What you can expect to see on my channel, I am a small engine mechanic by trade, there will videos on some of the problems that are seen everyday in my shop working in this field. However after business hours, I am just an ordinary country boy at heart that enjoys going to old farm equipment auctions, swap meets, junk yards, taking a drive on old back roads looking for sitting treasures in the weeds, fields, and old barns for vintage garden tractors, mowers, snowblowers, and more to get running and bring back to life, you will be seeing some "will it run again" videos for this. I also like to work on classic tractors, and own a small fleet of Farmall tractors and have a couple of Fords as well. I wish I could keep all of my finds... but sometimes I fix them and restore them for my own personal collection. But then sometimes fix them up and sell them.

Great video. We have a 9N that will be needing breaks soon also. I'm afraid that the brakes are going to look a lot like yours when we pull those hubs off. Thank you for the video
@@VentureWayward Thanks for watching and enjoying the content!
I'm liking the series. I just bought a 1940 9n and am fixing to do as you are. This is very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! I have a long way to go with this restoration, but we will get there. I also have an 8N that will be a restoration coming later.
That's not vacuum, it's pressure pump for checking pop off pressure.
That pin needs a washer in the front and 2 or 3 in the back.
Thank you, for this information. It didn't have them when I disassembled them. I will be replacing them anyway when I get a new bumper to go on the front of it.
One man brake bleed kit will work for it, cost about twenty on Amazon and will do your brakes, obviously, as well
I've seen those work for this.
@shawsgarage7795 I have one I use for anything I need a low volume of vacuum for. I'm always on the lookout to combine tool uses to keep from having to buy more cause boy it adds up
Not have a drink yet bud?
I always used a tool made by Lungs . Its universal..
Wrenching keeps you from over torking
😅 I always shake it when I'm done 👍🏻!😂
I've seen that setup on a golf cart engine. I think it was a Suzuki
Can’t find that tool can I get more info please
@scoobycermak6923 I just posted a link in the description content. You copy and paste it in Amazon it will take you right to it.
Question: do I have to drain it for oil before tilting it?
@terjegrov2013 some people do some dont. I like to drain the oil if it is going to be tilted a long period of time, so it doesn't fill the side plate cover on the side of the block where the valve are with oil. That can make it smoke when you start it, or pull over hard until the oil drains back down in the sump.
Brilliant! Those sell cheap when found anymore too!
So upside down with 5 psi input? You mentioned vacuum?
Test with carb upside down so float is down with needle resting in the seat. I use the psi scale because it's red and I see it better at 5psi. Or 3 bars in the black scale.
@ thanks!!
Yeah, that's a pressure pop-off pump, not a vacuum pump...
cool
great bbuiilt
Thank you! It works great.
Love it
That was very interesting, I recognize some of the parts. Thank you for passing on the information that you had received from another fellow. You were fortunate to know him. I wished I could have met him. Thanks again for your interesting video.
@@edwardchristian6337 You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing
That’s a beautiful unit!
Thank you!
I’ve never seen a 208. Only 207s. 2156175SM is that fuel cap number
did you take the fuel inlet fitting out? There is a screen filter in it that is probably clogged also since the seat was clogged.....good video
Yes I took it out. There was not a filter in it at that time. Now it has one.
Wait if there's more meat on the rubber ring, wouldn't there be even more "bite"
Correct! If the disk is thicker, it has more material to put psi on the psi plate .
I have one of those, it's a19HP I bought in 2012 new and still going strong. The earlier ones had some problems and mine uses almost zero oil and gets regular oil changes. The top cover bolts are regularly checked and have never come lose. I guess I got one of the good ones.
@Don_ECHOguy I will definitely agree that every once in a while, you get one of these engines that have no issues. Proper maintenance helps with any engine in the long run.
That's a nice lookin little tractor! I am currently working on an early 60's Allice Chalmers B-1. Turning it into a snow plow rig.
We are currently trying to make a deal on getting a 1963 B1 as we speak. It has been sitting since the early 90's . We will be bringing it home if we can get the owner to sell it to us.
This repair needs to be done in the summer and not wait until winter 😊😊😊
@philliphall5198 I agree, I advertise fall tune-up specials for people to get their snowblower in for service, so it is ready to go that 1st snowfall . But there is an old saying... you can lead a horse to water, but it doesn't mean he will take a drink.
And thats when you grind down the end of the valve stem and keep on trucking!
@danbrown7355 valve job is done and out the door.
I have 1 of those
I found a 210 with a rust free 46" deck 2 years ago that sat in a barn for years. It was built in 1983 and is in original condition. It used some oil so I replaced the piston and rings after a quick hone. They are very reliable and quiet for their age. I love keeping the old stuff going
I just dragged mine out to get it ready for snow. Still had gas in it from last year but I shut off the fuel and ran the carb out of gas. I was very surprised that after I mixed in some fresh gas that it started on its first pull!
Hope they’ll be some videos
Lol that style kohler are like a pop can ever since that style come out Iv fixed so many that had cracked cases or that have blown up! I like the style previously before these and the older ones !
After much trial and error the ignition system finally works perfectly. I was having issues with the engine backfiring and sheering the flywheel pin, Thinking it through I took the ABS sensor and replaced it with a Magnetic Pickup MPU Speed Sensor it has allowed the engine to run normally at high RPM, The ABS sensor somehow limited the RPM's and would through the timing off making it backfire . some thing to consider it you can not give full throttle without it backfiring or per-igniting. Now it runs smooth and has no problems what-so-ever going from idle to full throttle or from pulling heavy loads. Oh yeah this is on the HH160 I have 2 Tecumseh motors and 3 Bolens tractors the OH160 is fine. Tecumseh is one strong engine! Again thanks for saving mine from the scrap pile or the decomposing pile as my buddy calls it.
Thank you for supplying this information. It sounds like the sensor you used has better pick up to trigger response to the coil than the ABS sensor. What is the MPU sensor off you used if you would let us know that are running the ABS sensors.
Another great video. Enjoy the videos
Did you do any other work for the tractor? How much horsepower did you gain?
I went through and rebuilt the cylinder head and did some port work on it also. Between doing that and the manifold, when I took it out and pulled with it after doing the work it was a different animal. I am not sure how much HP I gained. I also bumped the govornor up to 2100. I am guessing I am close to 30HP. Pretty good gain from the 23HP. The head I put on and reworked is also off a C. The original super C head was cracked.
cool , great to know
What a sweet lil machine
Cuz it's a Honda that's why it's still runs. My parents have an Aryan snowblower from the 1950s that still runs
Wouldnt that be caused by adding tension to the ring? It would lose more material the tighter you make it. It may get you through a "season" but its not fixing the problem
You have to have some tension on the friction disk to make contact on the psi plate. Not so much where it will cause pre mature wear. But enough to wear if the wheel and psi plate get wet, you will not lose traction. I agree that if it's worn, you can adjust your drive cable to put more tension on the psi plate. But it is only a band-aid on a worn disk.
@@shawsgarage7795 heard that friend
also check the sump bolts that are under the flywheel
That was my first mower i bought in 1981 at age 11 from a neighbor for 40 dollars to cut lawns.
I recommend using Pig mats under there so you don't have all that mess on your floor
@darylhudson777 I have mats similar to those. I just wanted it to be easy to see how it removes the grease. I thought it would show up better on a grey concrete floor for video purposes.
@shawsgarage7795 if that was your reasoning you could have put down some white linoleum. Easier to clean.
Can these motors be rebuilt? Or replaced...
You can rebuild these engines, but the parts are expensive. In most cases, you will find you will have to get the engine parts through JD. If you want to buy better quality engine parts that are going to last. I wouldn't trust these cheap Kawasaki knock off engine parts when rebuilding a Kawasaki engine. I have replaced these engines with 90's OHV Briggs engines because of the cost . And the older 90's 14HP and 14.5 HP engines were really durable.
One thing with Tecumseh motors, they will keep coming in for repairs. I hate them motors more than Briggs and that says something. It does seem that they start easier tho, the older ones that is
@wewillsurviveone I love the old HH Tecumseh cast iron block engines. Those are hard to kill engines thanks to Timkin crank journal bearings. I agree with Briggs. The new ones just keep getting worse. I used to like Briggs engines . I still like the old Briggs though.
@shawsgarage7795 the old 5 horse and 3.5 horse ones in horizontal shaft configuration only would be what I think are the hard to kill but honestly I've never had luck with any Tecumseh surviving except random ones. If it was on a go cart or mini bike I knew it was gonna blow up, it was just when. Who made the lawn boy engines, the older two strokes with the offset front wheels? For some reason I thought it was Tecumseh
I know this is an old thread. I've done this conversion and can't get it to rev up, chock has to be on for it to even run. What am I missing :(
The crank pins may not be at the right height. One has to be at .250 the other at .187. I would check that.
I use gasket sealer
I have used copper head gasket spray on some head gaskets.
One of the best small engines ever made. It'll run forever if you give it non ethanol, clean filter and annual plug change. I have a Toro 3650 and it's reliable AF.
I had one with the same hole at 5 hours. Had it rebuilt under warranty 350 hours ago. Waiting for the failure anytime now haha.
Planned failure by design.
first thing you need to do is have a few drinks so you aren't so shaky
😂
Why did u not clean pistin and valves
@duanesmith6890 they actually were pretty clean. There was no crusty carbon build-up, or I would have. And to be honest, I was being lazy 😂
