We had a lovely visit to Bateman's, best known as the home of Rudyard Kipling and his family from 1902, eventually being left to the National Trust in 1939. There's a lot to see and some wonderful walks. This recording is of the gardens leading to the main entrance of the house.

Ascending the Zig Zag Path onto Selborne Common, Hampshire

We parked behind the Selborne Arms, Selbourne, Hampshire to start our walk up the Zig Zag Path built by Gilbert White and his brother in the late 1700s. The path isn't too steep or hard going, especially if you stop to take in the views.

My mom and dad were married here in May 1944, Dad was killed August 1945. Mom remarried in 1952. Since I was born Oct 1944, I was there both times. I have been there last in 2015. It is still lovely. Thank you.
@@stephenater9687 Awww lovely comments. Thank you for leaving your comment.
A long story short. During covid, my wife was researching her family history. She discovered that her seven times great grandmother had married my seven times great grandfather in St Mary's church, Newton Valance in 1743. That made us fifth cousins. Last year we visited the UK (we're both originally from Haslemere, Surrey but live in Australia) and had a marriage blessing service in the church. The day was just perfect. Weather, friends, family, the vicar, her husband, the churchwarden all combined to make the occasion so very memorable.
@@winders128 what a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing. Just goes to show how the fickle finger of fate works in mysterious ways
Indeed a wonderful view of this beautiful walled garden.
I'm glad you filmed and allowed us to see the breathtaking views at Nymans, West Sussex. Thank you so much for bringing us along. I really enjoyed it.
I plan on visiting the UK next year ( coming from the US ), so thanks for giving me such wonderful ideas for my visit! Graveyards will be amazing.
We're sure you'll enjoy your visit. Plan as much as you can, factoring in time to explore a little will mean you'll get the most of your visit. You might want to 'theme' your visit around cathedral cities. Winchester and Chichester are great smaller cities full of history and located in wonderful countryside.
✨ 'promo sm'
In the Victorian era, especially in the late 1800s, graveyards or cemetries were popular picnic spots in England. Cities did not have public parks or gardens. In earlier times, graveyards were always part of a church and were austere, gloomy places. The new cemeteries were located outside the cities and designed like gardens. By the 1920s, there were more public parks, and cemeteries that were popular picnic spots also brought in 'no picnic' rule.
Nanny Moo Moo (and Papa Dunk), I see a bank of cloud, tree canopy, wonderful views upto St. Martha's Church. The footpath is so narrow! Is it safe? I liked the long display board on which a picture map of the hills was drawn It is lovely to watch both you and the picturesque places; you pan the camera so well. The music is good but I'd rather you describe and give information about what we see all along the walk in your better-than-music musical voice!
Thanks for your comments. The walk was lovely but with some tricky bits especially on the return leg. All but one path was relatively easy but lots of climbing up and down which makes talking harder!
️ ️. I liked everything.
A burial ground is an ancient site, isn't it?
I guess it depends on how people define ancient, or even antique
Great video, thanks for sharing.
What a pity you passed over the plaque to Richard Dimbleby I would have liked to read the dedication .Iremember his voice and manner on radio and on the television from a boy to when I was a man at most big events in the country's history in the 20th century ,His son who carried on his legacy has just retired, that shews my age!!
Thank you for taking time to comment. St Peter's is on one of our regular walks so next time we're there I'll record a 'short' just for you!
A church that I know well and massively significant for its wall paintings and also the brass beneath the carpet! A lovely presentation, thank you.
So nice video and so peaceful place from pakistan

Yes, it was a little like walking through a biblical garden.
Aloha from Hawaii, love your video tours. Mahalo (thank you) Bob
Thanks for your message Bob. Let us know if you are interested in seeing anything in particular. A Hui Hou!
Looking through the 3 very tall Gothic archways we see the characteristic narrow and high Anglo-Saxon archway with non radial voussoirs, belonging to a date at the latest 925AD. It will be easy to determine pre-Norman walls associated with this tall archway since the Saxon wall was in the order of 2 foot 6 inches thick (excepting for the more substantial towers).
I liked everything
