Modified Fords, Navarra, Spain - 6th Oct 2024 - Race 3 - Capri 32V Cobra V8
Had to qualify with a misfire, same in Race 1 & 2 from the start so came in. Thought it was cured for Race 3 but came back after 3 laps, got the fastest lap even thought the 3 laps were a bit messy as they were the only ones done on 8 cylinders.so hadn't learnt the track with full power.

After splitting the 3 RSR Escort's in qualifying, I was looking forward to a good close race with them, but things got very close very quickly. Oh well a damaged the wheel and tyre, and back of the grid for race 2, could of been a lot worse !

Qualified 11th, had to bed in some pads first then the red flag came out on my first properly quick lap ending the session early. A bit greedy at the start into the first corner, but had a good race to finish 3rd. ...and if you believe the commentator on the BRSCC live feed it has a Chevy V8, is the quickest on the straight, the most powerful and doesn't go round corners...hmm Excellent image b...

Got a bad start after it snapped sideways when the lights went out, on the 2nd lap the front left control arm broke at the end of the GP Straight, the catch sand did it's job and it stopped about 6ft short of the barriers !

Happy to qualify 8th in a quality 41 car grid, race was red flagged on 2nd lap and restarted, finished 5th overall, 2nd in Historic Class.

After a DNF in the first race I started from the back of the grid, came through to finish 2nd in the 'Mick Hill memorial Race', happy with that !

First time out in the Special Saloons, 4th on the grid, dropped to last after locking a rear on the first lap. Got up to 3rd but ran out of fuel due to a leak on the tank breather pipe !

Qualified 9th after flat spotting the front left on my first quick lap giving me a bad vibration. Came 2nd in damp slippery conditions, the race finishing behind the safety car. Trying different locations for the camera mic. but the sound is still shite ! Great picture by 'Shannon Warwick'

The first Race 1 which was red flagged within seconds of the start due to a big crash. Luckily both drivers were ok and cars not badly damaged, the Recticel barriers did a great job.

Qualified 6th, finished 5th on a very slippery track, with the low sun visibility was non existent down the straight.

Good to be back at Combe after 29 years, had a good race with Jas Sapra in the E36 M3 trying to take 2nd, until I pushed just a bit too hard through 'The Esses' and had a spin, finished 6th.

Started in pole position, led until the last lap, I knew 20min was about the limit on fuel (races normally 15m). Crossed the line with 3 seconds left on the clock, which meant another lap and a final race time of 21m40s. Started missing on the last few corners and Piers Grange passed me to win by 0.14s ! What engine is in this?
It's the Ford Modular 32V V8, fitted to Mustang SVT Cobra's around 1997-2003
Scythed his way through the pack👌🏼

@@stephenpage-murray7226 It was originally a new engine destined for an MG-SVR rated at 385bhp, it has since been rebuilt by myself with better cams, heads, 8x Throttle Bodies etc.
Shame about that Simon after qualifying so well...should of been a completely different Sunday for you mate.

That is indeed a ferocious, wonderful beast. The control arm breaking at least saved you from the indignity of falling further backward though.
Thanks, yeah made worse by starting with rear tyre pressures a bit lower than 1st race, so take longer to work, then would have made some places back hopefully 🙂
Shows engineering works when firstly you can make a Capri that fast,and secondly it goes round a corner nose first instead of arse first…

Was a bit twitchy, let more air out the rears as psi was getting a bit high in 1st race, would have come good by the 3rd lap if I'd got that far 🤣
