    Why did Einstein use a flat surface to show how gravity works? so being flat means 2d, then space is 2d?

    • @SherpaOnlineTutors
      @SherpaOnlineTutors 6 місяців тому

      Spacetime is 4D (3 dimensions of space plus 1 dimension of time). Since it is hard to draw a 4D figure to show how gravity affects it, for visualisation purposes things are simplified down usually to 2 dimensions.

    Wow that seems like the long & difficult way around. Ppl used to say I was a human calculator. I try to simplify things so instantly I say what is the difference between 3.33 & the round number 4.00. Well. 67. Then I do the much simpler equation 5.22-4=1.22 then i add 1.22+.67=1.89 but that all happens in a fraction of a second.

    You could also get 2 dimensions by extruding a Hilbert’s curve, one dimension is the slice and the second it’s the position on the line.

    I picked up a book called Eon just because of a cool looking cover and it touches on this stuff in a wonderful way. I wonder if it's popular among physics or mathematical scientists. It's written by Greg Bear.
