REGULAR GUY TRAINS A SUPER DOG (MALINOIS)

As a non dog trainer I want to show you all what I do with my Malinois as far as daily training. Showing his drive and our communication with each other is what I wanted to highlight here. I am just a regular guy(not a dog trainer) who was basically gifted a Malinois puppy. I have done as much work as I can to try to raise a good pup. Let me know what you think about Draco's progress so far. Al...
Typical Training Session with my Belgian Malinois

Here’s a glimpse into what a daily training session looks like with my Malinois. I am by no means a dog trainer. This is an excellent demonstration of the Premack principle, where you ask for a behavior before the dog is allowed to do something they like. It is very effective for high drive dogs. I love seeing you learn from screw ups, because training is about understanding the subtle nuances of how your behavior is able to trigger behavior from your dog. See if you can keep him in any position when you throw the ball. Then see if you can stop him verbally after he starts charging towards the ball. This would be very powerful if you ever have to control bolting problems (chasing squirrels or following a ball into the street).

@@martinheller5386 thanks so much! You’re right, it’s all about those small little details that we need to pay attention to. Keeping them busy is a must! Even when getting ready to go for a walk I can’t just start getting ready with him present. He needs to have something to do. So at times like that I literally have to put him in a sit or a down and then he’s fine. It’s the “doing what they want to do” part that we have to try to limit. He’s actually pretty good at remaining in a stay or down position when I throw the ball then release him verbally when ready. I’ll make a video showing that soon. Admittedly he isn’t perfect and we are still working on it. Thanks again for the tips and engagement! I really appreciate it my friend! 🤝

I used to have a jack Russel growing up. My dad would take his head and point him in the direction of something and once he would see it and get the command he would be off like lightning. And we would play with him in the house with a toy and fake throw it one way and while he wasn’t looking we’d hide it. Then hold our hands out when he came back to us and show him we don’t have it. “Where is it? Go find it.” He’d sniff and sniff away with a magic sound u til he would locate his toy somewhere crazy. Was amaaaazing. Ur dog could totally do that in a huge field if u start him off at home. He’d def get good enough. Was so much fun watching ur training session. Also maybe u want to use those trees to help u put a rope toy higher so he can really work on that jump? I’m not sure if it’s as much fun with a bigger dog but it was really fun with my jack Russel.

I really appreciate your humble approach, sharing your knowledge, and staying open to learning from others - that’s such a great mindset to have. I started my own channel back in April, sharing videos of my pets and funny moments. My work involves being around K9 units, so I’ve had the chance to see all kinds of dogs, including some that don’t quite make the cut for advanced training. There’s one Belgian (mid-energy) dog in particular I’ve got my eye on, and I’m hoping to adopt him when he’s off their list. With a bit of luck, I’ll soon have a house and land where I can relax and train him. I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ll be able to accomplish with him. I wouldnt say not to reward a dog if he is displaying behavior that you want. You definietly want to reward in early stages, once he knows the the command and is able to do it in the most distracting areas then you can start to reward only when you ask him. Other than that best of luck! I also have a working dog (jack russell) which a small version of malionis 😂

And 2-10 stops before he was alowed to get it...Sometimes I would walk him in closer and closer cirkels around the ball... Mals have exceptionel focus and drive.
