I guess u did one mistake. some air may gone into system. u shouldnt tighten the dryer filter fittings fully. tighten the fittings little bit. then open the valves before and after dryer filter. when enough air blow the out of fittings u just tighten the fittings fully. in this case system will work without any problem.

Please explain what was causing the fault, Why 43x-11 was not energizing or was it the timer?

That must take a while, I'd personally be after a giant suction pipe for that job
