Hey @ShootTheCore Do you know if the mistercade’s hd15 port is safe to use with a consumer CRT?
I cannot even get balena to download. Tried two different laptops? Any idea?
You should do one for the new version Dual RAM V2
The manual has allot to be desired.
I setup everything the way you showed me in this video. The games are running fine on the HD tv. But when I take it to the arcade the screen just keeps scaling up. Even when I adjust it to stay still, as soon as I start playing it slowly starts doing it again. I can see the lower part of the screen image over my head in the game. How can I stop it from doing that?
In the new update you don't need to change the .ini name just copy the file you need and drop it into the root file.
Thanks!
Hi, thanks a lot for your tutorial I have a question I am using a mistercade in an Egret 2 cabinet I can't have Stereo sound at a decent volume (it is very soft) I've checked software output level, level pot on the mistercade, and output level on the egret 2 (i've also checked the bypass switch on the mister) it seems sound is not amplified enough (but i've used some stereo PCB on that egret cabinet with no problem would you have any idea, please ? thanks
Hi, Great video! I didn't get about which C board is fully compatible. I might have a donor board with a 92641C-1 C board with an original battery-backed. Is it compatible with the CPS1 multi or it need to be modded?
Nice demo of the 16500A :)
any source on replacing the power board up top?
10:58 what you came to see.
awesome video thank you
Where did you / how did you get the wire connector to connect your genesis/mega drive? I am trying to troubleshoot a Model 2 Sega CD but its so annoying with the genesis requiring to be ontop.
Man…. What a bunch of wires😂 It woud be usefull if someone with FPGA knowledge would build a board that can capture all TTL edge transitions and then with a app on pc to show the read and write of thats mapped with the address. Good luck with the debugging!
Man, I hope my Shinobi is the right version!
this accepts a coin in the machine like an actual arcade machine?
Yes, the Coin trigger on the mechanism shows up in MiSTer as a button, so you can bind a Coin insert to any input the game supports - including the Coin input for the console cores. You could insert a coin on a console core to pause the game for example. :-)
Thank you for making this video.
Far too expensive but still cool.
Thank you so much. I been looking for this exact tutorial. You rock!!
Great video but I followed your guide but when I went to plug in the mistercade it won’t power on my Astro city
Double-check that all the connections are tight and also try changing the jumper on the MiSTercade that selects whether it's powered by your arcade PSU's 5V or 12V line to the other setting from where it is currently.
Are the dips working per game now? Are there any issues leaving them setup for one game or is it advisable to set them all to off before booting up each game? Cheers
Since each CPS game is running the original code, the DIP switches need to be set appropriately per-game whenever you switch titles. Most CPS games use similar settings so you shouldn't have to change them too much. Mitsurugi-X on the AP forums sells various DIP switch extensions that make it easier to access the DIPs if need be.
Hello. In 2023, what should I buy for FPGA arcade emulatoion????
MiSTer is still your best option currently for FPGA arcade emulation.
My model 1 has been fully recapped, and works almost 99% perfect. The one and only issue which we cannot figure out is why during some games there’s whooshing sound artifacts, usually when an fmv is going on and the characters sounds like there’s slight swishing compressed sounds around their voice as they speak. Do you offer repair service at all to find out what’s wrong?
That's an interesting problem - I'd like to see a video clip or two to get a better idea of what the sound is like. The Model 1 Sega CD has several audio DAC components on the small daughterboard at the back, and I'd focus on that area for audio troubleshooting - there may be an OpAmp, capacitor, or resistor in that section that's bad or has a broken trace. Sorry, I do not offer repair services at this time - I'm already backlogged for months with repair work.
Fantastic video. Thanks for the reassurance that I did everything correctly. I went from the JAMMIX to MisterCade and had to tweak the files slightly. But it all worked out. 🙂
Are there any mistercade for jvs?
Not yet, but several developers are working on JVS MiSTer hats.
@@ShootTheCore I saw one shop on ali promtinig a mister fpga with jvs but for the love of god I can not find this shop again and googling does not help at all. Anyway thank your for your response.
Thanks for all the videos. Subbed
I know this is a bit old, but I was wondering....I am receiving a black screen, but my green light is still on. If I understood right the black screen would appear if there is no green light? I am just trying to get this multi work since I already flashed the modules
The green light tells you that the Multi PCB is receiving power at least. If you're getting a black screen even after trying selecting several different games, here's a few things to check: 1) Measure the 5V rail on the JAMMA edge with a multimeter and make sure that your power supply is providing the board with 5.0V of power. 2) Make sure that Multi PCB is fully seated against the Namco mainboard all the way around - it takes some pressure to get the pins to seat into the sockets all the way. 3) Make sure the flash modules all verify against the original files correctly. 4) Make sure each flash module is installed into the correct spot on the Multi PCB. 5) Make sure all DIP switches on the Namco mainboard are switched off. Different games use different DIP settings and settings that work for one game may cause another to freeze. 6) Make sure the CPU and PAL chips are still present and installed properly in the sockets of the upper-left corner of the Namco daughterboard (7:30 in the video). 7) Make sure the Namco PCB jumper JP3 is set to F (8:10 in the video).
Thanks for the great video!! I have question: i have a jamma expander which is the same as Mister and I still don’t know how to activate the coin function !! Any idea ? Thank you
I haven’t used the JAMMA Expander myself but if it works like the MiSTercade, you should be able to pull up the MiSTer Menu, go right one screen, and choose Bind Controls. As you step through the control bindings one by one, when it asks for a Coin binding, drop a coin into you cab.
Where do I download the rompack with non encrypted files ? I can't find it. please help.
Go to archive dot org and search for Darksoft multipacks
A 1 in a trillion chance that the ancient files you needed were sitting in your hard drive. Amazing. I can never find schematics , customized parts. What's your secret?
Thanks for this. (especially the switch explainations) Sure I could just 'RTFM' but having it explained gives me time to carefully pick my options while I'm putting this thing together.
大変参考になりました。ありがとう。
Thanks for the video and documentation. Very helpful and appreciated. Could the adding of the mister ini (15khz Yoko) kill the hdmi out? I just get a black screen on hdmi. Also I don’t get any arcade roms loading. Could it be they’re aren’t part of the update all as of June ‘22?
Most HDMI displays don’t support 15khz (320x240) resolution, so that’s likely why you’re not seeing anything from your HDMI port. As for the arcade ROMs, make sure you’re running the update_all script and not just the regular update script. I built a fresh MiSTer last week and update_all still downloaded all of the arcade ROMs for me properly.
@@ShootTheCore okay thanks for the quick reply. I’ll have to figure out why the system can’t find the arcade roms after a fresh install.
@@ShootTheCore I just had to hit up arrow before the update all started and flip the MAME Getter. ✅
@@critterarcade excellent!
@UC3faVp03qcy9WpyyJLYvKtQ when the mister is running the update all, you have a couple of seconds to hit an arrow key (can’t recall which) that goes into further settings. There you can enable MAME Gettr that download the Roms. You can select other stuff too.
just what i needed. thank you so much for your work putting this video together!
Thanks!
Where can I find all the roms?
Archive dot org
Any idea when these will be available for sale again? Just got on the "notify me" list.
Perfect timing, mine just arrived today, thank you for making this!
Your installation videos are my most valuable resource when installing a new Multi - thanks man!
Haven't watched the entire vid yet, but does the CPS1 Darksoft multi play nice with the Lions3 acrylic kits? I'm guessing no...
I haven’t tried it first-hand, but I believe the current CPS1 Lions3 kit has to be modified (cut) to accommodate the Multi. Kits specifically designed for the Multi are coming though!
Great video will use this for reference when mine arrives thanks for uploading.
Nice & easy installationn! Great video ✌🏻👏🏻
Super interesting stuff! Thanks for putting this together!
I have a Japanese Namco version of the board, is the layout different between the Atari and Namco System 1 boards?
Sorry for the slow response - I didn't see your question until now. There is no layout difference between the Atari and Namco System 1 boards, so you're good to go with the Multi.
I designed the FlashcatUSB XPORT. Its interesting to see all of the various projects people use it for.
Easy greasy. It is a shame that there is no real money in this industry. Go and become a dentist or something you will make more money, deal with a better class of people and likely be happier too. All the best buddy 5☆
Can I ask how you wired 12V in your E2 to the Mistercade? I only have Egret 2 cabs and I don't want to hack up the original Taito PSU. Cheers again.
12V is already present on every stock JAMMA harness - no hacking necessary. Original JAMMA games use 12V to power the sound circuits and speakers. Just plug the MiSTercade into your stock E2 harness and power on! :-)
@@ShootTheCore fab. Thanks. I've misunderstood and belived you had to hack the 12v line for some reason. Appreciate the clarification.
This is excellent. Thanks.
What are the considerations for a supergun? Is there any way to do stereo audio over Jamma?
A SuperGun is designed to connect a JAMMA arcade board up to a consumer TV. The MiSTercade will work with a SuperGun if you have one but it’s easier and cheaper to just hook MiSTer up to a consumer TV directly without using either a SuperGun or the MiSTercade add-on hat. As for stereo over JAMMA, the standard doesn’t allow for it - it’s Mono only.
@@ShootTheCoream I right in understanding that all cores output Stereo, but via Jamma it is mono only? And the only way to get Stereo, is to bypass the Jamma connector? And the way to bypass that is to either plug something in to the RCA jack or the 3.5mm Mini jack? So I theory, you could have an astro city, which is mono only. Set up a mistercade, then replace the existing crappy speakers with a 2.1 system, power that up separately, and plug in to the mistercade mini jack - and you're good to go?
@@sinetwo MiSTer itself has stereo audio, but much of the hardware that MiSTer cores simulate was mono back in the day. With the MiSTer’s current arcade cores for example, Capcom CPS1.5 and CPS2 are pretty much the only stereo cores-everything else is mono. Likewise, all JAMMA arcade cabs are designed to support mono sound through the harness with an amplifier on the game board itself. Only a few JAMMA cabs (Astro City is one of them) also supported stereo audio amplified via a dedicated amp inside the cab. Original game boards would send both amplified mono audio over JAMMA and line-level stereo through RCA ports simultaneously. Cabs with a stereo amp typically have a switch to flip the speaker output between dual mono board-amp-driven audio and stereo cab-amp-driven audio. MiSTercade acts the same as an original stereo JAMMA board - it outputs amplified mono audio through the JAMMA harness and line-level dual mono or stereo audio (depending on the core) through RCA ports simultaneously. Hope that answers your question!
@@ShootTheCore thanks so much. I find it so odd that stereo wasn't a primary consideration at the time, but I appreciate that earlier it may have been in the transition period. Or arcades were just too loud to care. As far as I'm aware, the OG Astro City is mono by default. New Astro City is stereo. But with this setup, it sounds like I could get the OG AC, rip out the crappy speakers, install a small 2.1 system, and just run the audio via the breakout on the Mister board.
My X'Eye hangs on some games and works fine with others. The issue as well is that the audio is all messed up like the Zilog is the only thing producing audio. For instance in ecco CD CD audio works but the only sound effect that works is jumping out of the water. I am perplexed. I cannot boot any master system games using my Everdrive as well, which at first made me think the Z80 or it's SRAM.
First off, it’s normal behavior for Master System games to not work on the X’Eye. It doesn’t switch over to Master System mode with either of my two X’Eyes-I’ve tried both an Everdrive and with original carts going through a converter and no dice. How does audio work for your carts? Do you get music and SFX on carts, or only one or the other?
@@ShootTheCore I appreciate the reply. This issue started a few months back. I get no audio on carts, so playing Ecco the Dolphin I don't even get the sfx of jumping out the water I get with Ecco CD. Here is an upload of the X'Eye running the Model 2 Bios. I tried this out as I have a model 2 sega cd and gave me some sort of comparison as to what sfx are missing. ua-cam.com/video/h0VI3SC7p2c/v-deo.html
@@tuffasgong oh man, that BIOS music sounds awful! You have an unusual problem and I don’t have a straightforward answer for you on the cause of it. I could be something has failed internally on the sound chip or maybe one of the audio mixing OpAmps is failing The newest 240p Test Suite has a hardware test that’ll test the Z80 functionality and verify the Z80 RAM. Since you have an Everdrive, try loading it up and see what the test says. www.patreon.com/posts/61481934
@@ShootTheCore Ya it sounds not right for sure! Passed all the tests. So Z80 seems good. If it is something with the sound chip would that cause it to not load certain games? For instance Sonic 1 and Gunstar Heroes won't load just black screen (both original carts and Everdrive) while shining force golden axe etc. Load fine just no sound. All the capacitors look good nothing bulging. I appreciate your help trying to problem solve this.
