University of Maryland Extension (UME) is a statewide, non-formal education system within the college of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. We provide research-based education and expertise in the areas of 4-H and Youth Development, Agriculture, Environment, Natural Resources, Home Gardening, Food and Nutrition, Health and Wellness and Money Management. This UA-cam Channel features educational videos created and posted by UME educators in Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties who comprise the Western Cluster of the UME system.

Brunch and Learn: Preserving DCL with Riparian Buffer
Join Carolyn Sheaffer with Deep Creek Watershed Foundation for an introduction to the conservation landscaping program 10 in 10, which stands for the DNR’s goal of having 10% of the lakeshore buffer strip planted with native plants and trees in the next 10 years. This program aims to prevent further erosion of the lakeshore by stabilizing soils through native plant roots, which is an economical and natural way to preserve and create a living shoreline. Learn how to get involved with this important project and support it during this webinar with guest speakers Eric Null- DCL Lake Manager with DNR, Julia Vache, DNR Natural Resource Planner II, Robert “Bob” Sutton, DCL POA President.

The Water Budget Model has been a multi-year project led by the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation and our partners that is nearing completion. This was an excellent presentation. I plan to do this in Zine 7B , Central NC.
I’ve had people asking lots of questions after I successfully winter sowed last year and posted pictures on my Facebook page. Now I can send them this and they can watch and learn. Thank you! And great job! P.S. I decided that I will put my plant label that’s inside the jug upside down in the dirt from now on. I accidentally did that on a couple of my jugs last year and I had zero fading because the soil blocked the sun. They rinsed tight off and I was good to go. I did 147 jugs and had a 94% success rate. This method works!
