Can’t wait to show my dad these fantastic videos! Thankyou 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My maternal grandad was a Hague and from whitkirk wonder if we might be related ?? Tina
Pretty sure my Dad would get drunk here and drink drive home.
The disrespect of the past shown by politicians, entrepreneurs is disgusting. There are two types of progress, one good one bad. I see a lot of bad here, in destruction of wonderful buildings, of homes, of railways. Replaced by monstrosities for a fast buck or just removed forever without a thought for the needs of the future. Great video, appalling decisions.
Miss it. Should have been listed. In many cases, progress is just another word for destruction of the past, of memories of community, of history itself. Halfords and Burger king...yeah great (not). And...why did we get rid of trams again?
My old house in this video
I use to have to go get my dad from the pub for is Sunday dinner in 1970s
Had some fantastic meals there with my Mother and sister when it was open, beer was only average though.
As a young man used to go to the Ritz and the Regal every weekend. Later lived in Barwick Road Stanks. Used to bike down to Barnbow, and see the tanks rumbling round the Centurion factory tracks. Marvel that the German bombers never found the place.
strange how the fantastic houses are flattened and replaced with concrete monstrosities yet the churches remain >?? and are still there today empty and deppressing, quality video btw thank you
Loved Crossgates born and lived on Crossgates Lane now l like it but only the old parts thankyou lovely photos.
Exactly gone but not forgotten just like the Peacock at Yeadon
Good memories
I totally agree with a lot of the comments on here. The station looked a lot better back then. I used the station every day during the early to mid 70's to travel into Leeds for work and even then the station was much more attractive than it is today. Today it looks spartan and has no character....
That is a very good video
а тепловоз сзади-похоже для толкания?
Some brilliant photos, nice to see what it was like
Progress is not always needed sometimes its better to doff the hat to history recognise it and keep it going , a sad loss like so many great old leeds pubs
awesome changes around there
Love the old photos ... So much character buildings Back then peaceful..
Had some great Friday nights out at the Melbourne back in the late 60's. Great video taking us back down memory lane.
Interesting piece of nostalgia
Just down the road from where i lived, used to catch the tram to go see my nan
From then and now it looks so fucking shit looks so depressing
It should have been kept as a historical building Council has a tendency to fuck things up
Although I'm not a "local" to this area, I did live in Crossgates (Pendas Fields) between 2001 and 2013. Wonderful to see these older photo's of the area along with sights that are more recognisable. A very happy time of my life and it's good just to reminisce.
I lived in the area in the 1950/60s. So many memories. The station looks so sad now, in the old days there were lovely floral displays. Stations were in competition for the best. I bought my first and last cigarette from the machine on the platform. Woodbine! We attempted to smoke them behind the station!
Seen my old house in this vid too before I moved out of leeds
Hi Phil, my work are looking to put up some old photo's of crossgates in their premises and I was wondering if we could obtain some from you? If you can't do it, could you possibly point me in the right direction for any local history groups who might be able to help. Thanks. Fantastic video by the way, very nostalgic.
over sixty years ago someone threw a bottle at a man whoiducked the bottle hit an innocent bystander and i think it killed him
We used to live in Poplar avenue in 1950/60 and used to play in the railway sidings and run across the metal bridge at the station when a steam train was going past. Simple things but we had fun. Quite nostalgic and sad seeing this.
Yes.... it,s a shadow of the way it was
love the "croft"
i remember that like yesterday what a waste for a bit of chicken and overpriced car repairs
now sadly other side of road gone the same way but at least the tower lives on
1955 shot at 10:23 looks more like 1965. The Hillman Minx approaching is just before the "Arrow", & those look like 1960s cars on the left.
amazing
it looked 100 % better in 1900 than today
Heart breaking to watch!! All for a burger joint 😪😪
Brings back memories from when I lived in Leeds in the 1980s! Brilliant video. Thank you so much.
I guess Im asking randomly but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Seth Reginald instablaster =)
@Ryan Kenzo Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Ryan Kenzo It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy! Thanks so much you saved my account !
@Seth Reginald You are welcome :D
How sad to see the way itwas compared to todays hideous buildings.
This wonderful video production i live in wetherby in my town there has been many loverly old buildings demolished
Jeeze I lived on the blencarns near blacks shops and never went in this pub what a pity , was it like the travelers further up in cross gates.
No...Travellers is a modern build, in comparison.
From cradle to grave.so many memories. Gone but not forgotten.
Last time I was in this pub shortly before it shut the taxi driver that picked me and my brother up reversed into a woman on the way out of the car park and drove off with us in the car pretending not to see her.We shouted to him to no avail. He took us home and said it was his night as a taxi driver and that he was going to live in Australia the next day.Yeh.
Seriously how can someone give this a thumbs down
It was so much tidier back then. People obviously took pride in their properties and streets unlike today's jumbled mess.
it's weird how back in the day the buildings were shitty but the people were nice, now it's the other way round!!
hi Phil enjoyed the film ,my mum mentioned the arcade at cross gates many times when I lived at home and my dad told me storys of going to the gas works for pitch to do the wooden fences or the garden and shed
I will have a look for you.
Phil, do you have any pre 2000 photo's of the junction of Manston Lane and Penda's Way?
Had lots of fun there , shame when they knocked it down , at least the chip shop is still there
i wish people could time travel, it was so much more prettier then
Dean, try going to the Castle Museum at York and see the Victorian and the Edwardian streets. Then when you get home to your modern home it might feel like you've been time travelling!
