Juvenile Congers Eels or 'Straps' as some people call them are a common sight when diving at night along Chesil Beach. But to see 3 'free swimming' larger animals was quite something, the first in the film around 4 feet in length and the other two slighter smaller around 3 feet.

      Sadly, Chesil has been awful for over 6 months now… my last dive here was September 2023. There just seems no let up in the stormy weather. But in the past September and October are usually good for viz.

    Great footage as usual, I have a question, do you have to worry about anglers setting up and casting over you after you are in the water? or are you too far out?

    • @ColinGarrettUnderwater
      @ColinGarrettUnderwater Рік тому

      To be honest, very few anglers fish at Chesil Cove (and I don't blame them) as there are so many snag hazards there. If I dive further up the beach on say, the Landing Craft or Royal Adelaide, I always walk over the beach first to see if any anglers on the 'marks'. If there are, I always ask if they are okay with me going in (as I have always seen this as their patch as it were)... I have never once (as yet) had anyone refuse, most seem genuinely interested in what I manage to film... and I always try to bring back some lead weights, of which there is an endless supply at these sites, as a thank you to them. I see that as a thank you for not casting when out diving there. It's always been a two way thing with mutual respect in my eyes.

      Over the beach from Chesil Beach Centre and slightly to the North. Bit hard to explain via a message but most anglers here know the mark. Hope that’s of some help.

      Different individuals react differently to divers, so cuttlefish will come right up to the camera lens and almost become interested in it, others (as in this case) simply flee.
