Should I buy a Vizsla??
Переглядів 29 тис.4 роки тому
You may ask yourself, "should I buy a Vizsla"? Well, In this video I cover four positive aspects of Vizsla ownership. I talk about why I bought my Vizsla and why I think you should, too. I cover the energy/exercise requirements of my Vizsla, the ease of his obedience training, grooming/maintenance, and his wonderful personality/characteristics.
lol, I don’t think anyone is using their V for home defense
I hear you. Mine is afraid of his own shadow.
He keeps saying European breeders don't dock the tails. Well yeah, they'll go to jail or get fined if they do. Nothing like a little coercion. People want to advocate for something without fully understanding the reasons why something is done and further make up their own reasons why it is done like aesthetics. Back in the day, I'm sure there were many bloody mutilated tails before someone thought "Hey, let's remove this while it still doesn't hurt" and then we won't have to deal with it later. I've had many dogs with docked and undocked tails. The docked ones have never had any issues. Two of the undocked ones have had to go through amputation surgery due to tails being severely injured.. In my experiences, it's just a matter of practicality. I'm not really for or against docking, I love the dogs either way.
I personally wouldn't have it done. Corbin's tail looks like it was when I adopted him. I guess it just depends on the breeder. Thanks for the comment!
You and Corbin have had a rough time these past several years and yet you’re still moving forward and and staying motivated. Praying you both continue to heal and I’m looking forward to future content.
Thank you very much for your support and kindness. :)
Just wondering why you have not posted videos in so long?? These are great content!!
Oh thank you so much. I had a traumatic brain injury and found out later I also had a brain tumor. I've been working very hard to get back to where I was. I want to make a new video about it but wasn't sure if I should. People come on here to see Vizsla stuff..not my sob story ya know. :) I also have medical updates about Corbin. He has valley fever and apparently has had it for many years. What I was told was allergies and a sensitive stomach ended up being valley fever..which can kill your Vizsla. I'll try to make a new video about this very very soon!!
@@AllaboutVizslas Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about both you and the dog. Thankfully you're both on the mend. I'll be on the look out for your videos!
Thank you. I appreciate your subscribing!
I had no idea that animals get this disease.. I I ly know about this condition because I may have it.
I didn't know that people could get it.
My vizsla is about to get her tail docked. She swings her tail so strong against walls that she hurts it and starts to bleed.
Oh I know!! I have some friends who have Vizslas that get pretty hurt. They went the same route. Just pamper and spoil the heck out of them after their surgery. Thanks for the comment! New videos to come soon!
@@AllaboutVizslas I'm just worried about complications after surgery, like chronic pain, because she's an adult dog and her tail is fully developed. Does your friend's vizslas are okay after that surgery?
@@lucasprust1 I don't believe my friend's Vizslas experienced any type of phantom limb pain. I totally understand that such complications can occur, among others, when docking. That's why I'd really be particular with the veterinarian. I came across this article and it talks about phantom pain and pet massage. I found it interesting. petmassage.com/who-stole-my-tail-and-why-does-it-itch-a-look-at-phantom-limb-pain-and-phantom-limb-sensation/#:~:text=Massage%20soothes%20the%20nerve%20endings,will%20certainly%20cause%20no%20harm.

what supplement do you recommend for separation anxiety ?
Honestly? I recommend changing the diet and getting them off kibble 100% . I'm getting ready to make a part III video as I have found some medical explanations for my Corbin's anxiety and how important it is to find a good veterinarian. Stay tuned...I have a lot of tests that I've done that I want to share with you all.
NO! and YES!!! I have had MANY dogs. They ARE my children. I have a rescued V mix, more beautiful that purebred ones, which are adoeable. Yes to Vs. No to “ buy” ADOPT!!!!! My girl is amazing in soooo many ways and a cuddle bug. What a best buddy! She is leader of pack of 4. My others are shelties.
Thanks for sharing!! I always think adoption is the best route. Lot's of dogs need loving homes. Thank you for your comment.
I have to say, you have done a lovely job of training your Vizsla. In reality, their need to "be on you" is not an attribute, in my opinion. Typically, the Vizsla's "velcro" personality is a reflection of that volatility. You forgot to mention that this breed was developed for centuries to hunt. Hence, they have a need for a certain level of exercise. If they are not hunted, you have to deal with many of those "other aspects" of the Vizsla. In the least, you have to displace the hunting with a healthy regimen of physical AND mental stimulation. Their good looks has been their nemesis, not unlike other other attractive sporting breeds such as the Golden retriever, the Weimaraner and the Irish setter, to name a few. It brings to light this one question: How any distinct dog breeds are there in total, roughly?
Aw, thank you. So true on their development history with hunting. Most of my stuff is in storage at the moment but I do plan on making a series on the history. I'm looking forward to it for sure!! I appreciate the comment very much. Please stay tuned for more to come. :)

@@AllaboutVizslas dont know which pouty face is the cutest lolol
I am watching because I would love to get a Vizsla. But it really seems like a handful, I am trying to learn as much as I can. Definitely worried about separation anxiety so I would love to see how you handle his behaviors like the whining and putting his paw on you. When you leave the house does he tear things apart? Does he wreck the place?
Hello Tami. Thank you for watching. I'm not going to pretend that handling my baby is easy all the time because it has not been. He's about to turn 8 now and he grew out of his destructive phase around 4 years old. I would recommend this breed even with this condition. It is a condition, if you are dedicated and consistent, that can be managed. Not all Vizslas struggle with this but it is a trait they are more prone to because of the breed and their history. This breed was specifically only for Hungarian royalty and they were constant companions of their royal families. They do not do well being left alone. They need lots of love, socialization, exercise, and attention. The benefits outweigh the struggles for sure. Do you know anyone who has one? If so, I'd recommend you try to spend time with one. You can also contact your closest Vizsla breeder. They're an excellent source of information!!
@@AllaboutVizslas thank you so much! I will contact a breeder and ask for some advice. Will be following your videos too
@@Tinyturtletami I appreciate it. I will be making an introduction video for the channel this weekend. :)
Glad you're getting back on your feet! Sounds like you've really been in a fight.
Aw, thank you Susan. I really appreciate your comment. I am super excited to start creating more content. I, eventually, hope to grow this channel to the point where I can open my own Vizsla rescue and become a breeder myself. So, lots of work to do :).
@@AllaboutVizslas Wonderful goals! I love Vizslas!! The community of breeders are awesome as far as I've seen so hopefully you find helpful and friendly breeders to guide you :)

Hungarian Vizsla!
Is there a question?
Hungarian Vizsla is breed name! Not only Vizsla. I understand that's more convenient. Do we say Shepherd or German Shepherd? or Australian Shepherd? Make sense?
@@gaborwendler325 I guess it depends on the person but yes, it makes sense.
Thanks our viz Rose loved the towel game!
So glad!
Why buy? Adopt is much better!!!
I always support adoption first. There are plenty of good Vizslas that need loving homes. For sure!!
EXACTLY!!! I have had several stray dogs of different breeds. My V mix is a RESCUE from an animal shelter .I found her in FaceBook.
Can I ask where you adopted your dog? Which country? I find that I can't find Vizsla adoption, only for sale
I adopted mine through the Pilot dog program in Columbus Ohio. He didn't meet the guide dog requirements. I'd check with your local Pilot dog or Seeing eye dog programs to see if they train Vizslas. I hope this helps.
Can you travel (2 weeks away) without the dog ever? Or is that too much anxiety for the breed??
I'm sure there are Vizsla's that don't have separation anxiety. My friend has one and she's perfectly fine when her owner needs to leave. Unfortunately, Mine is not one of those. I can't really leave my dog because he gave himself an ulcer his anxiety is so bad. Only in an emergency situation would I put him through that. So, I have to make sure if I do need to travel only my family member he's most comfortable with is there to take care of him. This is not the situation with every Vizsla out there though.
My V loved car rides and I did fly across country with her and take her on a couple of long road trips. If possible , take yours along
My vizsla would eat that towel and everything in it in 5 sec
I can see that. Mine is super rowdy when I come home. He automatically picks up a shoe and runs across the house. He does get in his little devil moods and likes to tug and play.
Thank you for the information,.
Any time!
you should always rescue, not buy a dog from a breeder. there are literally millions of deserving dogs in shelters today. we adopted our vizsla from the shelter. She is truly a gem.
I'm all for adoption. I adopted mine from a program in Columbus, Ohio. :)
@@AllaboutVizslas YAY so happy to hear this!!!

Thank you! I'll will try to do that. I appreciate your help. :)
Getting a Sport Dog e-collar this week for our 8 mo old V, Penny ❤️ Did you train with an e-collar?
I absolutely did. Corbin responds very well to just the vibration tone.
Hi. Our COVID Vizsla puppy, Penny is 8 mos old....she’s all the things you experienced except not much of a talker or even barker. Did that happen at a later age pls?
Not much of a talker eh? Hmmm....well, mine is very very vocal. I adopted him when he was 1 year old. I'm sure your pup will grow into it's voice. Don't worry. The breed is extremely vocal.
Great Video ! I have a Vizsla, without a doubt the best dog I've ever owned...he never leaves my side. If you are looking to get one make sure you watch videos like this one and do your homework as they are not for everyone. Also, please, please, please make sure you have plenty of land/room as they have to exercise ALL THE TIME There is energy and then there is Vizsla energy !!
Very true.
We where about to get one, But it turned out to be a Scammer! Thankfully we figured it out before they got our money. Would you point us in the direction of good breeder ? Thanks !
I'm glad you were able to avoid the scam. I'd check for Vizsla rescues in your state. Many times people adopt this breed underestimating the maintenance and end up giving them to local shelters. Check this link out and see if the contact may direct you in a good direction: www.vcaweb.org/rescue/contacts.shtml
@@AllaboutVizslas Thank You, We'll sure look into that....And see where it goes
I love my vizsla but I would never suggest to anyone to get one.
I totally understand. They are most definitely a high maintenance breed. Extremely active, emotional, etc. They require a ton of patience and love.
People often forget that vizslas are hunting dogs.
do you think crate training could minimize the destruction + anxiety?
Well, in my case it didn't. Corbin was so anxious that when I would leave him in his crate he would flip it over and it would be on the other side of the room when I got back home. He wouldn't even sleep in it without salivating profusely. As he got older and less destructive, I could just leave him in the house without him causing problems. If yours is not that bad with anxiety or destruction, then I would definitely recommend it. Start slow with it...like just for sleeping and then expand it to other things. It should be a rewarding place.
How can you put out a video about tail docking and call it cropped through the whole video. I have watched a few of your videos and have some not totally truthful information about the breed. I currently own 2 Vizslas myself that are from a working breeder. I really want to like your channel but I believe better preparation of the script would help. I am not trying to be rude because I love listening to facts about the breed. Your Vizsla characteristics video was a little off to what I have been through raising two Vs. neither had anxiety, aggression issues or allergies of any kind. I know you stated that it maybe different for other owners. But what you described is a very rare thing when buying from a reputable breeder. I know you said that your was a rescue and thanks for rescuing him and giving him a loving home. Like I said I am not trying to be mean but I think a little more time and research for your videos will help out greatly.
Hello. Yes, I caught the difference in terminology after I recorded that video. I believe I tried to insert some captions correcting the error. I'm always looking for constructive feedback so I appreciate yours. I've suffered a brain injury so my terminology does get jumbled from time to time. It's a work in progress. I am preparing to record some more footage as soon as my injury heals. Anxiety, aggression, medical and other behavioral problems can vary from dog to dog. Genetics and good breeding are definitely key. Other things such as diet and exercise are also important. My dog was unfortunately abused before I adopted him so he's higher maintenance compared to some of my other friends that own this breed. I'll try to speak clearer with my next videos. Thanks for watching and thank you for your kind feedback. :)
Sadly I had to put down my beloved companion 3 weeks ago at ae 14. He was such an amazing dog. I still expect to see him behind me when I turn around.
I'm very sorry to hear this news. I dread the day when I will have to part with mine. Well, this is an interactive channel so even though your baby is no longer with you physically, they're still with you spiritually. Please do comment on any other videos and please share your experiences so other owners have somewhere to turn if they need. I've learned so much from being a part of Vizsla forums and groups.

I live in Hawaii and would love to have a vizsla as part of our family but there is not breeder here. So, im trying to find a reputable breeder. I will plan to fly and get the puppy. Thank you.

I am looking for a Vizsla. I live in Colorado. Do you know where I can go? I have looked at rescues but have not found one that has any younger vizsla's. Please let me know. I hope your dog stays healthy!
I would recommend looking for a Vizsla rescue organization. I'm unfamiliar if Colorado has one or not but I would think they should.
Hello Michael. I know it's been a year since my last response but I did run into a Vizsla non-profit located in Utah that you may be interested checking out. Their website is utahvizsla.org/. Did you ever find one? Also check out the Vizsla Club of America Inc. Page www.vcaweb.org/rescue/contacts.shtml. I re-read my original response and it wasn't very helpful so I do apologize. I hope these resources will help you if you haven't already found a place.
I rescued my V as a puppy. I was told she was a miniature q Wheener dog and would be 4 or 5 lbs....much to my surprise, I learned what a vizsla was. We also go hiking and trail running. I'm in the best shape of my life. We do 120 to 150 miles a month now. She does more because she'll smell deer and go find them and run them to me while I'm trying to hike with her. I've never loved anything or been loved back by anything more than this creature. She's my best friend.
That's awesome. It keeps getting better! It's a wonderful breed!!
You will never get to sit anywhere, sleep anywhere, or go to the bathroom by yourself ever again. You will have to take them for a walk and cater to their needs before you do anything for yourself...or you may pay the price. You will invest in a lot of dogbeds and blankets because they get cold easily. You will spend a ridiculous amount money on them if they get sick because they are worth every penny.
All very very true. :)
What a cutie. My girl Isis just passed away a few months ago.
Aw, thank you. I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet heart passing away. Do stay tuned in on my channel and feel free to provide any advice you think would be helpful to my subscribers. :)
Thank you for the video. Quick question, of there are more than one familiemember, will he pick one leader or is every member the same „rank“?
It's been my experience that they will bond with 1 person. Not to say they aren't a family dog but my experience is they will have a "favorite" family member they usually cling to the most. This may not be the case for every Vizsla family though.
My wife and I love the breed, but we can't find a breeder within 300 miles who will have puppies within the next year. I guess we'll have to look at other similar breeds?
Are you willing to adopt a rescue? Check into your local seeing eye dog facilities. I adopted mine from the Pilot dog program. He was 1 when I got him and had the basic obedience already done.
My V mix is a RESCUE!!! and she has V qualities, smaller and even more beautiful face and eyes than a purebred. Search the rescues

How did the separation anxiety clear or get better?
I enrolled him in Service dog training, and I worked on desensitizing him to strangers and many different places. I'm not going to lie, he still has it but not to the degree that he did. He was so bad that I couldn't even be in the bathroom with the door closed for 2 minutes without him going crazy trying to get in. I'm going to make a video on Separation anxiety pretty soon. I also would do things like put my coat on and sit next to him watching TV and jingle my keys throughout the house and pay no attention to his reaction. It's taken 2.5 years to get him to this point.
All about Vizslas thanks for the info. I’ve watched a lot of videos with good techniques to try combat or help it. Glad to hear it’s getting better slowly but surely
