How good or bad are these guys? As in, what was the quality of this match? I don't know snooker. Saw Trump play pool and he was terrible so am now trying to understand how it goes the other way.

@@johntallanger4036 mark gray has had 32 147 breaks and hes been learning playing 9 ball for years and still cant compete anywhere near the highest level …..its a completely different skillset

@@ohsoleohmio yeah i know that much. but it's not like he's awful. the snooker guys would have to remake their strokes. so i'm still wondering what level this is i'm watching.

@@johntallanger4036 some players would consider mark grays stroke or action kinda bad (on the american table)… so yer they do need to remake there techniques to be top level … ofc mark grey is amazing player still although not adapted to american cue yet afaik or prefers snooker / chinese 8ball cue. i think the level we are watching is scratch or not far from it … top amateur level before pro … yapp is obviously an incredible cueist and is adept at both games. this is much easier now as the american tables are built much higher than ever and most are now exactly the same as british 8 ball tables which enables and is better with the more square snooker stance. the tables have also adapted to be more like snooker with harder cushions which squares the angle more and reduces the effect of side massively. to be fair some players like trump or sullivan have so much talent they could easily compete at top level but they would still need to put in 10000 hours serious training first imo some snooker players can adapt and have the right stroke already whereas going from american to snooker this just will not happen even with 10000 hours i dont think any super talent american player will be acheiving a 147 or compete at pro level… unless very very young ofc Jason shaw is amazing at snooker and should have maybe focused on a career with it even if he didnt spend hardly any time on it but he spent all his youth playing 8 ball on a 6 foot or aka 7 foot British table and the mindset to compete at highest level at that game is much more competitive and mentally taxing than american 8 ball or even snooker. very tactical and much more thought required especially before they changed the rules to be more like american game. this enabled him to adapt very well to all cue sports but especially 9 ball which is a completely different animal, luckily he spent alot of time with strickland as roomate. of course appleton and melling are veteran 7 foot british players also … so if any player could be good at transition to 9 ball id expect mark selby to be awesome too. 9 ball though to have the advantage of learning this particular game young in amongst good to pro players preferably in america or philipines maybe even china now is a great advantage you can not underestimate the very unique skillset and mindset this game needs in comparison to 8 ball or straight pool or snooker.

@@ohsoleohmio Thanks. My presumption was this was low level pro type stuff. We're mostly in agreement. Other than that the transition from pool to snooker wouldn't be as hard as people think. The motivation just isn't there for people to have to move to England. If snooker was in America you'd see more guys doing it. Not the absolute top players but the Mark Gray level of pool. Where we probably the most in agreement is that 7 foot 8 ball is a great game.

Well it is a national championship. Yapp is one of the best in the world. I don't believe they have a lot of world top level players. At a national level it is kind of expected to have a lot of B players (even C) participate in the championship.
