Mack the Knife and Autumn Leaves Guitar Solo

My attempt at jazz guitar. This is a video of me trying to improvise on Mack the Knife and Autumn Leaves... my own version. I've been learning jazz for the last two years now. In those 2 years there was about 2 months of lessons and the rest is self taught. Before that I'd play the guitar off and on but nothing serious, and only 3 chord rock 'n' roll/blues stuff. But now I'd really like to spen...

    You clearly have the dedication that I don’t. 😂 Nice work. I’ve gotta ask about the guitar and what that floating CC pickup is..... I have jump blues / swing / jazz aspirations and an archtop that I don’t want to cut into.

    • @jkhpods5338

      Hi, thanks. The guitar is an Epiphone Emperor Regent that I found on Craigslist. It was in immaculate condition when I bought it and for $650 figured it was a deal. The guy who sold it to me, I think, is the second owner. I don't remember if he said he put the floating CC on or if he bought it already that way because he was trying to get a Charlie Christian sound. I guess he couldn't get the sound he wanted from it so he put it on Craigslist. The Emperor Regent is a floating pickup guitar anyway, so no cutting was needed. But the pick guard had to to be cut because the CC pickup does not fit the original cut. I'm wondering if that's a Lollar floating CC but I don't know. Actually I haven't a clue. When I asked the guy who sold it, he said he didn't know either. But this recording is acoustic only. The guitar was unplugged and nothing was mic't. It's just the camera's built in mic so just know that this would not be an example of what the CC pickup sounds like.

    can you hook up an external mic? How is low light?

    • @jkhpods5338
      @jkhpods5338 9 років тому

      +Mitchell Ellero Yes, you can hook up an external mic into the 3.5mm jack. Low light is pretty noisy. It's not the best low light camera. The way I figure, for the $199 that it's going for these days, I don't expect noiseless images in low light. This is not a professional camera. It's best for home/vacation videos and UA-cam videos.

      Wel, yes. Im starting a tech channel, and i need a decent starting camera that can do 30 fps at 1080p. Cheap, but with decent lighting it will look ok

    • @anaghashyam9845
      @anaghashyam9845 9 років тому

      +peapods Hi! So, I'm starting an educational-science-tech-music and whatnot channel. I need a descent camera around 200$ -300$. Should I go for the DSLR, Nikon D5200 or Canon VIXIA hf R600? Any opinion will be very helpful guys! My primary purpose is video shooting but I do need some descent still shot option available when I feel like capturing a photo.

    • @jkhpods5338
      @jkhpods5338 9 років тому

      +Anagha Shyam - You'll probably get better overall image quality from the Nikon D5200, no doubt. But Canon Vixia HF R600 gets very good image quality when the lighting is decent. Without being an expert on either camera, to me, the differences are things like zoom range, audio quality, and ease of use. The Nikon D5200, again, probably shoots better images but unless you already have Nikon lenses, you'll probably have to spend more than $200-$300, as you'll also need a lens to go with it. Here's a link to the Nikon D5200 with a cheap 18-55mm kit lens for $500. Remember that 18-55mm zoom range is nothing compared to the 37x range of the Canon. So if long zooming matters to you, you probably want the Canon. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/910170-REG/nikon_1503_d5200_digital_slr_camera.html Additionally, DSLRs are not regarded as being adequate for audio recording, as the built in mics are generally terrible, and it's standard practice for DSLR video shooters to use a separate audio recorder such as a Zoom H5.... which of course means more money. The Canon Vixia HF R600 has a pretty good built in mic... not excellent, and definitely not professional,, but adequate for simple UA-cam videos. As for ease of use, the Canon is a point and shoot, and it doesn't get much easier than that. DSLRs are generally for people who use manual settings more often, and maybe only sometimes use auto features. So if you want to just press "record" and let the camera do the work while you concentrate on your video's content, then get the Canon. But if you want to explore cinematography at a low entry level price point, but still higher than $200-$300, then consider the Nikon DSLR. Hope this helps some.

      External mic is not a problem because I'm buying one anyways.Thank you very much for you opinion peapods! I'll go for the Canon for now...

    Is there a problem with it on auto focus? Like does it make lots of noise while recording its hard to tell cause u are on the beach.

    • @jkhpods5338
      @jkhpods5338 9 років тому

      +Kayla Giangiuli - The auto focus is generally very good, in my opinion. Understand though, I mean that as this is a $249 camera, which is now a $200 camera these days. For that price, it's got great auto focus. BUT, with that said, occasionally the autofocus has to hunt. You';ll see that starting at about 2:26 in this video, the autofocus is blurry and is hunting, and that little clicking sound you hear is indeed the auto focus making noise. It stays blurry until about 2:56, and only gets into sharp focus after I play around with the focal length with the zoom. But once it locks into focus, you can see that it's got very sharp focus. The auto focus doesn't make that clicking noise except for when it's having a hard time focusing on something. Most of the time it's silent. It's not a perfect camera. And for $200 I don't expect it to be. To get super fast, reliable, and silent auto focusing all the time, one will have to spend thousands of dollars on professional lenses like Canon's 'L' Series Pro Lenses, and also the professional camera body to go with it.

    • @SpectralStar
      @SpectralStar 9 років тому

      +peapods Can you turn the Auto focus off and manually adjust for say a face cam scenario? By the way, the shot wouldn't be moving it would be on a tripod pointing at me while I'm sitting and gaming.

    • @jkhpods5338
      @jkhpods5338 9 років тому

      +SpectralStar - I don't think this has a manual focus. At least, there's no obvious one. If there is, it must be hidden deep within the menu somewhere because there's no manual focus ring on the lens. I can't find a manual focus. That said, if you're going to video yourself just sitting in a chair like a lot of people do in UA-cam channels, I don't think the auto focus will be a problem. Most likely, it will lock on and stay there with good focus and you probably won't have any problems. Once it locks into focus, it hasn't gone out of focus.

    When you are filming in AVCHD, do you have to convert to MP4 to edit the video? Or is it more of a hassle to use other than MP4?

    • @jkhpods5338
      @jkhpods5338 9 років тому

      +Teagan Hi, Sorry for late reply. I record in AVCHD and import to Final Cut Pro X, which handles AVCHD well. I could transcode the files to Apple ProRes, but since FCPX also edits AVCHD, it's not necessary. Personally, I never record or transcode to MP4 since it's a low-res codec designed for uploads to the web. In my opinion, it's always best to record in a camera's highest setting (unless it's 4K, then it's debatable), and then export to a smaller file.   I edit in FCPX with AVCHD files. Then when done editing, for web videos, I export as H.264, which is a web friendly .MOV codec, and is an acceptable format for UA-cam uploads. That is what this video is and the other one I made of the Canon HF R600. This will look much better on the web than videos shot in MP4. Hope this helps.

    Should I get this or the Nikon Coolpix L840?

      Stickbrick Gaming Hard to say. But in a nutshell, I'd say that if your emphasis is on still photography, then get the Nikon Coolpix L840. If your emphasis is video, then get the Canon HF R600. After looking at a few short video samples of the Coolpix L840 on UA-cam, it looks like the Coolpix has auto focus problems when zooming.

      I may get the Cannon SX510, I feel it has good video AND photo. It is good.

      Yes. There's a 3.5mm jack for external mic input. The latest version of this camera is the Canon Vixia HF-R800.
