    Growing up around trains gave me an appreciation for their sheer size and power. I always exercise caution around railroad tracks. Even the tracks by my house. Those tracks see maybe 1 train a day and trains only go 10 mph. I saw many close calls, and even saw the aftermath of a grade crossing accident on the same rail line that trains go 10 mph! You may think that a train going 10 mph will never hit anything, but you'd be wrong. I talked to a railroad worker operating a rail maintenance vehicle. He told me a lady in a Suburban crossed the tracks right in front of him. The impact busted out all her Suburban's windows. He was only traveling 10 mph. Stay at least 20 or more feet away from tracks, and never assume another train will not show up on the 2nd track right in front of you. There is a clip of a cop trying to drive across the tracks and didn't realize a 2nd train was barreling down and his cruiser was slammed into. Always expect a train on any track at any time. Trains don't run a set schedule. Just because a train goes through at one time, doesn't mean every day it will be the same. Even the line through my town, trains come through at different times each day and or night.

    I like how the scene in 8:54 the 2 EMDs are a Burkington Northern unit leading and a Santa Fe unit trailing. For those who dont get it the 2 railroads merged to BNSF.

      Yep. Before I got my first BNSF HO-scale locomotive, on my model train layout I'd sometimes have a Santa Fe locomotive hooked up to a Burlington Northern one to reflect the merger.

    This is my worst nightmare. I'm so afraid that one of my friends or family will make a stupid decision and try to beat a train, go around closed gates, or cross tracks illegally, and have it backfire. I'm trackside a lot. I'm a railfan. I wouldn't want to see anyone lose their life to a train because they made a bad choice. So please... Stay off the tracks.

    A few months ago, a Metra Rock Island train struck a vehicle near 107th and Vincennes. The driver of the vehicle had his wife and child in the car with him. The driver decided to drive around the lowered crossing gates. The inbound train was coming at 79 mph, and struck the vehicle on impact. Everyone in the car was killed. That same weekend, a CSX freight train struck a vehicle in East Chicago, Indiana. The same type of incident happened. The driver of the vehicle decided to drive around the gates, and the freight train struck the vehicle on impact. The piece of advice for all drivers is to wait until the train has passed. When it comes to a train vs. car incident, the train always wins. Use common sense, and think when around railroad crossings

    I'm not one of those guys who trespass on railroad property. I don't walk on railroad tracks, put things on the tracks, throw things at trains, play on or inside railroad cars, walk on bridges that trains use, or even walk through train tunnels. No one should try any of these things. They could get injured, or even worse, get killed. Trespassing on railroad property is not only against the law, but it's also *very* dangerous.

      +Amster Huo So then..... if I carried out your logic to its ultimate conclusion, if I were a private property owner, and a minor child trespassed on my land, I would then have the right to retaliate against them by killing them in the most gruesome manner possible?

    • @DowntownWithBrown
      @DowntownWithBrown 8 років тому

      Some railroads have their own police organizations. The only times when pedestrians have the right of way are on certain tram systems (like the MBTA Green Line) at intersections where trams stop to allow motor vehicles and pedestrians to traverse the cross street. Otherwise, trains have the highest priority at intersections where they need to be considered (including shortening pedestrian walk times when they approach crossings at or near lighted intersections).

    Smartest girl in the school doesn't mean jack when you do that. You can be prodigious like her, but you get yourself killed by doing something so incredibly stupid and I call you an idiot. Good grades won't stop a train. 8:40 Tracy, given that he is the same cop who called you off like five minutes ago, I don't think he's gonna let you off with a warning this time. You can see if you can use your brains to educate some fellow prisoners. Also, I'm not TOO familiar with older signals, but today, green over green means there's something not right.

Call me a coward, but I wouldn't risk crossing the cops twice in one day. I knew that was going to happen. It's good writing: they show her as so successful so the viewer knows just how much she threw away. Though when you think about what happened to Byron, she is damn lucky!
