Classic 350 Boxing Day Biking
Ride out on the Classic 350 on Boxing Day - from Durham to Blanchland via Whittonstall and back via the Derwent Reservoir. It's a mild winters day (5-6C) with a bit of sunshine and quiet roads.
The video sound isn't great; my microphone setup is still playing up after the last soaking it got.
Anyway, I hope everyone that celebrates or marks Christmas had a great Christmas day ...and those that don't just had a great day.
Not really trying to Vlog or anything, just me messing about on my motorcycle and playing with recording gear etc. No talking just riding. Normally in and around County Durham and surrounding counties (NE England)
Bike mods: Pretty standard this one ...so far. Only has bar end mirrors and tank knee pads (came like that) and now with DNA filter. There's a couple of new relays and I cleaned the rest ...I've also moved the gear lever up one spline. It's now fitted with a single Royal Enfield pannier and a cheap decat pipe.
Recording Stuff: Insta 360 X3 (with motorcycle kit) (Camera World); Movo Wireless Mini Duo (for sound, Mounted under side panel); Ulanzi MT-58 1.21m Selfie Stick.

Classic 350 December Cross Country (& heated glove workout)
Переглядів 22514 днів тому
Out on the Classic 350 from Durham to Skinburness on the west coast. 200 mile Christmas Card delivery to my Auntie. Started out at 3C in Durham, 1C by Alston and even colder on Killhope and Hartside tops, plus a smattering of fog and rain. On the way back it was a degree or two warmer but wetter. The long cold and damp trip gave my new heated gloves a real good test/workout (Ride Iron Winter Wa...
Classic 350 Night Ride

Out for a 55 mile night ride up and down part of Weardale. The heavy rain has washed away the road salt, the high winds have then dried up most of the road water/flooding and it's not dropping below 4C until late. Had a few problems with filming in the dark (and it's never great quality) but put together a short video of some of the ride anyway. Not really trying to Vlog or anything, just me me...

Out on the Classic 350 to Bollihope via Weardale and Stanhope, plus a quick look up to Tunstall Reservoir. A cool day (5C max in the valleys and a couple degrees cooler on the hills). I was pretty cautious on the north slopes, just in case of lingering frost or black ice. Also testing out my new heated gloves (Ride Iron Winter Waterproof Rechargable Heated Gloves). Just got these this week with...

Heading up to Hury Reservoir (Teesdale) on the Classic 350. There was supposed to be a chance of clear sunshiny sky today but I didn't see it. Just about topping out at 6C on the tops with the cold damp air and wind chill making it feel a lot colder, Brrrr (I'm reminded, I need some winter gloves). Taking the Continental GT 650 (with my brother on his Super Meteor) to Richmond, Buckden and Hawes. Did most of this route a week and a half ago by myself but this time rode the opposite direction between Hawes and Buckden. Lead road and the B6306 👍
Yeah, well spotted. They are nice roads to use all year round.
@@leighcoulson2148 When you turned onto the B6306 from the Lead road at Cant's cottage cross roads the next hamlet you went through is " The Colpitts" where I grew up.
@@HorseMalone That seems like a nice location to be growing up at. There's some nice dwellings and nice countryside all along the Lead road.
Hi bud, I went out Xmas day and was clear of traffic, sadly all my roads were full of tractor shite which spoilt what sould have been a good ride, ho well out with the snow foam 😢
Yeah, I get that occasionally. Fortunately most of the route was over moorland and a bit of forested areas (so mainly sheep) ...and the previous rains washed a lot of the roads in muck-spreading areas
Hi I have just got a 2023 classic 350 a few weeks ago are the seat tyres all right in wet weather
Hello. For casual riding they seem fine, I've never had any issues (so far) ...but it's not a bike for tearing around anyway, so the lower speed and power output probably help too.
Ich mag deine Videos sehr!❤ Kein Gelaber und pures Feeling, die reine Essenz des Motorradfahrens!
Tnank you 👍I do try ans capture the essence of the ride.
Is that the Hitchcock exhaust on that? Sounds gorgeous 😍
Thanks. No it's the standard exhaust apart from a decat centre section (very cheap one from India £26). Also I have the microphone mounted on the saddle bag so it picks up the exhaust note nicely, pretty much as it sounds whilst riding.
really enjoyed that marra not been over that way in a while so it was a nice reminder of what i,m missing :) the 2 enfields almost make you wish it was filmed in monochrome n had one of them posh blokes doing a voiceover
Nice one ❤
Does the Classic dark ( as I presume that is the Model ) come with spoked wheels in the UK? Here in Oz they have the Black Mags which I have fitted to My Bullet Black and Gold, bit warmer here!
Hello. You can get it new with either spoked or cast wheels. The cast wheels are actually slightly cheaper but mine came with the spoked option (2nd hand).
Lovely views & footage but your a braver person then me too cold & the cleaning of the bike after the ride out
@@richardpage6522 thanks. Yeah, I did give my bike a quick wash afterwards 😁
How were the gloves, Leigh?
They worked great. It's the first pair of heated gloves I've tried, not sure why I haven't used them before (probably the price 😬) . They look decent quality, were comfy on (I was inbetween the 'Large' and 'Extra Large' size range but opted for the Large ...and they fit fine). They were reasonably warm even before turning them on but as the cold started creeping in, I switched them on to the lowest setting and they imediately warmed up. I tried them on the hottest setting on the way back and whilst they warmed up a little bit more, it wasn't a huge difference ...they didn't get overly hot. Normaly after a few hours out in 3-5C my hands would have been hurting but the gloves kept my hands/fingers comfortably warm, so quite impressed.
I've just ordered myself a pair, I was torn between heated grips and gloves but opted for gloves.👍
It’s ’hurry up’ or am I missing some in joke? Nice ride.
Thanks. I rode to Hury Reservoir, so it was just a play on words.
@ thought it was an in joke ;) thanks.
Hi looking at your bike I’ve bought the same as yours . Just asking what brand of tyres do you have on your bike
I've got Bridgestone BT46's on now (the last 1000 miles or thereabouts). Quite a bit better than the originals, more compliant/better ride (which I wasn't expecting), and feeling a bit more planted/ secure and a lot less squirmy over lines/grooves in the road surface.
@ Thank you for this information I’ve got the original tyres on I’ve just done 400 miles on it so I’ll see who they go in spring if am not happy With them I will change Thanks
@@richardpage6522 No problem. I didn't find the original tyres to be too bad and only replaced them after doing 6500 miles ...but the Bridgestones were noticeably better.
G’day maaate, what a beautiful ride👍😁. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your G.T sounds amazing. I suppose asking what pipes you have on it would be rude, however I am a little uncouth & rude at times therefore I will ask,…. what pipes makes your bike sound so great? 🤷🏻♂️🙄🤣🤣. I await with bated breath for your reply. In the meantime ride safe, Hooroo from the guru from the land down under 🏍👍😎
Hello. You're welcome and thanks. The pipes are Powerage, I purchased them via Ebay from an Indian seller.
The new classic 650 seems less genuine being a twin, in my opinion.
The Classic 650 is a little overweight but I really like the looks. I do like singles but really don't mind it being a twin either, as there were a lot of twins around in the 50's & 60's.
Leigh, can you please tell us a bit about the your amazing camera gear.
I just use one camera, the Insta 360 X3. It is a fantastic bit of kit. Some other cameras have better image quality but the 360 view is so flexible, allowing you to pick any viewpoint. I normally have it mounted on a selfie stick clamped to my handlebars so I can move it around on the fly. But occasionally try it in different locations to try something different. I also use a movo Mini Duo microphone setup to capture the sound.
Love those incredible camera angles. Also couldn't help noticing the hellish Atmospheric Aerosol Injection going on above.
Thanks.
I love the narrower than usual viewing angle, makes a pleasant change. Great bike. Ride safe.
nice.
Wow , what a perspective. How do you do it?
A 360 camera, mounted on a selfie stick, clamped onto my bike ...and a bit of fiddling around to try and get some interesting veiws. Plus I'm still learning techniques.
Got my mod 2 next week in glasgow just checked the weather not looking good possible snow
Good luck ..and hope the snowy weather holds off for you.
When you want to send it, you got your gt 650 for that. So, now that a 650 classic is available would you want to trade up, or is it also nice to have a lightweight 350 single cylinder thumper to sight see, around your area.
The 350 is a very different riding experience to the GT 650, so really like both. I really like the look and vibe of the new Classic 650 (and Bear) and I might be tempted further down the line but I'll most likely keep the Classic 350 because of the different riding experience. I actually got the 350 as a winter bike but have ridden it on and off all year.
@@leighcoulson2148 Agree. I have a T100 and a Classic 350. Both great bikes.
Excellent camera positions! Ride safe.
Thank you.
8:04 Where you turn left onto the Coalcleugh road.... Those stunted pine trees leaning right over from the wind haven't grown hardly a foot in over 50 years....just shows how barren the soil and bleak the growing seasons are up there.
Yeah they are a bit exposed up there❄🌪🌧.
Que sonido más bonito tiene esta moto
What's the difference? Standard sounds better.
The mic doesn't pick it up well but it does sound different, a little sharper/barkier in real life, especially when out riding it. Whether you prefer the sound or not is subjective, I don't mind either but thought I'd just try it out.
AMAZING VIDEO!
Thank you very much.
Ha, Leigh.... you must spend a fortune in that cafe ..
Yeah, it's mounting up 😁. It is a nice café though. A lot of the time I just take a flask and sandwich, so I can stop anywhere on route ...but there's a handful of cafe's I often visit (in Durham and North Yorkshire).
Some lovely roads, and bike sounds great. Also the Continental!!😊
Thanks, yeah there's some great motorcycling roads not too far away, many Bumble friendly.
We have some cracking roads in our area.
We are fortunate 🏍, especially in the west of Durham, plus with North Yorkshire, Northumberland. Cumbria and the Scottish Borders all within fairly easy reach.
Great stuff. Few new roads for me to explore next year. Cheers
Thanks.
I really like the way you make your videos. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.I love my GT650. From Nebraska,USA
@@robertsmall1003 thank you very much... and they are great bikes.
Which Royal do you prefer: Continental or classic? Greetings from Brazil.
They are both very different experiences. The Continental is obviously much more powerful and better for longer rides and on faster roads. The Classic is great for taking it easy on twisty country lanes and just enjoying the scenery.
@@leighcoulson2148 Thanks for your reply and attention. Cheers!
Cool, mate. Cheers! Greeting from Brazil.
A beautiful Rickenbacker bass with a unique sound. Greetings from Brazil.
Only just noticed this one. That's one of my very early videos (very poor sound quality and mainly to allow me to hear where I'm slightly off etc). Anyway thanks. It wasn't a real Rik, just a cheap copy from Aliexpress (it did look real and sound a little similar though) but have since sold it.
No comments yet??? That's a shame. Here, let me help a little 😄
This past week started out wet, then from Wednesday weather turned for the better. Time off work and my bike, what's better. Fairly sure I saw you on my ride. My route was from home passing places include Wolsingham, St John's Chapel (cafe stop only biker there) Nenthead, Haltwhistle, Hexham, Bellingham, Otterburn then back home. For a perfect day's riding.
Nice route. I did see a few bikers on my route, so if it was between Eastgate and Wolsingham I may have passed you.
Grand day for it...I don't think we'll get many more.
It certainly was ...making the most of it 🌤
Thanks for the video. I also have a Royal Enfield Continental GT650 in Rocker Red. Like you, I have kept the mirrors, as I lane split and bar end mirrors would make the bike too wide. I have not bothered with the rear cowl, as I tie a small bag to the rear seat.
I like it no shite talk,! just the bike, grand I have one of these, great for country roads here in West Cork....
Nice video 👍 Those cameras are really amazing aren’t they.
Thanks. Yeah the insta 360s are brilliant, maybe not the best at pure quality but so flexible (great to experiment with).
Beautiful. You mind sharing where you’re putting the insta 360? I don’t have space on the handlebars
Unfortunately I can't post an image here (which would make things perfectly clear). However if you take a close look at the video at 7 secs in (and a few other places), you may just make out that I have a clamp mounted onto the clip-on bar upright (the other end of which holds my seflie stick). It'd probably be much more difficult to use this mounting location if I hadn't fitted the bar risers. Although you still can use the top of the clip-on bars or mirrors as an alternative.
@@leighcoulson2148I’m going to give it a try! Thank you sir
Excellent drive and cool village video 🎉✌️👌
Unbelievable weather this week Leigh... I've been out every other day...rain from now on apparently.
Yes, we've been fortunate. Hopefully we might get the odd nice day in between the rain before it starts to freeze =¬)

❤ your red rooster. Great videos. Awesome roads you got there. I have a dux deluxe gt 650.
Do you have the exhaust baffle removed on your 350. It seems a lot louder than mine?
@@cdnrock7433 no just the decat pipe. It could be the position of my microphone too, as I tend to mount it on the rear of the pannier. I sometimes mount it under the side panel but then I get a lot of induction roar.
thanks ! gonna buy ASAP
There's usually a couple of Red Kites hanging about Muggleswick just outside the village heading East.
@@HorseMalone yeah I've seen them a number of times when I'm out that way. Good to see.
Hi I think that sounds better tbh. Was going to ask you about bars but see you have the cooper b risers. I have them but for comfort I am thinking of putting a new top yoke on and some higher bars. I love the looks of the clip ons but can't ride that far with them especially if going slow.
Yeah I think it does sound better, not that it sounded bad where I had the mic before (although very subjective). The bar risers are just enough for me, even though I liked the feel and look of the standard set up ...just my old bones and joints weren't so keen. However I can imagine in a few years if/when I get a new bike it might have to have a more upright position.
