    Hey! I watched this video soon after it came out, and I had some thoughts in the back of my brain eversince. While I enjoyed it for the most part, I wasn't a big fan of the "Right vs left, people vs the elite" section for 2 reasons. 1. I think you coupled wokeism and cancel culture too tightly in your analysis. The way you use the terms suggests that cancel culture is unique to the left and positions the right as less punitive. I think is only true if you use the term in a right-wing colloquial sense. If you define it as something like "boycott person/company due to disagreements about sociopolitical issues", then there are plenty of examples from conservatives doing the same thing - usually cancelling "woke" content (e.g. budwise boycott, steam woke detector). More importantly though right-wing cancel culture is often manifested in a different - more systemic and maybe less online - forms such as proper book censorship (soft/hard bans on books, like Oklahoma HB 1775 and Hungarian anti-LGBT law) or controlled depiction of US millitary, which is why often times it might considered as a completely separate issue. I think to me an attempt at defining the terms (similaly to the "right-wing" def in the beginning) is very much needed from there (though I understand it would probably be very diffcult/lengthy in an already 40+ minute long video). 2. [Note: I'm not really sure if the part where you pose cancel culture as a danger to diversity of thought and intellectual debate is your own thoughts or if it's just a part of the explanation you give of the conservative thought process. I took it as the former while listening to it.] My question would be how do you envision the intellectual debate between sides? Do all topics require to be discussed by people with signifficantly opposing views? I feel like the more experience I have seeing how people formulate and communicate opinions, the less I believe in the existence of this concept and it feels more like an idealisation of democracy and "the art of debate". There's the youtube show "Middle ground", which similarly is based on the idea of the existence of a middle ground on all topics and suggesting that we as viewers will experience some sort of interesting marketplace of ideas between the two sides. Instead more often than not you just hear the same exact pseudo-intellectual opinions and arguments that you can find in any instagram comment section. Even a lot of famous conservative politicians and thinkers just repeat the same stuff (with maybe a more elegant phrasing. Seriously it's baffling to me how people like Jordan Peterson are actual certified psychology professors and shit based on the stuff that can leave their mouths). Other than that though it's really cool to see the vids you make, and yeah I can't even imagine how much time it took you to write, film and edit an almost 50 minute long video-essay. Good stuff!

    • @reallochentos
      @reallochentos 2 місяці тому

      Heyya, long time no see, never thought I will see you again down in my comment section 😂😂. Appreciate the thorough comment. Sadly I am writing this in between a lunch break at work so excuse me if they are not the most eloquently phrased responses but I do want to at least reply to your thoughts as they deserve it. In terms of the cancel culture, wokeism side of things. I never said the right would not have similar social mechanisms in shutting down counter argumentative points, in fact u just need to get on a random 4chan or tbh Twitter page and u can already get the same treatment of being called woke or a social justice warrior just because u stand up for human rights. But what I specifically wanted to highlight is that cancel culture as a phenomenon including the term itself is a left wing thing anti-discourse mechanism that the right has defined and applied onto how extreme leftist resolve social and political debate. And the term became so widespread that all of us know about it even in pop cultural terms online and is usually associated with the left. The right is basically radicalising itself even more in response to left wing radicalisation which increases polarisation in our societies. For your point on debate, the problem that I highlight about the polarisation of our politics due to increasing anti-discourse trends on both aisles of the political spectrum causes the growing inability for us to practice democracy and I guess a closer version to intellectual political debate. Like the fact the Middle Ground show is getting filled with polarised opinions and that people like Jordan Peterson gets so much attention is a simple sign of what I just said. People getting more polarised and radicalised and they want to hear people representing the thoughts of their camps that attacks the other side. Even if you just compare the Harris v Trump debate to the VP debate in the US there is such a clear distinction between where there is a functional democratic debating format where you can propose opposing views in a much more nuanced or at least less moralising and professional manner compared whatever that shitshow was that Harris and Trump did that once again just shows where our politics are heading. I am not saying you are wrong, your observations basically align with mine, I guess I just didnt drive my point across clearly that my problem with cancel culture type social trends is that it polarises and radicalises us even more that leads to the inability for normal debate that you also pointed out as impossible nowadays. Hope this is comprehensive enough, have to get back to work. Thanks a lot for watching again, tune back in for my next vid as well haha

    • @mateszebenyi8343
      @mateszebenyi8343 2 місяці тому

      @@reallochentos Oh yeah same tbh haha. I thought it might be akward to just randomly drop a comment but I thought "why not". I definitely think that the social trend you're describing exists in some shape or form, and I have had similar thoughts/concerns in the past. Lot of conservatives definitely do believe that they are being censored/silenced - Musk bought Twitter based on this whole premise (...and then turned it around completely lmao). I guess my point is that while I agree with the notion that the right is using these terms to further radicalise itself as a counter-trend, this by itself does not necessitate that it's these trends that are to blame for the things we see today. I think the term cancel culture and wokism are more of a scapegoat (just two out of many the right has), and in some ways I think it's more common that the right uses this talking to point to shift focus away from more pressing political/economic conversations (not to say that those topics are less important but usually the question is just "Should these people have rights?", and it distracts people from discussing the status quo and stuff like the clearly not working meritocratic ideology). So yeah I think you're right, we have a similar view. You also framed the discussion more around how the right is treating these terms for their own talking points. I think the only thing that felt off to me then is that it felt like the terms have been used more in accordance to the right wing def - and reinforcing that perspective feels like endorsment to a certain level or making the counter-trend look somewhat justified. (But that might just be how it sounded to me) Anyway, looking forward to your next vids haha

    There are a few problems I have with this video. First of all, government intervention in the economy increases inequality, you can see this in China. Second of all, this video doesn't differentiate between the different types of immigration. The rightwing stance towards high skilled legal immigration is completely different to their stance to low skilled illegal immigration. Also there is a reason why immigrants are associated with security, it's because illegal immigrants do actually commit a disproportionate amount of crime. If every immigrant that came in was a highly educated law abiding citizen, racist sentiments would definitely be more muted. Finally, it is true that immigrants struggle to assimilate to many European countries which create social tension.

    • @uslph.

      "you can see this in China" and "its the immigrant's fault that people are racist" truly authentic bangers of contemporary thought.

    • @PhucMi1
      @PhucMi1 2 місяці тому

      even "low skilled immigrants" deserve to have a fair chance, many of them are just as hardworking and honest as many working class people in our country. Our country needs "low skilled" workers like truck drivers and construction workers. Also does it even matter if they don't assimilate? If they learn English and have a job does it matter if they are muslim, hindu, buddhist, chinese, asian, black, whatever? Unlike what most right-wingers say, having cultural diversity is not a bad thing.

    • @reallochentos
      @reallochentos 2 місяці тому

      Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts in at least a more respectful manner, really appreciate that! In terms of government intervention increasing inequality, I am not sure what you are referring to in the China case, as an uptick of inequality increase happened gradually when the country opened itself for more of a capitalist model in the 1970s as lot of people got rich from booming global business opportunities and large foreign capital investments into Special Economic Zones. It opened China for an economic miracle but resulted in lots of unequal outcomes. Also, based on just unemployment data and economic performance in America during Keynesian times show that inequality was much lower compared to when a neoliberal system shaped in the 70s (same when China opened up to the West). With the security and race issue with immigrants the problem is that even if your statement on illegal immigrants committing a lot of crimes, the narratives around them still focus on race which then will make them to be associated with a given race. That then brings more policing and surveillance on certain groups of people who might be "highly educated law abiding citizens" according to your description but unfortunately having the same race as the people who are usually considered illegal immigrants. And yes, the assimilation issue is something I am still trying to figure out what could be a working model.

    • @dontaskmewhy266
      @dontaskmewhy266 2 місяці тому

      @@reallochentos I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear enough about China, I can elaborate. The economic model in China is quite heavily based around government intervention, and I have noticed a trend with that. The government is indirectly redistributing wealth from the bottom up, through things like Industrial policy and currency manipulation. It's an economic model that sacrifices equality for economic growth. And the point I am trying to make with this example is that in many cases government involvement in the economy tends to benefit the more wealthy. You can see this in action with what is currently going on in the US. The American government is intruding tariffs on China, and Industrial policy. This will make life more expensive for the average person while enriching the companies. Also another concept that I would like to expose you to is the fact that a lot of old money supports, more government intervention. This is because regulation and intervention in the economy increases the barrier to entry for aspiring businesses and secures their position at the top. It also increases social stability which is good for them since they don't want a revolution. You may not agree with this but Im just putting it out there.

    • @dontaskmewhy266
      @dontaskmewhy266 2 місяці тому

      @@reallochentos I agree that a lot of this conversation is focused on race and it's a problem. The problem is that the negative feedback loop already started. A part of the illegal migrant population commits crime, which invokes racism in the local population which invokes hate in the immigrant population, and the cycle goes on. And the problem with integration I think is specific to mainland Europe. When it comes to the US, and UK, they spread their culture a lot. English is the most spoken language, and American popular culture is adopted all around the world. When it comes to mainland Europe there are a lot of countries with very specific, traditionalist and often exclusionary cultures which don't handle migration well.
