Dark Ambient Drone 14
Last year I shut down my Dark Ambient channel „Project Achim van Oyten“ for good. It hat a few mildly successful tracks but never made it above 600 subscribers. It was a pragmatic decision not out of frustration,
Last week Andrei reached out to me looking for this specific track „abandoned“. This was the first track with more than 1.000 views on the channel. Well here it is again and I couldn‘t be happier. There is actually someone out there genuinly interested in my music.
Thank you, Andrei!

Playing around with the Doppler parameter is a lot of fun and gives some nice effects for dark ambient. Also fiddled a bit with feedback and noise and with the Reverb Mix. I put Moon Echo and Pro R2 on a send bus and played a few notes with the Korg MS-20 virtual instrument by Arturia.
Saturday Drone - Dark Ambient Music with a very slow motion video

This track on Bandcamp: martingoldmann.bandcamp.com/track/saturday-drone I guess it makes little sense to make ambient music in the days of AI-generated music. But I love the process of creating. It is meditative and creative. And if only a few people listen to the track, I am happy :)

This time I used my Korg Minilogue XD to record 4 tracks on the Fostex XR5. I messed up a little bit so I had to use some EQing on the bass and the lead track. Also I added a bit of reverb in Logic Pro and did some Noise reduction. (The tape was too noisy even for me ;-) The visuals are made with my iPhone 13Pro and slowed down with Topaz Video AI.

Back to the beginning. Just having plain drone fun with the Furthrrrr Generator, the A-124 WASP Filter, a bit of strymon Magneto and Valhalla Supermassive. The Video is taken this noon while walking the dogs. Just a pan from where I live. However I slowed it doooown with Topaz Video AI.
I just don't care anymore.

This sounds like crap but it was so much fun experimenting with the Lyra-8. For the first time in months I pulled my trusty old Lyra-8 from the shelf. I wanted to know: how lo-fi can I go on a Saturday Morning. But the Lyra-8 alone is not LoFi enough for me. I needed something more. Like my Guitar Amp. In combination the Lyra-8 and my amp have everything, a real LoFi-Ambient artist needs. A del...

I met a lot of Gatekeepers during my career. Those who told me Synths were no real instruments, those who told me PHP was no serious programming language (my colleague and I used it anyway for coding a CMS back in 1999). Those who tell me noise recorded with a field recorder was no real noise (wait what?). In this video I dive into the world of Gatekeeping. Have fun :)

I consider myself fortunate for stumbling upon all you do. It was a recording/creativity video first, but once I found out ALL you do, I was always happy for new tracks and the little online chats we've had. Your Dark Ambient channel got me through many a workday (and writing session)...and whether it's old or new, I'm always excited when I see something you've done pop up in my subscriptions 😀

@@martingoldmannmusic I know many do creative things in hope of fame, but when I look at the friends I have, most are through creative interests. I'd much rather have a guy in Germany say, "Yes, you can use my ambient music for one of your narrated stories," than have to write stories most likely to make money (while never getting to what I really want to do) and not enjoy the process as much! 😉

Took me a moment to comprehend what “loafy” was…Lo-Fi or Low Fidelity recording quality (niedrige Wiedergabetreue in your neighborhood, according to Google translate). Around where I have lived (western Canada and US), everyone says fi as fye, rhyming with eye, usually referring to High-Fi stereo systems in the old days when everything was analog. Just mentioning it as an aside in case anyone else had a moment of derp like me.

Can't wait to do stuff with mine. Not actually plugged it in yet. Just moving all my music gear from the back bedroom to the back room, so everything is all over the place at the moment, as I'm just setting up my studio downstairs. I bought a Soma Enner and a Pulsar 23 at the same time as the Lyra 8 so hopefully will be going in a very experimental direction. I've also ordered an Elta Solar 42F. These synths all speak to me. I'm moving away from very ordered and structured composition to something a lot more organic. I also have the Soma Ether which picks up radio and electromagnetic interference and I've got some interesting recordings from that. It's particularly effective when it's picking up what must be clocking devices. So the central heating controller, my computer, and sequencers on my eurorack, and a battery charger all output quite rhythmical interference patterns.

LOL. Love the video. I've had three full home studios. One version had almost 30k into it. Now, that would make sense if I had massive talent and skills! BUT, NO! I am OKAY, but my joy is in creativity. Not sure how many will admit this, but I sure will! These are COOL Toys! As an adult, we have the ability to buy amazing toys. That's the reality of it. ALL these videos? Content creators? We have no idea who they are. They don't have Platinum records. They are hobbyists! Just like us! We see their toys, and we want one too! Is there anything wrong with GAS? NO. Not if it isn't hurting your family, or yourself via keeping you from spending money on the NEEDS! If you have extra for WANTS? This hobby isn't expensive! Even a $3500 keyboard is no big deal. Most synth hold value, or at least retain enough value to get a good amount of money back. SO, why not enjoy life? I've been back and forth between DAW and DAWless more times than I can count. NOW, we have amazing all-in-one workstations that are as good as DAW, like MPC Force, Key 61, and obviously the greats like, Kronos, Nautilus, Fantom. (I hate yamaha, so I'm not giving them much of a mention). Just have fun! Who cares.

Another question: Can you play ambient without delay and/reverb? It's so easy to drown everything in reverb and then call it ambient. I know your videos aren't meant to be that serious (which I like) - and I like to deal with questions such as this at the moment...

    • @martingoldmannmusic
      @martingoldmannmusic Місяць тому

I am pretty sure you can. Use a piano with sustain and play something like Glass or Reich. Use a combination of some nice synth pads. I think a bit of reverb can't hurt, but it's absolutely possible without it.

Software can be and is fun, but the GAS is real in the software world as well. I speak from experience :D Logically I understand that I try to compensate my lack of skills through it, but understanding it logically doesn't seem to translate to actually grasping it emotionally for some reason. One more VSTi, one more course, then I'll be there. Nope, you're never there buddy. Only if you stop and do some of that damn music, you might reach that point, but not with buying more and more. I guess it's because actually doing the thing is hard, and I try to avoid doing what's hard...
