Songs during lockdown This is one of my favourite traditional ballads. The arrangement is inspired by both Dick Gaughan's and Reel Union's (Delores Keane) versions.

Stan Hugill's book, 'Shanties from the Seven Seas', was the source for this song. It was a slave song in origin and most likely made it's way into the sea shanty tradition as slaves were rented out as crew for America's mercantile marine during the winter months. On board these ships everyone would sing everyone else's songs and so they all became part of the one thing. Shot by Dave Knox and Ja...
What is this about…
Found this on RTÉ lyric fm a number of weeks back. Spent the rest of the day scouring the internet for this. I love it
I love this so much
Stunning version of a stunning version
What an album
Splendid discovery via Radio 3 'Unclassified'. Love the Beefheart 'Shiny Beast' guitar vibe!
What do you use to do the drone sound? Love this version
Fantastic cover.
Anyone know what the bow string instrument is in the background? Sounds great, can't put my finger on it
beautiful enough to enchant me out from hibernation love your tone at the final, and write to me wont you, goodbye thank you so much!
Amazin xx
Big Arthur Russel vibes off your music man. x
This grabs the ear off your head! Brilliant.
Can't believe how many times I've listened to this song today
This is fucking immense. Blown away.
Beautiful 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Je constateert nét dat het met de Ierse folk goed gaat (Lankum, Oxn), en dan zijn er bijvoorbeeld ook nog de 17-jarige Muireann Bradley en deze muzikant. Wat een weelde!
amazing album .. congrats
It makes me question my life, it’s depressing
Heard on bbc6 today . Tune
Good song, and the nod to Jackson C Franks Kimbie.
If I didn't know better, I'd swore this was directed by David Lynch.
Love it, thanks for posting 🎉
god what a great song. Just so much in this, hoping to make Cardiff in January - and I never do gigs but I'd walk a mile over broken glass to hear this guy
RIP Shane, beautiful song & beautiful version John.
I doubt I'll sleep tonight after watching this!
Nick Drake on acoustic guitar?!
And Brian Eno on synthesizer !
Honestly, I feel sort of like I'm looking at something influenced an early REM video. Very interesting. Captivating , to me, anyway. Sorry I don't have another version with the Director's narration attached to the track.
Lovely.
Fantastic
Superb
Just Great...,be nervous proud!
@louise1031 1 second ago You’re the spit of my daughter’s partner whose father is from Enniscorthy. Love yer sound x
Absolutley fucking great
Oh no. there was singing.
The new album is so good!!
Sounds brilliant. The voice and the music. Great work!
Got the album today on green vinyl. Truly outstanding
Superb! Please tour Australia soon.
Brilliant chief 🙌🏻
wow wow. don't have words for this. It's great to hear the pogues paid tribute to in such an original way. and fascinating that this song, though traditional, had never been recorded even by song collectors until Shane put it on wax - especially given the Pogues's traditional numbers tended to be fairly popular songs that had usually been recorded by the Dubliners, the Clancy brothers etc.
I suspect Shane may well have written it. Have never heard a version from before that early Pogues album
@@poorpaddy7803 "'Kitty' is my favourite track on the album," says Shane. "it's a song that I learnt from my mother and I've only ever met one person, who wasn't out of my family or from round our particular little area in Tipperary, who knows it."
Beautiful, immersive, emotionally cutting, cant w8 for the album. Thanks JFF
chords and tuning?
First what a phenomenal song I’ve had quite a lot of relief trying to figure it out Lovely music the entire album has been a gift Anyway tuning I think as of so far is D G Db A A E Then Capo 4th Fret First chord is like a root minor third and major six but due to tuning is a minor 7 triad with that A string on top. Then the change to 8,10,10 on the g,b,e string or from capo 2,4,4 then and open chord you should be able to figure out Hope that helps will get back to you if I have time to figure out more
@@thatguyonbass5616 thanks so much man
dark, discordant, disturbing. "Willie Crotty (Crotty the robber) was a Waterford outlaw who lived in the 18th century, described as a Robin Hood type, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. His knowledge of the Comeragh Mountains made him difficult to catch, although he would eventually be betrayed by his own." according to Folk Radio
Thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated.
keep up the good work..... bring out another album Mister Flynn please :)
Mister Flynn says "oki"
Wow. Taking us to another level with this..
