BIG DOG BRAWL No Time Racing at "Draggin' for Toys" Charity Race
Brainerd Motorsports Park hosts an annual charity race called Draggin' for Toys. For many years, this event has drawn a great crowd of FAST street cars, and 2024 was no different. The inclusion of the Big Dog Brawl series made for a great showing, with lots of great turbocharged, supercharged and nitrous fed combinations. I was there for a short time, so I didn't get to shoot all the action, but wanted to put together some clips.

GRUMPY JENKINS '66 Nova Stock Eliminator Drag Car
Переглядів 15 тис.9 місяців тому
Tribute car or real deal? That was the question I asked myself when I spotted this '66 Chevy II Nova at the 2024 Corvette Expo featuring Chevys in the Smokies. The car has the right look, but a few key details prove that it is not the original Grumpy's Toy Nova drag car from 1966. The L79 engine (327ci/350hp) was the most potent small block from the era, and it powered Grumpy Jenkins' Nova.

Robert Frazier has raced in nearly every class in the Southeast Gassers Association and his newest creation is a Plymouth Barracuda that is powered by an AMC inline six cylinder. This car runs in a special class called H/Gas, which is designated for 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder and Flathead V8 engines. This car runs low 7’s in the eighth mile and sounds awesome.

Gene Winfield is one of the most famous custom car builders in the world, and the STRIP STAR is one of his wildest creations. It's a full custom body on an old Ford chassis with a 427ci Ford FE engine with dual quads. It has incredible paint, which has been preserved for many years. Other custom details include power operated hatch, hood and other body panels, as well as one-off wheels with Goo...
Early Ford CIRCLE TRACK Racer - Roadside Finds

With Flathead V8 horsepower and true Ford frame and suspension, this Model A coupe is a piece of racing history and it's parked at the Dawsonville Pool Room in Dawsonville, Georgia. The car is center steer, and has some trick pieces on it. It has obviously raced sometime recently, but you can tell it's been sitting outside the Pool Room for a number of years. It has wide 5 hubs, dual right fron...
OLDS 442 Dirt Track Car - RUST in PEACE Ep. 5
Переглядів 342Рік тому
I'm not sure if this is really a 442 or if it just has the emblems, but either way, a pretty unusual Oldsmobile dirt track car. It's a mid '60s car, so it was likely raced in the 1970's. Hacked out fenders, a huge roll cage and hand painted numbers are such cool reminders of what dirt track racing is all about. This car has been sitting for YEARS at Old Car City in White, Georgia. It's surround...
Wrecked BUBBLETOP in the Woods - RUST in PEACE Ep. 4

It's not very often you see a 1961 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe (aka Bubbletop) sitting in the woods, but Old Car City USA has this one, which is demolished, but still VERY complete. It's a small block car, but has some chrome reverse steel wheels on it, so someone had a little hot rod back in the day. Also in this clip...1964 Chevrolet Impala convertible and a Buick LeSabre two door hardtop. R...
1965 Impala Super Sport - RUST in PEACE Ep. 3

Here's one for the Chevy fans, a complete 1965 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport, tucked along the fence line at Old Car City USA in White, Georgia. This car has Super Sport badging, along with 396 emblems on the fenders...we're not allowed to open hoods, so we'll just have to hope that the old big block is still resting under the hood. Still only scratching the surface at Old Car City USA, where mo...
Butchered 1951 Henry J (Kaiser) - RUST in PEACE Ep. 2
Переглядів 422Рік тому
Henry J's are one of my favorite cars ever, so it shocked me to see one as soon as I walked in the gate at Old Car City USA in White, Georgia. This one is badly rusted, and has been cut-up beyond repair. A close inspection reveals that it's the most desirable year model, the early 1951, which did not come with a trunk lid or a glove box. These very cheaply made cars were manufactured by Kaiser ...
CRUSTY Dirt Track Car Left for Dead - RUST in PEACE Ep. 1

My adventures at OLD CAR CITY USA started in the front lot, before I even made it into the woods. I love old race cars, so this 1940 Ford dirt track car really got my attention. Let's take a good close look at it, as an introduction to a series of videos from the world's largest car "museum", which is defunct junkyard in White, Georgia, just north of Atlanta. Old Ford coupes like this were EXTR...
BIG BLOCK C3 Corvette with One VERY Unusual Detail

I'm a Corvette nerd, so when I saw a set of KELSEY HAYES Knock-Off Wheels on a 1971, I was intrigued. Further investigation revealed the original Purchase Order and Dealer Copy from Mission Chevrolet in San Gabriel, California. On the Purchase Order, all of the car's options were hand-written. LS5 454 big block with 365hp, four seasons air conditioning, AM/FM Stereo, the list goes on and on. Th...

What else would you expect from a Holden.😅
If you can't ID a SBC, Leave engines to other folks...
Yes sir that man can drive hell.yeah
Did you say you used Easy Off oven cleaner to get the coating off? Did you have to scotch brite it at the same time or steel wool?
i am restoring a 1965 442, i have a lot of stainless to polish. where do i get the black, red and brown compound in the blocks like that? i am used to buffing and polishing paint, i have the patience, and sand papers i need, just need to buy the machine and pads. thanks for the video
I got mine from Summit Racing. www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-905026
@@byrdsgarage thanks
Because it does not have screw in studs from factory it will have 1.94 and 1.5 valves
Where would I be able to find them tools that you have specially that hammer to get get in the crease
I got mine in a kit from Daggar Tools. It has lots of great hammers, dollies and other special tools that come in handy for these projects. Couple hundred bucks, but I've gotten my money's worth out of them. www.daggertools.com/m5/TR-KIT%20II--dagger-tools-deluxe-auto-body-trim-repair-kit-for-damaged-auto-body-trim-restoration.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqVYR33eP37EBMiqNppHkVoBUVwVvEkWEovQrRoLUVeXQOXHeTF
After watching, I positively conclude I have HiPo 289 heads😊. Kidding, great info. I didn’t know that GM heads back in the day came with 2.02/1.60 valves. I always thought 1.94/1.50 were the biggest.
Wasn’t it 5 3/4
That engine helped to power the moon landing.....😂
I hardly ever see camel hump heads with accessory bolt holes. Good find
I love my 307 with a 3 speed in the floor . it's in my granddads 1968 Chevy C10 . Originally from factory it was in a 1968 gmc truck essentially the same truck with the 3 speed in the floor FACTORY
A 307 doesn’t use a 327 crank. It shares the 3.25” stroke of the 327, however the 327 used a steel crank. The 307 cranks were cast. You can obviously use a cast 307 crank in a large journal 4” bore block to make a 327, but it’s still a cast crank at the end of the day.
Couple of things here. Sisal wheels are able to pull out 320 grit sanding marks. They are very aggressive. So when you sand all the way to 3000, and then hit it with a sisal and emery compound, you're just introducing 320 equivelant marks back into the piece. Most professional metal polishers stop sanding at about 600 grit and start with a medium cut buff/compound. Color/polish after that. Second, don't mix compounds on the same wheel. You're running your medium cut right over the top of your aggressive emery on that sisal wheel. You're fighting yourself on introducing aggressive scratches back into the piece. Sure it turns out shiny when you've gone through it all, but it could be 100% better.
the one car was wrecked -stolen -something ?
See what you did now I got 3 Chevy 350 motors I’m going look at the casting numbers and the humps
If you don't check the valve got it might sound like a Singer sewing machine but have power from hell
They probably have 194
I
I checked the valve guides on them heads
thanks for skipping to the alternator and voltage regulator. i was about to dig through all my wiring harnesses and go crazy pulling my hair out after pulling all the fuses. I am wondering why ohming the positive clamp removed from the battery to ground isn't part of the test, but, whatever. I do the same drop test with a pen light on the positive side, clamp off, connect to positive terminal, and it lights if there's a short to ground somewhere, which I have...
If the factory bolt pattern is 5x114.3 is it safe that the aftermarket pattern is 5x114 ?
I'm new to this , sorta but ha e you used synthetic in that classic red beauty. If not have you thought of mixing it with a quart of 10w-30 or 10w40 even a quart of Mobil 1 high mileage 10w-30 or so that has silico e to help ✋️ leeks haha. Heck even a quart of sae 30 gtx. Because my uncle told me 20w50 actually made his car slower.
Thanks for the video, I'm trying to learn how to polish my trim, I just bought a polishing kit from Eastwood. It also has a DVD with it on "how to" and it's looks to be about 10 or 20 years old. One question if I may. Most of my trim, I have '71 Monte Carlo doesn't have deep scratches or dents, but it has the ashy look on it as if it may be hard water spots is the best I can describe it. This stuff will not come out. I've tried the "name brand chrome polishes", but I still end up with" the stained water spot" look. What do I do, no dents and no deep scrapes. Where do I start?
Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. First it's important to know whether the trim pieces are stainless steel or aluminum. Many of the aluminum trim pieces have an anodized coating on them, which results in the spotted finish you're describing. No amount of polishing fixes it. If it turns out to be aluminum with the anodized coating, you will need to strip the coating so that you can lightly sand and polish the aluminum. I have another video about polishing aluminum trim. You can take a look here and see if it matches your symptoms. ua-cam.com/video/JpVQxRhO18A/v-deo.html
They actually dropped it because it could not make enough HP to be economically and pass emissions. 1974 the smallest V8 available was the 350 at a whopping 145hp. It basically got replaced with the 305 when they could figure out the whole emissions thing in 76.
Well you could drop the valve onto the piston lower it down look at it then take head off to fix it 😂
But, I NEED 2.02/1.60 valves in those double humpers
Hey thanks
love any roller rumpety rump idle
Don't forget the exhaust ports. The middle ports on a small block are very close to each other.
I tried this, and it fried the 250a fuse in the multimeter
186 not 189
Seen a guy put a good set of heads and a nasty cam in one. Loudest slowest engine ever! Poor fella was trying though.
Nothing wrong with fake..I would put it back together and drive it.
It’s in my 70 c10
I love the custom work to the front including the hood and square head lights
Sombody turn it into a drag car 🥺
Poor elco
i'm building my first 307 with world product heads and solid roller cam on e85 should be intresting 😊
I have 1 it was a good stuff
Guenee mills mall in gurenee illinois. If you know you know. For those who dont know the mall is a "snake" style mall. Like its one multi mile corridor that never circles back on itseself. At the far end( one end of the mall had alot of stores. And it petered out at the end. But at the end there was a full 1950s style food court. With each booth being clad in fiberglass and chrome to look like 50s cars. Neon everyewhere. It was retro futurism like not a steak and shake very very jetsons feeling. It got removed a few years ago due to heavy wear and lack of nostalgia in the timeperiod. But its a core memory of my childhood. And im sure millions of other kids. wed go shop for school clothes and end at aunti anns pretzels. And sit in that food court. Fresh clothes. Amd shoes. A beanie baby. A bag of pick and mix candy. It was what every vaporwave song and album art represent. And im kinda glad its gone. Not to see it so broken like a never meet your heros kinda thing.
They run good with cam ,heads ,intake and exhaust update !!!!!!
A 307 can be bored to a 327 no problem
I tried this and I got like 0.03 but it keeps dying?!?!
How do go about decifurin deciphering the number on the casting
I ran a 397 years ago in a " cubic inch limited class".. that had no cylinder head rule because most people don't think of 307 = big power as everyone thinks they're supposed to run a monster valve I had acquired a set of four valve dual cam cylinder heads anime 12.221 compression and a thick crown.. play quickly rewrote the rules for The following season the engine made 570 with camshafts and heads that were made in 1977 with a marine mechanicall fuel injection, everyone screams that you must have bigger cylinders look look how far Ford has come with small cylinders and about the same stroke.. small cylinders LOVE big boost aw well
These were good little motors. Take all the EGR and smog stuff off and put a properly sized carb on them and they can make decent power and they sound really nice, with the right exhaust setup of course. You'd be surpised at how much power you can make with a factory motor if you just let the engine breathe correctly.
Fantastic tip 👍
I had a fairly stock L79 in a '72 Vega back in '79. It was a great motor especially in the Vega platform.
Wish I knew this before I went to the junkyard and found out 😅
