i am looking into starting with kllm soon is there anyway i could ask for you to be my trainer?
I'd rather lease because I don't want to own a semi
May God bless you with peace
Thanks for the video- FYI diet cola killed my mom. Aspartame is a highly addictive, cancer-causing neurotoxin. When served to rats they all died. Just trying to help- even though I presented my mom with the research white papers, she didn't listen (though she was a Ph.D. of Edu.) and eventually died a long, slow death. Best wishes, *A.
Yea your not making any money
Never buy a truck from the company that you work for.. it costs them 100k or less because they buy in bulk and get a discount. but then at the end of the lease you're going to pay 150k for it ! Just to feel like a big shot. Save your money folks and pay cash for a truck after a few years! Then you have the freedom to work for any company or even you're self with you're own authority! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

When does KLLM/FFE school open up again in Texas ?
I heard in early part of 2025, but I am trying to find out what "early" is. I will keep you posted.
@@stevesliffwow are they seriously still closed🥲🥲this company sounds amazing but im a bit glad i didn't wait for them because it looks loke i still would have been waiting.. as soon as i tried to apply last april is when they closed the school in Lancaster. told me they would open around august-september of 2024.. i was thinking about waiting but ended up going somewhere else. sheesh i wonder whats taking longer
What about hotel while training?
All paid by the school. Win, win!!
Does KLLM allow you to take the truck home? During your off days, can you use the truck to go home, and back to work?
Yes. If you live outside of the 100 or 150 mile radius of a terminal, you can take the truck home. You will need to get approval for a place to park if it's not at your. residence. Most likely on KLLM side, you will be bobtail. But sometimes you may take an empty home too.
@stevesliff Appreciate it, and happy new year! I live around 84 miles from the closest terminal. Well call a recruiter and see if I qualify.
Does KLLM force sleep study stuff?
I actually went to a doctor who gave me a 60 med stating I had to do a sleep study. Never had any issues. Told safety I wanted a second opinion and they agreed. Went to another doctor and passed with flying colors. Safety did not say that I had to do one because of the one doctor. Hope that helps.
Too many sleep studies result in CPAP machines therefore I refuse to participate and have that permanent stain on my medical record. Some life insurance companies won't payout if you ever been diagnosed with sleep apnea and the CPAP machine itself sends data of usage to a cloud which truck insurance companies use to determine collision payouts. It's a whole racket nowadays.
@@aaronosborne5645 My first thought was that office was getting some kind of kick back to say people needed the study. I am not thin, but pretty active and have no issues. I just think if you are on blood pressure meds and above a certain weight they are like "Bam, lets make more money with this one" LOL
@aaronosborne5645 I like CPAP, definitely feel more rested. I buy a used model - don't pay much . Having a beard affects the sealing of the mask. Being skinny usually eliminates a need for CPAP

I chose trucking because, years ago, I was a DC manager responsible for a fleet of tractors.(Local). I had a guy who always laid out and put us behind on deliveries. I asked one of our senior drivers to teach me how to drive and I got my CDL. I got a part time gig doing switchouts and liked it! After a career in cubicle land, I had just gotten laid off. Frustrated, I asked myself, What is a past job I had that I loved? Trucking came to mind. At 58, I got my CDL again and have been driving since. I love it ! Best decision I ever made!!!!
What a great story to share to the other older folks thinking about making the change. There is life and freedom out here!
Hey Steve I’m with KLLM on Midwest regional. Contemplating going independent contractor and lease purchasing a truck. Personally I like the adventure but also the non 9-5 I’ve been self employed my entire life. Would love to chat sometime!
Hit me up at stevesliff@gmail.com. Would love to chat. Merry Christmas!
KLLM IS A GARBAGE COMPANY WITH THE WORST DISPATCHERS THE PEOPLE IN JACKSON MS ARE DUMB AND BURNS HARBOR DISPATCHER DANIEL AND KIM ARE HORRIBLE
Have you gotten your one year week pay? Im confused on how that works
Not understanding the one year week pay. Can you explain further? Thanks.
I want do trucking for the adventure and challenges and pride of driving semi truck
Good choices. We need more folks to take pride in being a driver. A lot of folks treat it as just a job. Take pride in my work, how clean the truck is etc... I respect the job.
Hi, Steve! Wow, you were in Des Moines, and I work in Davenport, I'm about 15 minutes away from the world famous I-80 Truck Stop. Since I do love to travel, that's one of my top reasons for wanting to get back in the business again. And yeah, I would want to work hard and save up as much as I could, my ultimate goal is to become a retired man of leisure. Even though I wasn't with the best company last time, at least they gave me the opportunity to drive, and I truly enjoyed it. Anyway, it's great to see you again, I'm glad to see that KLLM is treating you right. As always, be safe, and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks my friend. Good to know that. I pass by it. If I know I will be going that way, maybe squeeze in a lunch. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks you have good info on all videos I'm 52 trying to do the same
Sorry for the delay. Do it! Thanks for stopping by.
I’m on the Kraft account in union city ga as a company driver, I’m thinking of going the lease op route here soon.
Nice! Maybe you can write a couple of sentences on how things work over there. Pay etc.... Lease can work nicely on a dedicated account. Thanks for watching and the support.
@@stevesliff .55 a mile with 0-1 year experience, one cent raise per year of experience capped at .60. Mostly drop and hook, I average about 1,900 miles weekly, if you live close to ATL, you’ll be home every other night. If you don’t get 1,900 miles a week, they’ll work with you pay wise, almost like the guaranteed pay. Super easy work and laid back dispatch.
Hi Steve! Thanks for the videos. They're very informative. I have a question pertaining to KLLM. I understand that they're mostly a reefer company. I saw on a post yesterday that most KLLM loads are delivered between 2AM and 4AM. Is this correct or something just from the rumor mill?
Thank you for the nice comment. There will be some deliveries to Distribution Centers that are overnight. However, I only did a handful that were between 12am and 4am. Hope that helps.
@stevesliff Yes it does. Thanks so much!
Does kllm allow a passenger to ride along?
Are they still offering free CDL training in texas ? Or no more fee CDL training ?
Do you get good miles coming from tx with eco shield
I do. What is nice is I am always going to Laredo from Michigan or Ohio, which means I have to head back to the midwest from Laredo or the Houston area. I am averaging 2900 to 3100 for the most part. Higher some weeks and of course lower on some.
How long do they what you to drive before you can get on the account
@ I have heard of folks getting on at different times. I would contact a recruiter for the best info. I have heard 60 to 90 days and I have heard folks jumping right in.
@ ok hopefully it won’t be hard I will be returning to Kllm if all goes well
I've watched a lot of your videos and understand your motivation to have your own business as a lease operator and why you went with KLLM. I was a driver for over 20 years until 2020, company and owner/operator, OTR and local, so I know what trucking is all about. I'm glad to hear you give very sound advice to the drivers out there who are thinking the "grass is always greener" if they jump into a lease thinking they are going to get rich. Like Steve says take your time and do your research, talk to other O/O's out there (just take their comments with a grain of salt) and do your homework on what it takes to run a business. Best advice I ever received about being an O/O is always remember it's YOUR truck, if anything goes wrong with it YOU have to pay to fix it, and it ain't cheap!
Doesn't seem to me like a very good deal. If you're paid $1.60 a mile on a load when KLLM gets $4.00 revenue you're breaking your back for them, not for yourself. What happens at the end of your lease? Do you walk away or have a balloon payment on the truck? Is it a new truck?
When I drove back in the 90's I made really good money at that time. Enough in one week to pay my bills for the entire month. I was a regional driver, home every weekend, with Big G Express out of Shelbyville TN. I had to "retire" when I was 35 after I had driven for 13 years. I've been seriously thinking about getting back into it because of the money I see driver's making. I "retired" due to a neurological condition which, in the end, wouldn't have affected my trucking life. I don't think KLLM has any terminals near Crossville TN, but I do see that you make deliveries right down the road, in Sparta, for Ecoshield. I'm seeing those who can't speak English getting CDL's so I suppose it isn't that difficult. In a lot of ways I suspect a lot of it is easier then it was then with smart phones that we have now, etc.
Always worth checking out. I live in Corpus and closest terminal was Dallas and they hired me . Call a recruiter and just check it out.
Kind o f where you are. Out of the seat 20 years and now being treated as if I never drove a truck. The CDL test is easier than when we did it. And people just out of school who have never been under a load, driven in weather, been to a shipper, receiver, farmers field, used a paper log or map or double clutched a transmission are perceived to be better drivers. It's unreal.
@@movinondownthetrail I hear you. It’s been 19 years, for me. I’ve been pretty seriously thinking about it recently. I have been with the same company for the past 13 years as an IT technician, and am barely scraping by, in what I believe to be a dead end job. I’m anticipating knee replacements in the next few months, after recently losing 100 pounds and have never felt better. I’m 52, so I don’t think it’s too late to make, yet, another change.
@@Matts_Presentations Keep on pushing and do it!!!!
the 5 cent starting pay is what broke the deal for me. Been on the Fence since they did that. You lucked out to get in right before they did that cut. Still enjoy the vids and they keep me considering it. Do you know what their accident policy is? will they hire with 1 preventable in personal vehicle? unfortunately had my first accident in 15 years a few weeks ago.. super upset about it because I was like well there goes the option to drive CDL for a few years. but maybe I'm jumping the gun and being too negative. 1 accident with no injuries. no moving violations or anything else. doesnt sound too bad I guess but I know its likely to be enough get me DQ'd..... honestly too scared to ask. Amyways Happy Thanks giving man. Keep it up.
Yeah, I was disappointed they went backwards with the pay. Hope they bring it back. It was one of the factors I came to KLLM. Yes you should be fine with 1 accident. Thanks for the feedback and please keep coming back.
I'll keep tunning in. Enjoy watching your adventure into trucking and watching you evolve and grow and learn. Think you'll stay with KLLM/FFE etc for a good while or are you thinking about venturing into new territory? seems like they did you well for the first year. I drove for Werner for 2 years before going to K&B refrigerated transport out of Iowa. It was a very different feel. They got me miles galore... too many. I banked there. They felt more like a mom and pop company with a single terminal. really good company but they run your butt off and expect you to keep running. They basicly ran me in a repeating triangle from Chicago, to northern california/oregon, down to south Texas and then back up to chicago area and then repeat. The Tyson in Amarillo Texas was a very frequent pick up. But my favorite spot was in corpus christi. They Do mainly Tyson meats and oddball produce backhauls to get you back to the next nearest tyson. Not gonna lie I had a great time there until I got tired and Id probably go back in heartbeat if I was still current.
@@steveedelen3251 Thanks for sharing and thank you for the support.
Do you qualify for any benefits like health insurance, retirement, or employee stock? Ive been in trucking for a few years but decided to go local after driving flatbed OTR, I make a little more now but in trucking theres always a trade off. I make more but I work nights and I touch the freight…….all the freight lol 😂
We have good health insurance through my wife's job. I have good retirement outside of employment. Thanks for stopping by.
@ thats awesome. If you are an owner op leased on though are you eligible or required to find that on your own?
Happy Thanksgiving
Steve, does KLLM have a feul agreement with Love's, Pilot or TA? I think Prime Inc does for the lease drivers.
Pilot, TA, Petro only no loves
Company drivers have to fuel at planned fuel stops and at the places mentioned by Troy. As a lease driver I can fuel anywhere that takes our card. NO LOVES lol. Sometimes other fuel stations such as speedway have lower prices then the contract price at a Pilot. Fuel is the only area I can make or lose money for the week.
Congrats Steve!
Thank you!
Been watching your stuff for a long time and I am now officially a KLLM driver!!!! Keep up the content brother and hopefully we get to see each other on the road. I am def weighing the option of doing a lease purchase for myself.
Ive made a mando theme song, 🎶Oh mando, well you came and you cleaned up my glando, now the only thing that stinks is my hando.🎶
Interesting. You know, if I made your money I'd throw my money away! KLLM still sounds like the way to go. I'm really glad to see that you're doing well with them. From a personal standpoint, if I had stayed with CR England I don't think that I would've fared as well. Well, take care, be safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving as well.
What were the other accounts you said were difficult to get into?
What kind of drug test does kllm do?
They will do a Hair test on the first day and a urine test the third day.
@stevesliff thanks bud
What does the upgrade consist of? Like more training.
You will take a few tests (really easy). Then you will back into a spot and drive around for about 15 mins. That's it. Trust what you learned and you will be fine.
I get paid on percentage. I would never run by the mile. 😊
As always, great video, very informative. I like that KLLM has a lot of career options to offer. I could almost see myself as a trainer, I've done that in the past at other jobs. I do admit I wouldn't mind being an instructor at the school, but who knows? Anyway, congratulations on your 1 year mark, keep on keeping on, and be safe!
Thank you so much for the nice comment.
@stevesliff you're welcome, and have a nice Thanksgiving!
My miles at KLLM lately have been trash as otr. Literally finishing this week with 800 miles. Sat for almost 4 days because they say freight is slow. They better not open their school back up when they can’t keep current drivers moving.
Yeah, Its been low for everyone for a couple of week.
i am navy vet and 45 and thinking againnfor like the 4th timw about trucking i work for delivery service but no benefits drive 16 ft box truck drive 2000 mikes week salary no benefits

I wish Samuel L. Jackson was running for president, they say that cat is a bad mother....you know who I'm talking about! I would've ran for office, but I've been really busy this year fighting the forces of evil at the rehab center. Oh well, maybe at the next one 4 years from now. Do you think the public could handle a regular guy in office who has a few good ideas?
Just started watching your videos and they've been so helpful. When you upgrade and get your truck to go solo do you get a day to get your belongings or is it just go from there? Also do you get a choice in what type of area you want to cover ex: otr, regional, dedicated or is it "you get what cha get"? Thank you so much!
Thank you for the watch and enjoying the videos. Most folks upgrade and go home for a week. Since most students are out for 5-6 weeks, they allow you to take some home time. If you decide you are ready for a truck, they may have one ready or you may have to wait for sometimes a week or so. It has been getting better. My suggestion is upgrade, call the fleet manager and ask when a truck will be ready. Then you can decide if you want or need to go home. Good luck and keep in touch.
@stevesliff thank you so much.
