This place was much nicer back when Mr. Key and his family sold Conch shells, Sponges and other sea shells here. The Buoy is an eye sore and has nothing to do with Key West. If anything they should have put a statue of Mr. Key holding up one of his Big Queen Conchs like he used to do everything the Conch train passed to show the tourist that come from our waters. Also People like me who are born here are called "CONCHS" so a Giant Conch statue would make much more sense. They could even use the Giant one that was made by our high schools welding shop out of metal scraps as art work would be much more appropriate and look a lot better. It's like they are trying to turn here into Orlando Jr. instead of leaving Key West the Cool Laid back place it used to be and the main reason so many people wanted to come here in the first place. New isn't always better.

Imagine doing all that just to come to a country where most of the youth and politicians are trying to make it into Communist Cuba.

A little over 90 Miles from Cuba I've made the crossing to fish Marlin tournaments in Cuba several times and once to pick up people in 1980 during the boat lift BEFORE the government shut it back down.
