a good amount of time there three weeks ago.

This place sucks balls I rather go somewhere else.

We have lived in the Northwest neighborhood of Cape Coral 12 years near Crystal Lake. On many occasions we like to boat from our neighborhood to Matlacha Bridge and further out to the Gulf. This process takes over one hour, winding thru the canals, on many occasions when you get to the big bend west bound before Michelli;s restaurant boat traffic is horrific and clogged into a bottleneck, due to shallow water and 2 way boat traffic. Now add the hundreds of new boaters from the proposed Gateway Marina you are going to have total chaos.The hundreds of boaters who live north of the new Gateway Marina project have only one way to get out to the Gulf. The answer ? Create a northern direct cut to the Gulf in the area of Crystal lake. Right now there is only one way in and one way out for all the boaters in the Northwest area of Cape Coral, Everyone knows when you have a entrance and exit to a canal system, things just work so much better and smoother, water currents keep the canals cleaner, keep algae levels lower, less pollution,, less mosquitoes, better water quality. There are many areas in the current canal system in the Northwest neighborhood which are extremely close to the Gulf, some as close as 1/8 mile, which could be opened up to allow direct access to the Gulf. It would be nice if the Cape Coral Board of Realtors, who have significant influence, would push for a northern direct cut opening into the Gulf, this would certainly be something worth looking into, for the overall good of the community. Land values would increase dramatically, if boat owners knew they had easy and fast direct access to the Gulf from the existing bottleneck of the Gateway Project canal system in the Northwest Cape Coral area.

where did the rides go?

You didn't show the best part! The best part is the outdoor seating and bar area overlooking the marina and nice condos. This is a our favorite boating destination lunch spot, just about a half hour boat ride south of downtown Punta Gorda.

I guess the white sandy beaches, biggest pool in Florida and marina that were on the original artists concept drawings went away. I wonder if it will even have a dock.

lies... past few months working there half the kitchen staff has been sick and made to come to work anyway or just be fired... and. from my own experience... if you do get a positive covid test... there is no sick pay or time off... you just get fired. you can get the same food alot cheaper anywhere else. they just throw some garnish on it and put it on a pretty plate and upcharge rediculessly
