The Best Way to Season a Smithey
Переглядів 1,8 тис.6 місяців тому
The best way to season your Smithey is to cook with it. Don’t over think it. When you have a Smithey, you don’t have to stress over seasoning. The skillets arrive pre-seasoned, and the polished interiors of their skillets make for a smooth cook surface that is naturally non-stick, unlike rougher cast iron that relies on seasoning to fill in the pits on the cook surface. The first few times you ...
Yes, You Can Use Soap on Cast Iron

Soap is okay in a Smithey, thanks to the smooth polished interior. Because you are not fighting to fill seasoning into every nook and cranny like you have to with some other cast iron brands, you don’t need to worry so much about a dab of dish soap undoing your hard work. 🎥: @shaunsonexplains

    Nice Wok but can we not put rivits. I just ended buying a single cut hammer forge japanes carbon steel Wok. After buying 3 cast iron skilit and a dutch oven from Smithey. The wok would be the 4th peace if the rivits are not there.

    Order placed-thanks for supporting this. I might recommend also exploring a South Carolina commemorative-wildlife, seafood, culture, grains, turtles, alligators, even peaches or beaches…just celebrating something that makes SC so special! PS: Loggerhead turtles would be especially nice, and there is no shortage of deserving organizations (including the SC Aquarium) that would be appreciative of supporting sea island turtles.

    Its a beautiful skillet for sure. Have two kockums jernverk carbon pans here the 28 and 24 cm the fabric seasoning is rough but smoothes out quick they are 3mm quick and work horses. The one drawback is that they have powder laquered handles so oven safe only up to 200 celsius. I also have three de buyer mineral b pro pans on the way the 24 and 28 and 32. Also have demeyere proline stainless pan and scanpan fusion 5 and a demeyere black 5 wok. So a good collection.

    I have a few smithy pans and like grape seed oil to season all my cast iron even my old griswold. I use grape seed oil to cook with as a replacement for butter. Love the pans

    The large curve in the handle is something you don't see on any other wok. I'd like to see a sustained video of someone using the shaking technique while stir frying and I'd like to see how they compare the Smithy wok to a wok with a more traditional handle.

    Hey, guys. I have almost your full collection of pans and love them, but... How do you get the seasoning to be that beautiful bronze color? Mine are definitely seasoned well, they just have a much darker look to them. Should this bug me? Thanks, OCD customer...

    • @Iniamelendez

      As you use them, it will turn darker and darker until they are completely black. It not going to stay in that shinny copper color. Smithey explained that in there web site.

    I found mine difficult to season. Best thing I did was fry in it with some peanut oil and that finally turned the corner and built up seasoning.

    I don’t know who thought the best way was the oven. Once I learned the stovetop method it’s the only way I have done it. Especially there’s a lot of cast iron and carbon steel that has handles that are not oven safe. It’s so fast and easy. My favorite way is weather permitting is the grill really avoids the smoke in the house

    • @ThatDamnPandaKai
      @ThatDamnPandaKai 4 місяці тому

      The oven method is the best way to get the initial coat that goes ALL OVER the pan. But yeah, subsequent coats are far easier and quicker done on the stove top.
