Growing up around trains gave me an appreciation for their sheer size and power. I always exercise caution around railroad tracks. Even the tracks by my house. Those tracks see maybe 1 train a day and trains only go 10 mph. I saw many close calls, and even saw the aftermath of a grade crossing accident on the same rail line that trains go 10 mph! You may think that a train going 10 mph will never hit anything, but you'd be wrong. I talked to a railroad worker operating a rail maintenance vehicle. He told me a lady in a Suburban crossed the tracks right in front of him. The impact busted out all her Suburban's windows. He was only traveling 10 mph. Stay at least 20 or more feet away from tracks, and never assume another train will not show up on the 2nd track right in front of you. There is a clip of a cop trying to drive across the tracks and didn't realize a 2nd train was barreling down and his cruiser was slammed into. Always expect a train on any track at any time. Trains don't run a set schedule. Just because a train goes through at one time, doesn't mean every day it will be the same. Even the line through my town, trains come through at different times each day and or night.
I wish people would remember that train crews half to live with that for the rest of their lives knowing that that took someone's life that is not fualt of theirs
I like how the scene in 8:54 the 2 EMDs are a Burkington Northern unit leading and a Santa Fe unit trailing. For those who dont get it the 2 railroads merged to BNSF.
Yep. Before I got my first BNSF HO-scale locomotive, on my model train layout I'd sometimes have a Santa Fe locomotive hooked up to a Burlington Northern one to reflect the merger.
This is my worst nightmare. I'm so afraid that one of my friends or family will make a stupid decision and try to beat a train, go around closed gates, or cross tracks illegally, and have it backfire. I'm trackside a lot. I'm a railfan. I wouldn't want to see anyone lose their life to a train because they made a bad choice. So please... Stay off the tracks.
Too bad he didn't know the proper procedure for getting on a car. By no means should you go train-hopping, but I find that not knowing how to ride the car by its stirrup led to this being his last day
A few months ago, a Metra Rock Island train struck a vehicle near 107th and Vincennes. The driver of the vehicle had his wife and child in the car with him. The driver decided to drive around the lowered crossing gates. The inbound train was coming at 79 mph, and struck the vehicle on impact. Everyone in the car was killed. That same weekend, a CSX freight train struck a vehicle in East Chicago, Indiana. The same type of incident happened. The driver of the vehicle decided to drive around the gates, and the freight train struck the vehicle on impact. The piece of advice for all drivers is to wait until the train has passed. When it comes to a train vs. car incident, the train always wins. Use common sense, and think when around railroad crossings
Would u walk in the middle of a freeway? Nooo. Would u walk in the path of a tank? Nooo. Then how r train tracks any different? Still the same danger so why do it. Bunch of idiots. I feel bad for the families that have lost people due to this tragedy but play stupid games win stupid prizes, especially if the sign says no trespassing.
Hey all such a cautionary tale... Byron could be anyone I played the lead and learned a lot thx for all comments... I have children now that watch... comedy put the candy in the medicine! Thank you to all my fellow actors and staff such great memories! Lmelow aka Byron.
As a freight conductor. It never gets easier. You never see the impact, but you can hear the dull thud from in the cab over the roar of the engine. And the walk back is the worst feeling in the world knowing a life just ended and there was nothing you could do to prevent it. The vision never leaves. You just get used to working past it.
For you young actors, this is where you start. I got paid $200 a day for 4 days and I didn’t work every day. Didn’t get the lead because I’m not a comedian. Work hard youngsters. BTW, being 22 in high school for 3 days sucks!
I personally did much more than those morons shown there: trainsurfing and trainhopping, has once almost been electrocuted on the roof of a car, but what that stupid bitch was doing - walking on the track whilst listening to the music - is the worst. NOTHING else would kill you sooner than this!
Wtat a bunch of morons! Do not hop on the train, if you have no skill. Do not climb it either. And above all - do not WALK in between in two rails with you ears filled with noisy music. It is remarkabal that an "educated fool" girl is dumber than everyone else depicted. Do US common schools promote utmost stupidity?
zombieguy1987 My guess is that when his legs were dangling from grabbing onto the ladder, they swung under the trucks (terminology for rail car axle) when he lost his grip. For obvious reasons, the amputation itself was off-camera.
I'm not one of those guys who trespass on railroad property. I don't walk on railroad tracks, put things on the tracks, throw things at trains, play on or inside railroad cars, walk on bridges that trains use, or even walk through train tunnels. No one should try any of these things. They could get injured, or even worse, get killed. Trespassing on railroad property is not only against the law, but it's also *very* dangerous.
KeeferJ 1995 Well i guess you weren’t a guy in the ‘90s. It was real, and it still happens. Before i took this gig, I was on a train bridge next to m6 school in Decatur, IL. Trains are scary-powerful! They also provide the straightest distance between two points. Don’t judge, just learn. Peace!

"Couldn't we walk on the sides of the tracks?" "That requires logic!" I get that you're not supposed to do it at all, but at least it's better than standing right in the middle of the tracks T__T
Garr1984- it takes the average train up to a mile to come to a complete stop. And engineers or conductors can't see the entire length Except passenger trains.
I hear that mile reverence all the time but people don't think about the trains speed considering the engineer can apply the brakes from the rear it could be a little shorter than a mile.
wait a minute...... don't pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way? That engineer is a murderer and should hang, and then burn in darkest hell for all eternity.
+Amster Huo So then..... if I carried out your logic to its ultimate conclusion, if I were a private property owner, and a minor child trespassed on my land, I would then have the right to retaliate against them by killing them in the most gruesome manner possible?
+Amster Huo, I just think that since Railroad Tracks are supposed to be off-limits... The train people need to do far more than they are doing to keep people off them.
Some railroads have their own police organizations. The only times when pedestrians have the right of way are on certain tram systems (like the MBTA Green Line) at intersections where trams stop to allow motor vehicles and pedestrians to traverse the cross street. Otherwise, trains have the highest priority at intersections where they need to be considered (including shortening pedestrian walk times when they approach crossings at or near lighted intersections).
Smartest girl in the school doesn't mean jack when you do that. You can be prodigious like her, but you get yourself killed by doing something so incredibly stupid and I call you an idiot. Good grades won't stop a train. 8:40 Tracy, given that he is the same cop who called you off like five minutes ago, I don't think he's gonna let you off with a warning this time. You can see if you can use your brains to educate some fellow prisoners. Also, I'm not TOO familiar with older signals, but today, green over green means there's something not right.
"Smartest girl / Good grades" - not really. Just an EDUCATED FOOL! Indeed, she is dumb as fuck. What about grades - in many aspects all you need is abilitiy to memorize and then recall you memories, no THINKING is vital.
And even worse, she gets off with a warning and then proceeds to do the EXACT SAME THING she nearly got written up for the first time! Call me a coward, but I wouldn't risk crossing the cops twice in one day. I knew that was going to happen. It's good writing: they show her as so successful so the viewer knows just how much she threw away. Though when you think about what happened to Byron, she is damn lucky!
There are a few revealing mistakes at times, given the fairly low budget on this video. One of my favorites is when the freight train at the crossing starts moving, in the shot at 10:20 when Byron loses his balance and falls to his demise, the train's not even moving!
There was a famous hobo that used to post videos on his UA-cam channel, that climbed off of a stopped freight train. When he got on the ground and went to the next train he was killed by an Amtrak train on the adjacent track.
There's no doubt that girl got a citation the second time she walked on the tracks...
Growing up around trains gave me an appreciation for their sheer size and power. I always exercise caution around railroad tracks. Even the tracks by my house. Most of the time the engineer cannot see you and they have to deal with the tragedy after.
@@carlstclair9920 OR WORSE STILL: lock eyes with their victims as they hit and kill them.
Exactly and this is why I gave up my dream to be a freight engineer cuz I probably suffered from PTSD 😔😔

HOW WAS BYRON KILLED WHILE TRYING TO CLIMB ON TO A FREIGHT CAR.
Elizabeth Morton The cars tend to jolt as they begin moving due to their couplers stretching and it can knock you off balance if you are not careful
Train wheels are blades that can slice through human flesh like hot butter.
Geez Byron, passenger trains make better personal taxis than freight trains!
freights are free and you can hop on anywhere way easier if your not stupid and know what you're doing.
